View Full Version : What is your favorite song by KISS? (Part 2)
ABlairican Pie 08-21-2003, 07:53 AM Okay, since there are so many cool songs by KISS, I decided to break the choices up into different eras of the band. The first four choices were from the early 70's KISS before they got huge. Those are the songs you probably rocked out on with the Alive! album. I wanted to list other killer KISS songs from that time like:
Firehouse
Hotter Than Hell
Black Diamond
Let Me Go, Rock and Roll
But I wasn't sure how to make more choices than four on the poll.
So here are some songs from the post-Alive! era, from Destroyer and afterward. What are your favorites from when they got huge?
Faith 08-21-2003, 02:43 PM God Gave Rock and Roll to You
dandelion wine 08-23-2003, 01:26 AM I Was Made For Lovin' You
Lady T 08-23-2003, 01:27 AM I used to have a crush on Peter Criss, so I will say Beth:)
dlemond 08-23-2003, 01:30 AM Ahh..KISS in their prime, so subtle, so captivatingly coy:
LOVE GUN
I really love you baby
I love what you've got
Let's get together, we can
Get hot
No more tomorrow, baby
Time is today
Girl, I can make you feel
Okay
No place for hidin' baby
No place to run
You pull the trigger of my
Love gun, (love gun), love gun
Love gun, (love gun), love gun
You can't forget me baby
Don't try to lie
You'll never leave me, mama
So don't try
I'll be a gambler, baby
Lay down the bet
We get together, mama
You'll sweat
No place for hidin' baby
No place to run
You pull the trigger of my
Love gun, (love gun), love gun
Love gun, (love gun), love gun
Love gun, love gun
Love gun, (love gun), love gun
Love gun, (love gun)
Love gun, (love gun), love gun
Love gun, (love gun), love gun
Love gun, (love gun)
Love gun, (love gun)
Love gun, (love gun)
Love gun, (love)
ABlairican Pie 08-23-2003, 10:46 AM Here are the lyrics of a great song from an underrated album, 1993's Revenge. A return to form for KISS after several albums of admitted fluff.
UNHOLY
[Gene Simmons]
I was there through the ages
Chained slaves to their cages
I have seen you eat your own
I'm the cycle of pain
Of a thousand year old reign
I'm suicide and salvation
The omen to nations
That you worship on all fours
I'm the infection and famine
That's knocking at your door
That's why you're feeling so
Unholy
Oh, I was created by man, you know I'm....
Unholy
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
I am the incubus
i lay the egg in you
The worm that burrows
Through your brain
But you are the beast
That calls me by my name
You send your children to war
To serve bastards and whores
So now you know
You created me
On the day that you were born
Unholy
I was created by man, yeah I'm the Lord of the flies, you know I'm
From the left hand of power comes the father of lies
- Unholy!
(Instrumental break)
I lay you down to sleep
Your soul to keep
Better cross your heart before you die
And now you know
Know that you are mine
That's why you're feeling so
Unholy, Unholy, Unholy - Unholy!!
The Obsolete Man 08-23-2003, 06:03 PM '92's Revenge was definitely Kiss' best album since Creatures of the Night in '82. It was Classic Kiss.
But '97's Carnival of Souls was Kiss finally growing up. For once, there was nary a song in sight about partying, women, or sex. However, instead of following that direction, Kiss put the make-up back on, and that was the end.
ABlairican Pie 08-23-2003, 08:17 PM A mature KISS with Carnival of Souls...Hmmm. I wonder what if the makeup hadn't gone back on....I guess you can't have KISS without the horny lyrics. Sometimes I wonder how good of an idea it was to have Ace Frehley and Peter Criss back in the fold, they were the biggest slackers in the world.
I read the latest Guitar World with Tommy Thayer, Ace's replacement in the latest version of KISS, he looks better in Ace's makeup than Ace does.
PunkGrlRK 08-23-2003, 10:13 PM god gave rock and roll to you is where my vote went
ABlairican Pie 08-23-2003, 11:20 PM "God Gave Rock and Roll to You" was originally a song by the 70's rock band Argent who did "Hold Your Head Up". (Their lead singer was Rod Argent who was in the 60's band the Zombies, who did "She's Not There" and "Time of the Season for Loving.")
Horror story: Another band that did a cover of the song was Christian rock band Petra on their 1985 release "Beat the System." Their version actually was actually very lame, the band had turned from being an actually decent arena-rock style band in the vein of REO Speedwagon and Triumph to an over-synthed out shadow of its former self, and their drummer Louie Weaver temporarily replaced by a drum machine. The vocals of this song were done in a faux-opera style, and the album was pretty abysmal. Their lead singer Greg X. Volz left the band soon after that and was replaced by John Schlitt, former vocalist for 70's rock band Head East, who did classic rock staple "Never Been Any Reason," who had become a Christian. Petra had then become a band that sounded a lot more like Journey with the addition of a new vocalist.
But Petra's cover of "God Gave Rock and Roll to You" pales in comparison to KISS' version.
The Obsolete Man 08-24-2003, 01:32 AM That's 'cause Kiss re-wrote the song, leavbing only the chorus.
Never heard the original version.
Also haven't bought Alive IV Yet. Without Ace, I've really no reason to buy it. I have Unplugged, I have every Kiss album, and I have Alive 1 and 2... what more do I need?
The Obsolete Man 08-24-2003, 01:36 AM And another thing... I wouldn't mind the fact that Ace was replaced if Kiss hadn't put a scab in Ace's make-up.
No one likes Vinnie Vincent... why not give the Roadie the Ankh make-up?
If only Ace hadn't sold the rights to his make-up to Kiss between '96 and '01...
anaïsFANxx 08-26-2003, 10:57 PM oh my gosh, my mom LOVED kiss when she was a kid. her room was like a museum, posters on her wall, she had the kiss jacket, i mean everything imaginable! i've seen pictures of her dressed up as Peter Criss..it's pretty cool.. and i like KISS too, and out of those i like shout it out loud!
i like when they "sang" it in "kiss meets the phantom of the park" - way cool movie, lol
