WASHINGTON, Aug. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- The USO is sending John Ratzenberger --
Cliff Clavin on the long-running comedy series "Cheers" -- to visit service
members at Fort Irwin Army Base, Calif., Aug. 10. This is Ratzenberger's
first USO tour and the seventh in the USO's revived stateside tour program.
The Army's second largest training post, Fort Irwin is home to 4,800
active duty military personnel. Ratzenberger will dine with troops, sign
autographs and tour the base.
Born in Bridgeport, Conn., Ratzenberger began his career during his ten
years in England as co-founder of the London-based improvisational group Sal's
Meat Market. He acted in more than 30 films, including "Superman," "Gandhi,"
"A Bridge Too Far," "Yanks" and "The Empire Strikes Back."
He returned to America in 1981 and landed the role he is best known for --
Cliff, the mailman -- on the sitcom "Cheers." His role on the popular series
earned him two Emmy nominations.
Ratzenberger is the only actor to have worked on every Pixar Animation
feature, starting with "Toy Story" and most recently the hit film "Finding
Nemo." He is producing a television series based on the life of an undercover
F.B.I. agent, as well as hosting and producing a series for the Discovery
Network's Travel Channel entitled "Made in America." The series, set for
January 2004, highlights quality products and the people who make them in the
United States. He also co-stars this season on ABC's hit comedy "8 Simple
Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter."
Ratzenberger sits on the board of the Diabetes Research Institute and
works closely with ChildrenWithDiabetes.com.

For 62 years, the USO (United Service Organizations) has brought a touch
of home to America's military personnel. The USO is a congressionally
chartered, nonprofit organization and is not a government agency. The USO is
