When county agent KIMball first showed up he wasn't goofily oblivious as he later was. He was straightlaced and normal. By the time Kimball became permanently looney they had a flashback of him from his first appearance (again-when he was normal). In the non-flashback film in that same later ep the Douglases never say to KImball "Funny Mr. Kmball when we met you you seemed so normal". They should have!
I don't remember a flashback scene, but I do remember when Kimball first appeared, and it's true he wasn't so nutty. Same thing with Lisa, actually. Maybe at first no one knew how preposterous the show was really going to be, but they recognized quickly the comedy comes from wacky exaggerations along with a peculiar form of satire. So-- exaggerate all the personalities to where no one resembles normalcy; including Sam Drucker, who was a much straighter character in the contemporary show, Petticoat Junction.

TDR, I am 100% sure in a later GA ep they flashbacked to Kimball's first appearance on the show. Could someone whose a super big Green Acres fan step in here and state what ep the Kimball flashback appeared in? It's been years since I last saw GA and I don't recall much about the surrounding story in the flashback ep other than no one in the ep telling Kimball how he used to be so bloody normal. It would have been better if they had seemingly totally forgotten their first meeting of him.
