View Full Version : Revenge of the 80's?
Devastation26 01-22-2001, 09:41 PM I just saw this ad on N@N for something airing all March long called "Revenge of the 80's" I got a feeling we're going to start seeing a lot of shows we've been wanting to see. I already know they'll beshowing FOL, I caught that. What else I wonder?

Andy: You're sexy lingerie. That's what i named you.
(skip a few lines)
Jo: Jo: I will not be known as SExy Lingerie.
George: I don't know, something about that appeals to me.
Jo hits George

Pavan 01-22-2001, 09:46 PM What shows did you see in this ad? Facts of Life and Three's Company no doubt will air...
Devastation26 01-22-2001, 10:00 PM FOL was all I saw for sure, but I know there was others. I'd say this change will boot off permenantely all pre-80's shows. This will usher in my "New Era of Classic Shows".
Here's a list of all I think will be around
Facts of Life (duh)
Three's Company
Head of the Class
Perfect Strangers
(something else I forgot the name of)
If they hadn't have sent it to TNN, The Wonder Years would be on this list.
Anything else?
------------------
I need a new signature
Abbey22 01-22-2001, 10:04 PM Not sure but I think I saw Different Strokes lised in the commercial... I wasn't actually looking at the television when the commercial was playing but did see the very end. That was when I thought I saw Different Strkes listed.
Abbey
Pavan 01-22-2001, 10:15 PM What about Webster and Silver Spoons? Someone said those too!
Pavan 01-22-2001, 10:32 PM Someone said Alf too!
Pippa McKenna 01-22-2001, 10:58 PM I can't believe we might get to see the FOL pilot on Diff'rent Strokes!!!!
------------------
Tootie:It can't be that mu-Lord send us back to slavery.
Natalie:What's the 1st thing I said when I got out of the Hot Tub?
Tootie:Whoa,it's freezing in here.
Jo:You're Japanese how could you do this to a Kawasaki?
Miko:Father will pay for the damage. After he kills me.
Jo:He'll have to take a number.
The Obsolete Man 01-22-2001, 11:03 PM If memory serves me, they're showing ALF, FOL, Diff'rent Strokes, Silver Spoons, Square Pegs, and 227.
ALF!!!!
ALF on Nick at Nite! It's a dream come true!!!!! If only it were on there permanently!
And Diff'rent Strokes... they sure better show the FOL Pilot and the Aronld and the Pedophile episodes....
cvgrule 01-22-2001, 11:05 PM Yes, I also saw this ad and some of the shows I remember seeing were The Facts of Life, Alf, 227, Silver Spoons, Different Strokes, plus others I can't remember. The thing is, they really didn't tell us what they meant by it. Like did they mean they are going to start showing these shows or are they releasing them on video or something? The weirdest thing of it all was that they showed a record and a cassette in the commercial making it seem that it was for a music compilation but I think they were just mocking those kinds of commercials. Oh well, we'll just wait and see in March! -Mike.
The Obsolete Man 01-22-2001, 11:10 PM N@N has always done weird commercials like that... they had a Welcome Back, Kotter commercial that was much the same back in 95/96.
I'm thinking it's either gonna be a week or month devoted to these shows, because N@N doesn't release videos, and none of these shows are scheduled to be added to N@N's permanent schedule.
And speaking of the schedule, why isn't Family Ties in this? That's their next new show... why not feature it in this Revenge of the 80s thing?
BIGTootiefan 01-22-2001, 11:12 PM you guys, I saw that commercial, and I think it's a cd soundtrack! cause it looked like it had a cd case.
------------------
Tootie: We are in Troubllle!
Nat: Who wants to be a skinny pencil? I'd rather be a happy magic marker!
factsofnatalie 01-22-2001, 11:13 PM sorry kinda off topic but Pippa McKenna, where is this quote from?
Natalie:What's the 1st thing I said when I got out of the Hot Tub?
Tootie:Whoa,it's freezing in here.
The Obsolete Man 01-22-2001, 11:14 PM ...you guys take things waaaaaaaaaaay too literally.
Oh, and factsoflifenatalie, that quote was from part 2 of the 9th season opener... the one where Jo is housesitting for Richard Moll and destroys his house.
[This message has been edited by The Obsolete Man (edited 01-22-2001).]
If you watched it closely, they specifically say it is for 6 nights only and doesn't necessarily mean they will add these shows to their lineup... but let's face it - that week is going to generate a huge amount of ratings for them! hopefully they will move some of their shows from the 60's and 70's to to TNN or TV Land and show the 80's sitcoms on Nick at Nite..

Devastation26 01-22-2001, 11:32 PM Here's the shows they're showing.
Facts of Life.
Diff'rent Strokes
Silver Spoons
Alf
Square Pegs
227
I REALLY hope they show the Diff'rent Strokes Ep. that is the Pilot for FOL. That would be a big treat for FOL fans

JoPol_wannabe 01-23-2001, 12:21 AM I can't wait for this in March. I hope Nick at Nite does more 80's shows, that's my most favorite era for tv shows. But I just have one question why did they take off The Wonder Years that's an 80's show? And if that's where there heading to then they should of took off Gilligan's Island or something like that, I just can't stand that show.
Michele35 01-23-2001, 12:27 AM I think N@N is seeing that there is a huge demand for 80's sitcoms. I agree with TJ that they should get big ratings for those six days.
I wonder if all of our e-mails regarding TFOL helped encourage them to show more 80s sitcoms?? Hmmmm, probably not but just a thought http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/wink.gif
Nicole's Boy 01-23-2001, 12:57 AM This is so cool! I mean, just last month we were all discussing the shows we feel Nick At Nite should add to their lineup, and most of the ones I mentioned are part of this "Revenge of the '80s" deal. "Silver Spoons," "Different Strokes," and "ALF"!!! YIPEE! I'm sure they'll add some of the shows to their lineup . . . eventually.
Rubidium 01-23-2001, 01:23 AM I kinda wish that Nickelodeon would get rid of their kids programing, but that is one of their major sources of money, so I don't see them getting rid of it. It would be nice, however, if Nick-at-Nite could at least keep the 8:30 PM timeslot. I may be the only one, but I find it annoying when the time slot goes back and forth between the two networks.
Anyway, due to the recent success of FOL, I think that the "Revenge of the 80's" will be one of the biggest ratings grabbers of the year. If that is the case, I wouldn't be at all surprised if N@N adds some of these shows to their schedule. Unfortunately, there are too many good TV shows to fit into the schedule. There are three possibilities that I can think of to fix this:
1) N@N stops repeating the episodes in the early morning that were shown during the night, and show FOL and TC once. This would mean they would show each show once and only once per night. Unfortunately, that would be inconvenient for fans of shows that are only shown at early hours (or late hours, depending how you look at it).
2) N@N adjusts their schedule so the shows are shown every other night. In other words a set of show will be shown Sun, Tue, and Thur while another set will be shown Mon, Wed, and Fri. Then Saturday could be used for theme nights. Unfortunately, that wouldn't work well without adjusting Nicks friday night schedule, which I don't like either. Kids that would be watching these shows shouldn't be up til 10 PM anyway.
3) TVLAND will show only hour long shows (dramas, westerns, medical, cop, etc.) and the sitcoms on TVLAND and the current sitcoms on N@N (except for FOL and TC) would be moved to a new network that would exclusively show sitcoms. Then N@N could be filled with new shows, some of which were mentioned above. This would increase the variety of N@N while keeping the other shows around for us to watch.
Personally, I like the third idea. Actually, that is somewhat similar to what they are doing with Wonder Years, WKRP, Taxi, and Newhart by moving them to TNN. That could mean that TNN would start picking up N@N's old shows.
No matter what they do, I would like to see new shows on N@N while still being able to see the shows that they currently have. Maybe I'm just greedy http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
bigtime silver spoons fan 01-23-2001, 04:59 AM Thanks for all the info. I can't wait until March to see some of the shows that haven't been on in quite some time. I will be ready to watch some Silver Spoons of course. I hope they show some old and some new. By the way I know N@N is Nick at Nite and I know what TV land is, but what is TNN. I know TNN as The Nashville Network. Sorry, just need informed.
TNN used to call themselves The Nashville Network when they had country programming. As they switched focus, they now call themselves The National Network. They are owned by Viacom which owns Nick at Nite and TV Land also. That's why you saw WKRP in Cincinnati, Newhart, The Wonder Years, and Taxi (all former Nick at Nite shows) move to TNN. I think a similar thing could happen if Nick at Nite decides to add Silver Spoons or Diff'rent Strokes..
bigtime silver spoons fan, where are your posts on the Silver Spoons board? I've never seen you post there before..but I don't know deny that you are a big fan..
[This message has been edited by TJ (edited 01-23-2001).]
Pavan 01-23-2001, 12:04 PM Ok out of the 6 shows on Revenge of the '80s Week...I think Silver Spoons and Diff'rent Strokes will stay on Nick at Nite after that week, because they dropped Wonder Years and Taxi so they can fit 2 more, maybe even 3.
I think TV Land will show ALF, if Odyssey still has it after they will probably show half/half each.
TNN would show 227 and Square Pegs, Wonder Years will be leaving TNN before September anyway, Newhart might be leaving TNN soon since the Viacom contract is expected to be up this April for Newhart...
N@N After Revenge of the 80s, this would be VERY nice:
8:30PM Silver Spoons
9PM Diff'rent Strokes
9:30PM Facts of Life
10PM Three's Company
10:30PM Brady Bunch (If I know N@N, I think they will continute to show TC for an hour, which is great!)
11PM All in the Family
11:30PM Jeffersons
Pavan 01-23-2001, 12:30 PM Ok I just realized Square Pegs only had 20 episodes! So maybe TVLand will keep it in it's library dipping, and ALF will be on TNN...lol I can't wait what happens, this is exciting!
lesliem14 01-23-2001, 01:54 PM I'm excited about ALF because that is the one show I did watch in its orginal run, but I really can't remember any of the episodes. On another note, I don't want to see this special week completely rearrange N@N programming which I doubt will happen. I think it would be better for TVLand or TNN to pick up these shows. As much as people on this board dislike Gilligan's Island it only started on N@N last summer and has its fan base too. It will be a good week of tv viewing though!!
iluvfacts14 01-23-2001, 05:09 PM Wahooo! I can;t wait 'till March! If they show the pilot we get to see Blair smoke! LOL I love N@N! http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
BTW, now all I have in my head is the theme songs from the shows shown on the promo.....
LOL
It take's Diff'rent Strokes...

(Tootie starts rambling)
Natalie (thinking): I am going to nail her mouth to the floor. I can picture it now there'd be a spike through her tongue, but the lips would still be moving. She'd just keep whining on and on about how she'd never do that to me because she's my best friend. And if it made me feel guilty about nailing her mouth to the floor than she's glad I did it and......
(stops and realizes everyone's looking at her)
KerriBerri687 01-23-2001, 05:32 PM i wonder if nick at nite will show the so called "controversial" eps of the FOL...i hope so!!!! http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif
I thought it was just a CD with all those show's theme songs on it. Guess I'm wrong. If they really are coming on Nick-at-Nite, I can't wait.
sambino5 01-23-2001, 08:37 PM I thought it was a cd. I asked my mom to buy it for me when it came out. But I'm glad it'as not. They are going to show ALF(yay)and 227(yay). I watched them two shows growing up.
Abbey22 01-23-2001, 08:57 PM Yeah I originally thought it was a cd as well but looking at the commercial I realized that it looked more like a record and a tape cassette. I think the commercial was just trying to use images that make you think "1980's".
Abbey
ThomasE 01-24-2001, 01:54 AM Well I saw the commercial last night too and thought that it was a CD with the different shows. I was going to post a message about it. But can someone confirm that this is true? Time really does fly I remember in the early 90's the 80's seemed so recent but now that we're in a new millenium the 80's seem to have a liitle age.
Abbey22 01-24-2001, 03:29 AM Well I think the thing that tells that it will be actual episodes of these shows running is the fact that is said "For six nights only!" or something like that. If it hadn't said that, I would be completely thinking that it was a cd, not episodes of the show airing.
Devastation26 01-24-2001, 03:32 AM 6 nights, 6 shows. Do the math!
A show a night.

it's been way too long since I last saw DS that I'd let work mess that up.
I'm already ticked at some of the FOL episodes I missed thanks to work. LOL

2. Arnold... He CRACKS me up!! he is SOOOO cute and hilarious!! i love arnold when he's on Facts of Life!

JohnMcMillin 01-25-2001, 01:33 PM it's been years, but I'll try to remember what I can.
227 ran from 1985-1990, actually would come on after FOL on Saturday nights from 85-88. Marla Gibbs from the Jeffersons was the star of it. Her, her husband and daughter (played by Regina King, whose done some decent work as an adult) lived in a housing complex as well as Jackee (some people may also remember her as the mom on Sister Sister) and a few other colorful characters. It was a pretty good show from what I remember. I know Gary Coleman (like 4 years after Diff'rent Strokes went off, during the final season of 227) and Luther Vandross were just 2 of the more famous guest-stars of the shows.
perezd 01-25-2001, 01:33 PM it's a cd. i just saw the commercial yesterday. i have all those theme songs i downloaded from napster and burned them. so to clear it up, it's cd.

...mmm-hmm...
Anyway, it'll be way cool to see ALF again. I haven;t seen ALF since I was a young'un.
And I'll finally get to see what all the hoopla was about Diff'rent Strokes. I'm still holding out hope that they'll show the pedophile episode, though.
And what was Silver Spoons about? They woulda been better off showing Small Wonder.
TVaddict 01-25-2001, 04:30 PM Ok, Small Wonder was good, but Silver Spoons was the best! (Ok, not the best, you all know what really is) but it had Ricky Schroeder and he lived with his dad and his assistant (at first) Kate. Actually, Kate didn't live there at first, but like all those shows they eventually got together. Anyway, they were really rich and they had this huge house and they had a train that went through their living room that they could ride on (which made me SOOOO jealous) and Jason Bateman played one of Ricky's friends, and so did Alfonso Ribiero (Carlton from Fresh Prince) but anyway, you should definitely check this show out. I LOVED it. It was on a local station like 3 summers ago and I wouldn't leave the house until it was over. I'm just hoping that when they do this thing it's not the first week of March, which I bet it will be, because that's when I'm going on spring break and I'd miss it! Maybe they'll repeat it like the FOL marathon, I'll keep my fingers crossed.
Cokies 01-25-2001, 04:55 PM Let's get this all cleared up, IT IS NOT A CD. If you look a little closer, it is actually a record sleeve. Get it, it's supposed to be a mock up of those 'Modern Rock New Wave' commercials.

FOL85NatandMrsGRock 01-25-2001, 05:26 PM thank you cokies!!! hehe.. i was JUST about to say that and then i read your message... i think that it is kinda dumb how they did that commercial cuz they made it loko like a record but i get how they are mimicing the 80's cuz that was very popular in teh 80's!! hehe... i hear they are playing early season episodes of all the shows... but i don't know... i keep hearing all of these thigns about this revenge of the 80's and i don't know how ANY of them know this cuz nick at nite has only aired the commercials... they haven't aired ANYTHING else!! hehe http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif

coily2 01-25-2001, 05:54 PM I'm looking forward to this. I haven't seen 227 or Silver Spoons since their original runs. And Alf, what can I say... I think that Alf was a truly funny show.
Devastation26 01-25-2001, 07:39 PM IT IS NOT A CD!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For 6 Days in March, N@N will show 6 different Shows from the 80's.
The 6 shows are:
1)Facts of Life
2)Diff'rent Strokes
3)Square Pegs
4)Alf
5)Silver Spoons
6)227
I am almost positive this means a show a night. And as for Napster, I downloaded them themes too. But who ever heard of releasing a CD, or record, or cassette, that contains nothing except 6 show themes from the 80's. And did they give a price, no! or a number, no! IT IS NOT A CD!!!!!!!!!

The Obsolete Man 01-25-2001, 07:53 PM Heh... thanks for the silver spoons info...
Anyway, I don't see where the whole "is it a cd/album" question thing came form in the first place.
Sure, Nick at Nite has released CDs befor (on Rhino records), but they've never included themes. I thought it was obvious that the commercial was just a parody of those best of the 80s hits commercials Nick at Nite always seems to air. Of course, i was watching when they did the Welcome Back Kotter record commercial, so I remember all this stuff.
It just seemed odd to me that there would be such a great amount of people who would thing N@N would release a cd like this instead of airing the shows... especially after that "6 nights" comment in the commercial.
Devastation26 01-25-2001, 09:00 PM Like I said earlier, this IS NOT a CD. How did this get started anyway?

I'm gonna conserve tapes and just tape Diff'rent Strokes and the FOL episodes I don't already have. I hate Alf, And as for the other three, I'll watch them, but I won't be taping them. N@n has the rights if they want to show them again.
