View Full Version : Songs selected for the Tribute CD
Prince 08-12-2003, 01:57 PM I think it would be interesting if everyone that contributed a song to the Tribute CD would share what song they chose and why the song reminds them of Freddie. I would love to hear everyone's story. I will post mine tonight. Have to go back to work. C'mon everyone..don't be shy!!!
Luckymama58 08-12-2003, 02:11 PM Well I picked "Sweet Nightmare" because from the first time Mariposa shared that poem with me, I knew she had struck a nerve. I have always felt that the poem described my "relationship" with Freddie. The dreams I have had of him haunt me like a nightmare, but a sweet one because it is of him. The longing that these dreams create in my heart hurts sometimes, but I would never want them to stop. That is what inspired me to make a feeble attempt to write music for her wonderful words. And that is where the song came from.
kriziazafiro 08-12-2003, 02:28 PM Freddie felt alone and he was searching for someone that would love him unconditionaly.
This song speaks of those feelings.
Cheryl Harrell 08-12-2003, 03:39 PM I picked EVERYBODY IS A STAR by Sly & The Family Stone cuz it was in the CAN YOU LEAR THE LAUGHTER movie & reminds me of Freddie & the movie everytime I hear it anymore. After picking it tho when it was too late to change my selection, that's when I remembered 2 songs that reminded me of Freddie EVERYBODY PLAYS THE FOOL by the Main Ingredient & FREDDJES DEAD by Curtis Mayfield. Even tho FREDDJES DEAD is about a drug abuser & Freddie isn't a tough guy like the one in the song & the line "If ya wanna lead a junkies life remember Freddies dead" wouldn't be to favorable towards him, it still reminds me of him cuz there is a line in the beginning of the song talking about hwo his wife or woman was his trouble & that reminds me fo our Freddie plus the name Freddie in the song...
MariposaLKB 08-12-2003, 04:15 PM I chose the song "Everywhere" by Michelle Branch because--after Luckymama introduced me to it by giving me the link to Ms. Branch's official website--I was struck by how eloquently it spoke of constantly feeling the presence of someone she loved. She would sense him all the time, but mostly in dreams.
In the more than 2 years since I rediscovered Freddie, this is how he has been in my life. Everyone and everything and every place reminds me of something about him. I have had dreams of him while sleeping, but also a sort of "waking dream" on several occasions.
Most powerful for me in relation to Freddie, though, is the last line: "You're in everyone one I see, so tell me...do you see me?" I have always been sure--but especially right now--that he is looking down on us all with a smile!
hue_mee 08-12-2003, 05:41 PM The song I Choose was, " I woke up in love this morning" by the Parttridge Family. It reminds me how I always dream about Freddie and dread when the alarm goes off. Wishing I could keep on dreaming
hue_mee 08-12-2003, 07:48 PM Here are the lyrics to "I woke up in Love this Morning"
The Partridge Family
I Woke Up In Love This Morning
Written by - Irwin Levine & L. Russell Brown
From - Sound Magazine
Last night, I turned out the light, lay down and thought about you
I thought about the way that it could be
Two o'clock, wonderin' what I'm doin' here alone without you
So I close my eyes and dream you here to me and...
Chorus:
I woke up in love this morning
I woke up in love this morning
Went to sleep with you on my mind
I woke up in love this morning
I woke up in love this morning
Went to sleep with you on my mind
Hello, girl, yes it's five o'clock I know but you just listen
There's something that I've got to let you know
This is you, this pillow that I'm huggin' and I'm kissin'
And one more thing before I let you go...
Chorus
Do dreams come true, well if they do, I'll have you
Not just for a night, but for my whole life through
Chorus (Repeat to fade)
I chose I made it through the rain by Barry Manilow because i thought That Freddie really wanted to get help for his depression and drug problem, and that he tried and i believe that had things turned out differently he could definately relate to the words of that song.
he made it through the rain.
I believe he did relate to the words
when Friends are hard to find, and life seems so unkind...
It just screamed freddie to me maybe more so in the what maight have been sense but it does just the same.
I hope you like it
Prince 08-12-2003, 09:36 PM I chose two songs...first one was "I'm Moving On" by Rascal Flatts...the lyrics just reminded me of the inner struggle Freddie must have felt at times...and he did move on..to a better place.
The second tune "When I See You Smile" by Bad English just says how I feel when I see him smile. He had a great smile framed by wonderful deep dimples..OMG!.
I hope you liked them. Of course there are so many to pick from that's it's hard to narrow it down.
Danisel331 08-12-2003, 10:49 PM Why did I pick those songs? Hmmmmm.......
Well first off I want to thank all you for your contributions to the CD. It wouldn't have happened if you had not taking the time to select just the right songs.
Ok, The Boy From New York City came from listening to it over and over on the oldies radio station and reading how all of you admire Freddie. My other song, I'll Be Around, well let's just say I know he would have liked because its by The Spinners.;)
Prince 08-13-2003, 10:53 PM Thank you for all your replies. They are all so heartfelt. Please....let's hear from everyone else!!!!!!!
catcopy18 08-14-2003, 04:55 PM The song I chose "Love Me When I'm Gone" by Three Doors down hit me really hard when I heard it. It reminded me of what Freddie may have felt during his troubled marriage and the hurt and depression he may have felt inside. Some of the lyrics are:
There's a mellow world inside of me that you may never see -
There are secrets in my life that I can't hide -
But somewhere in this darknes there's a light that I can't find -
Well maybe it's too far away or maybe I'm just blind.
Roamin thru this darkness I'm alive but I'm alone -
Part of me is fighting this but part of me is gone -
So hold me when I'm here -
Love me when I'm gone, hold me when I'm scared -
Everything I am and everything you need wants to be the one you wanted me to be -
I'll never let you down, even if I could, I'd give up everything
if only for your good -
So hold me when I'm here, love me when I'm gone, hold me
when I'm scared, you won't always be there -
So love me when I'm gone.
oooohhh chilling!!
Just like Freddie wanted to be remembered.
Luckymama58 08-14-2003, 07:52 PM Catcopy. I like that song too and I immediately thought of Freddie the first time I heard it on the radio. I would have loved the chance to have held him when he was here and I sure do love him even tho he is gone!
Prince 08-14-2003, 09:44 PM Boy that song does hit home huh? I wish we could have all been there for him when he needed friends. Everyone really put some thought into thier selection. Shows how much we all care.
sfditusa 08-15-2003, 01:39 AM I chose Tie a Yellow Ribbon by Tony Orlando because whenever I heard that song on the radio in the 70's I thought of Freddie. I knew Freddie was good friends with Tony Orlando, and that they had a special friendship.
I was envious of that friendship in the 70's, because every fiber of my being wanted to meet Freddie. And hearing that song led me to feel closer to our Freddie.
Although I hadn't heard that song since the 70's and wasn't sure if I would still feel the same way upon hearing it now, it was the first song that came to my mind when I was asked to come up with a song that reminds me of Freddie.
When I got the CD in the mail, I patiently waited until Tie A Yellow Ribbon came up, thinking it would be most polite to listen to all the other selections in order, and then mine. I finally admitted to myself that I couldn't take it, and after a few songs forwarded it to my selection. I am here to tell you that I had goosebumps, and a lump in my throat hearing that song. My reaction to hearing Tie a Yellow Ribbon after all these years was moving. And the song definitely reminds me of Freddie and my undying love for him.
And hearing one of the last lines in the song, about seeing a hundred yellow ribbons 'round that ole oak tree brought tears to my eyes. Not only because there was a happy ending for the soldier that was coming home to his gf/wife, for me, it meant that Freddie was still deeply entrenched in my heart and that I would have gladly put those ribbons *and more* on any and every tree, to just have our Freddie back. Sigh
I thougth the CD idea was very creative and helped make our connection through our groups tangible, being able to hold the CD in my hands, and to hear everyones clever, and wonderful choices.
Sandra
what a moving tribute Sandra!
Thank you for those beautiful, heartstirring words
Pitooey 10-24-2003, 12:09 PM I chose Never to far away by Mariah Carey because I remember Freddie when he glittered like a star.
After he left us it was painful... So Nobody can take his place..........
When I see this photo it says it all...........
He's never to far away.
Prince 10-24-2003, 12:36 PM JennyLee,
I love that pic of Freddie, and you're right...it does say it all. I'm so pleased you liked the CD...and when I hear him singing on the first track..it always makes me smile. He just does it for me girlfriend. I am so thankful to have reconnected with our Mr. Prinze once again. He still brings so much happiness and smiles doesn't he???
Cheryl Harrell 10-24-2003, 03:36 PM I just wish other knew how much happiness he has rbought me & all of you. So tired of people thinking I'm weird cuz I like a dead who commited suicide...
