View Full Version : Are there any actors or actresses that you liked until the war?
ap3ab 08-15-2003, 10:03 PM Are there any actors or actresses that you did or didn't like until after they spoke their thoughts on the war with Iraq? After I read that Rick Schroder thought George Bush was a fantastic guy I never wanted to watch one of his films again. I thought he was a cool guy before but after hearing that he supported Bush I thought he was a complete jerk.

Why? Don't stop liking someone just because you disagree with their stances. Kelsey Grammer is a Republican, but I still love Cheers and Fraiser - and I think Kelsey's a pretty cool guy.
Seriously, if you continue this behavior, you'll be no better than the folks who have been hassling The Dixie Chicks for their stances.

So, you're saying that it's okay to not like someone for their anti-war stances, but it's not okay to not like someone for their pro-war stances?

I don't believe that's what I'm saying at all, actually.
Crimson and Clover 08-16-2003, 02:07 AM nope like i said on the music boad im not gonna start liking or disliking someone cause of there political views.
Lady T 08-16-2003, 02:29 AM I personally was againest the war. But if I admire an actor, I admire them for their talent and not for their political point of view:) patriot:
Brad Russ 08-16-2003, 03:10 AM My opinions haven't changed either. People like Rob Reiner, the Dixie Chicks, and Susan Sarandon, among others, have some views that are totally opposite to mine, but that doesn't mean I'm going to stop watching them, or dislike them. I think most of these people's reasons for their beliefs are pure, and because of that I refuse to slander them, and put them down. There are also many people on this board that I adamantely disagree with, but I'm not going to dislike them simply because of that. I think that's just plain silly. If everyone agreed on every issue, this world would sure be a boring place to live.
Brian Damage 08-16-2003, 01:09 PM I could give a damn about an actor's political view....Just shut up and make movies!
BrandonS 08-16-2003, 01:32 PM If an actor is particularly vocal for a point of view I strongly disagree with, I might feel a little funny watching him after that, depending on exactly how he conducts himself in stating his views. If he does it in a dignified way, I'm probably alright with it, but if he is really insulting to what I believe in or people who agree with me, then I might not want to see him again.
Brian 08-16-2003, 01:58 PM I don't care about actors/actresses political views. If they make good movies I'll watch them.
LucyCompanyPhan 08-16-2003, 05:49 PM In my opinion any one who would refuse to watch a movie of an actor because of the political views is shallow. To me, politics is politics. Hollywood is Hollywood. Its two different things. I mean, there are 100s of people with 100s of views out there, and some of them are celebrities and some are just very day people, but to not support them just because of one opinion is very shallow. If you judge someone of their political views, than you are no better than anyone else.

True for some. But how about actors who go out of their way to make political statements, ie. Martin Sheen, Susan Sarandon, etc. And hold rallies and press conferences for such statements. They're kind of making them the same thing, aren't they? :thought:
dandelion wine 08-17-2003, 01:56 AM No, I can't say it'd make me stop liking them.

But think of it this way, there are just normal everyday people doing that. I mean, some small town baker probably held a rally for politics. Sure, they are celebrities and sure they do make politicial statements trying to influence people because of their status, but there are just normal everyday people doing that as well. I bet like if someone like you or me were famous and had the chance, would take it to express opinions.
The only thing annoys me is that i was watching the oscars and someone wouldn't shutup about it. But I just simply walked away. I can't even remember if they were shouting something pro war or against war, but it was just annoying cos i just wanted to watch the oscars, but no big thing.
Janice 08-17-2003, 02:23 PM There are certain celebrities that I feel differently about as a result of their opinions on the war, but I won't boycott their work. Everyone's entitled to their opinion.
Fair or not, it's the way I feel.
Ewan's My Man 08-17-2003, 06:12 PM My opinions aren't gonna change about actors and actresses b/c of their POLITICAL VIEWS. BUT, I have a LOT less respect for the Dixie Chicks. The fact that they said that thing about being from Texas, that kinda annoyed me, but I got over it. But after they did the nude pic on the front of Entertainment Weekly, that's what pushed me over the top. I don't mind their political views, I mean, I LOVE Madonna, even tho I disagree with her stance on the war. But the fact that they did that whole naked thing with all that stuff written on them...that just made me lose respect for them. They can have their views, and I respect everyone's views on the war, it's when people CONSTANTLY beat you over the head with their opinions that annoys me. Now, I still listen to the Dixie Chicks...but I have lost respect for them. And the fact that Natalie has a problem with Toby Keith doesn't help either ;)
