Okay, instead of constantly demanding other people to please post more of their fan fic, I thought I would try something... please,don't shoot(that is a REQUEST and not the title):D

Nate and CD stepped off the elevator on CD's floor. They were carrying take-out and a couple of movies they had rented. "So the other guy says, that's okay, I had to get up to answer the phone anyway." Nate grinned. "Nate, that is your worst joke ever",CD groaned. Actually,she liked his jokes, but would never admit it. They turned the corner to find a young girl sleeping in front of CD's door. "Well, well, what have we here?"Nate asked.CD looked at him, and then shook the girl's shoulder. "Hey, Sleeping Beauty, wake up." The girl woke up.looking a bit scared and confused. She stood up quickly. Are you Candace?" she asked. "Yeah, I am,who are you?" CD said. Nate interrupted. "Why don't we go inside" he suggested. CD unlocked the door,and the three went inside. Nate went into the kitchen to put the food down, and CD took the girl into the living room. "Now, what was your name?" CD asked. This was too weird. Teenage girls didn't camp out on her doorstep everyday,especially ones she didn't know. "My name is Kelly," the girl started.She was looking very nervous now. Nate came in the room. "What did I miss?" he asked, sitting on the arm of a chair. "Not much" CD answered. She looked at Kelly. "Can we get to the point here?" How do you know me?" Kelly looked at her. "My step-dad was Larry James", she said. CD got quiet. She looked at Nate, and said"Can I see you for a moment?" Nate followed CD to the entryway."Look, I need to deal with this. I will explain it to you later, but can I just call you later?" Nate looked at her. "Are you okay?" he asked. "Yeah, but I need to do this alone right now. I will call you later." Nate gave her a quick kiss. "Alright, he said, but if you need me, call."

Well, you will see.....btw, I made up the name for this character because I didn't remember if this person's name was ever mentioned on the show. If it was, feel free to correct me. Here goes:

Her father, who she NEVER gave a second thought to, was dead? How in the world did he even know anything about her or where she lived? Yet, he must have,because how else would this kid know? Kelly continued. "A few months after the accident, I was going through some of my mom's stuff. I came across a letter that Larry had gotten from your mom,I guess. It had your name and address." Kelly walked over to CD. "I decided I wanted to meet you. I always wanted a sister, and even though you aren't a real sister, I was curious. I also thought maybe you didn't know about your dad." Okay,so this wasn't the whole truth, but maybe Candace would believe her. She just needed a place to stay for a few days......

And I don't think his name ever had been mentioned. Her mom's name is Polly Dankow though. So I guessed the Dankow is her maiden name and maybe was her dad's name? But could also be her mom's maiden name if she went back to that after her dad left them when she was 10. :) So please write more! Great story so far!!!!!!

Okay, that's what I figured. That was a great ep with her mom, but I don't think they have ever really dealt with the dad part, so I started playing around with it.... thanks for the info

CD just looked at her. She did not completely believe what Kelly was saying, and thought she looked scared about something. "Where do you live?" she asked, "Does someone know where you are?" It was getting late, and CD was beginning to wonder if she was going to have to drive this kid someplace. Kelly hesitated, then said easily, "Oh, I live in San Ramon. I live with my aunt now. She knows I came, just said I should call if I couldn't find you, and she would come get me." CD was dumbfounded. Who on earth would let a young girl roam the streets of San Francisco looking for a stranger? "Why don't you go and call her in the other room?" CD suggested. "You can tell her you will stay here for the night, and tomorrow we will play by ear." Kelly left to make her call, and CD picked up her cell and dialed Nate. "I need you to do me a favor," she said when he answered. She talked to him for a few minutes about what she wanted, and then hung up. She walked into the living room, where Kelly was sitting on the couch. Kelly stood quickly and handed CD the phone. "I called my aunt and she said to thank you for letting me stay." CD looked at her. "You look tired, would you like to get some sleep?" Kelly said yes and picked up her backpack. 'The bathroom is down the hall on your left," CD said. Kelly left the room and CD got sheets for the sleeper sofa. Kelly came back out just as CD was finishing the bed. "All set?" CD asked. Kelly nodded. "Thanks for letting me stay, Candace." CD smiled. "CD," she said. Kelly looked at her."What?" "I go by CD now,not Candace." "Oh, that's cool." CD started for her bedroom,and told Kelly if she needed anything to just come knock. Once in her room, she changed for bed and waited for Nate to call. She didn't have to wait long. "Hey," Nate said. I got the info you wanted. Looks like your dad last lived in Fresno, and did die in a car wreck with his wife. There was some mention of the woman having a young daughter. Social Services put the girl into the custody of her maternal aunt, a Dianne Andrews in Bakersfield. That's all the info I could get for tonight from Social Services." "Nate, she's lying to me for some reason. She told me she lives in San Ramon, and that her aunt knows she's hereand that all is well. What do I do now?" "Well, I guess you are going to have to wait until she trusts you to tell you the truth," Nate said. "She probably wants to make sure that you aren't going to put her on the next bus out of here." CD agreed. "Hey, can you cover for me at work tomorrow?" I think I need to take the day off." "Sure," Nate said. "Don't worry." "I love you, Nate" CD said. It was getting hrder and harder to say goodnight. They had been dating for nearly a year, and had known each other for three. They 'd talked about marriage a couple of times,but CD was cautious. Nate understood that and understood even more about CD wanting to keep the relationship out of the bedroom.She needed to know that a man loved her for her, and not because of sex. He hated to think of how much she had been hurt in her life by men."I love you too, he said and they hung up. CD fell asleep after that,dreaming of Nate. She woke up a couple of hours later to Kelly screaming.

the saga continues.......

"Stop! Don't touch me! Leave me alone,please! CD ran out to the living room, having put her gun in her waistband. She flipped on a late and realized Kelly was having a nightmare. CD went over to the bed. "Kelly, Kelly, wake up, you're having a bad dream." Kelly woke up and looked at CD with a scared face. "Do you want to talk about it?" CD asked. "No, I'm okay, she said. Sorry I disturbed you." CD shook her head. Don't worry, about it. Do you want me to stay until you fall asleep?" Kelly said no, and laid back down and closed her eyes. CD went back to her room and tossed and turned until morning. In the morning, CD got up and got dressed. She went to see if Kelly was awake. Kelly wasn't in bed, and there was no sign of her in the apartment. Now what? She sat down and called Nate. "She's gone," CD said when Nate answered.

"What do you mean gone?" Nate asked. "I got up this morning, and there is no sign of her.I need to stay here in case she comes back. I don't know what else to do." Nate told her he would keep his eyes open for Kelly,but both agreed not to get the department involved yet. CD thought Kelly might be scared if she knew the police were looking for her, and CD was not even sure if Kelly knew CD was a police officer. She was frustrated. She had to stay put and staying put was not fun.She decided to try calling Kelly's aunt,maybe the aunt could shed some light on what Kelly's problem was. "Hello?" a woman answered,sounding a bit out of it. "Is this Dianne Andrews?" CD asked."Yes, who are you?" The woman sounded like she was on something,CD thought. Great. She was beginning to see what Kelly's life was like. "My name is CD DeLorenzo.I am Larry James' daughter." "Yeah,so, what do you need?" Dianne said snappily. She could care less about this CD person and even less about Larry......... "Well, I just wanted to let you know that Kelly stayed with me last night,but when I got up this morning,she was gone. I was wondering if you knew of she had any friends in the city that she might have gone to see." CD said. "No, I don't. I haven't seen the kid in two weeks. Good luck finding her, and when you do, tell her not to bother coming back unless she is ready to apologize to me, and she knows why!" With that, Dianne slammed the phone down. Now CD was REALLY confused.

Later, at the Division Nate was trying to finish up some paperwork on a case he and CD had just finished. He wanted to get out and search the streets some more for Kelly.There wasn't much going on,but Jinny and Magda had gotten called to a homicide. He looked up to see them walking into an interrogation room with someone. He looked more closely.It was Kelly! He got up. "Hey Magda," he called. Magda turned around. Jinny and Kelly had gone in the room and not seen Nate. "Yeah?" Magda asked. "Who did you just bring in?" he asked. Magda shrugged. "We aren't sure yet. She won't tell us her name, won't talk to us at all, but we think she had something to do with the homicide we're on. Why?" Nate did not want to tell Magda who Kelly was, he figured that was CD's business, but he also wanted to make sure that the girl didn't leave. "Just don't let her go, I will explain later," Nate said. He went to his desk and called CD. 'She's here, she's okay, but Jinny and Magda have brought her in for questioning on a case,"he said when CD answered. "I'm on my way" was all CD said, and she jumped in her car and drove to the Division,all the while wondering what case Kelly would have any information on. She parked her car and ran upstairs. "Where is she? Is she okay? What is she being questioned on?" Nate sat her down. "I don't know yet, but Jin and Magda are working on a homicide that happened this morning." CD took a deep breath. "Okay, can you get Jin and Magda to come out here?" she asked. Nate walked over to where Kelly was being held, and picked up the outside the room. He asked them to come out, that it was important. Jinny and Magda came out. "What's up?" Jinny asked. CD gestured towards the room. 'What are you holding the girl for?" she asked. "We have a homicide from this morning.It's looking like a drug deal gone bad. A couple of witnesses said they saw a girl matching her description running from the scene.We searched the park and found this kid hiding in the bathrooms all upset. She hasn't told us anything, she's most likely a runaway." Jinny sighed. We can't break her." CD took the file. "Why don't you let me take a turn here, and I will see if I can get you what you need." Jinny looked at CD. This wasn't like her to take over questioning wwitnesses on a case that wasn't even hers, plus Magda had told her Nate had acted funny when he saw the kid. "Do you know her or something?" Jinny asked. CD turned around. 'Yeah, I know her," CD replied and opened the door to where Kelly was. CD walked in. Kelly turned around,expecting to those two detectives again. She was shocked to see CD. "Wha- what are you doing here?" she asked.

CD sat down at the table,and Kelly sat down across from her. "Are you okay?" CD asked. Kelly nodded, "yeah, but how did you know I was here?" CD looked straight at her.'I am a police Inspector here. The man you saw me with last night is my partner, Nate. He saw you come in here,and called me." CD looked down at her file, and then asked, "Now what do you know about this murder?" Kelly didn't say anything,just stared down at the table.Great, she thought,CD was a cop. CD pulled her chair over to Kelly's side of the table and pulled her around so she was facing CD. "Look, Kelly, I know you are in some kind of trouble, but I really need to know what. I know you ran away from home two weeks ago,and that you are alot further from home than what you told me. So, for now, I need to know about this murder, and then you and I can get out of here."Kelly looked up at CD, a tear falling out of one eye. She took a deep breath. "The guy that died in the park is named Malcolm. I don't know his last name. I met him after I first left home. I was walking around late one night, and he said he would help me get here." She paused,not wanting to go on,but she had to. "He promised to get me here but he had some business to do first. I didn't realize he was dealing drugs.He kept me with him all of the time. I was scared. I told him I decided not to go San Francisco, that I would just stay in Bakersfield, but he wouldn't let me go." She was crying more earnestly now. He kept talking about a "big meeting" he had in San Francisco. Then the night before we came up here, he robbed a convenience store. He used me as a shield so nobody would shoot him. I swear, I didn't know he was going to do that. Anyway, he brought me here, to your apartment building. He said if I told anyone what happened, that he would know where to find me and he would kill me.CD took a hold of one of Kelly's hands. "Kelly, did he ever do anything to you? Really hurt you in any way?" He didn't rape me or anything, if that's what you mean." CD was relieved. "What happened this morning?" she asked. Kelly looked away for a minute, trying to compose herself. "I woke up early. I knew he was supposed to be meeting somebody this morning. I wanted to go tell him that I was just going to stay in town, that I didn't want him coming back to your apartment. You were being so nice, and I didn't want him bothering you. I didn't want you involved,but I didn't know you were a police officer. He told me I had to stay with him, if I didn't , he was going to kill me. Then the person he was meeting walked up to us. They started to argue about something, and the other guy shot Malcolm." Kelly looked very scared. 'He then pointed his gun at me, but a couple of other people were coming over, and he ran off. That was when I went and hid in the bathrooms, and then those other cops found me." CD put her arms around Kelly and hugged her.This kid had to have been so scared, and she hadn't even gotten to why she ran away from home in the first place. Oh, well, that would be for later. Right now, CD had to get Kelly out of there."Do you think you can give me a description of the other guy so we can go home?" She asked Kelly. Kelly nodded, and seemed to calm down a little. She told CD what the guy looked like, and then they walked out of the room together. CD had a protective arm around Kelly's shoulders. CD handed Magda the file. "There is her statement, and the description of the shooter," CD said. Then looking at everyone,said, "Everyone, I would like you to meet my step-sister, Kelly." They all looked very surprised, but at least it was making sense why CD had been acting the way she was before. "Captain?" Kate looked at CD. "Do you mind if I leave now? I would really like to get Kelly home." Kate shooed her off and CD gave Nate a meaningful look before leaving.

okay, here goes:

CD and Kelly walked into the apartment. Kelly sat down on the couch. She was tired, but she knew CD was not finished with her yet. "Are you hungry?" CD asked, going through her mail. Kelly shook her head, and then CD sat down next to her. "Okay. I called your aunt this morning," CD started. but Kelly interrupted her. "No, I can't go back,please, don't make me go!" CD lifted Kelly's face so she could look at her. "In the first place, as a witness in an ongoing murder investigation, you aren't going anywhere. Secondly, if there is something wrong at home, then you need to tell me. I can help, but you HAVE to trust me." Kelly took a deep breath, and then started her story. "When my mom died, I had to go live with Dianne. I didn't know her that well; she and my mom were not close. However,since mom did not have a will,and Dianne was the only family, she was kind of forced to take me. Anyway, soon after I moved in, I could tell things weren't right. She yelled at me all the time, was gone alot, and I basically had to take care of myself. When Dianne was home, she would often have boyfriends over too. They were always drinking and doing drugs." CD stopped her. 'Didn't you have a case worker checking on you?" Kelly laughed. "Dianne always knew when they were coming, and the house would be clean, and she would put on this perfect show. Anything to get money from the state to take care of me," Kelly said bitterly. CD sat there. No way should this fourteen year old girl have ever been put in this position. She knew from her own experiences why Kelly had remained quiet. It doesn't take much to figure out that basically no one cares; the caseworkers are too busy and other people think it isn't any of their business. So you just hope that you can survive until you're eighteen, and then you can get out. CD waited for Kelly to continue. "It got really bad a couple of months ago when Joe moved in." She sighed. "All of a sudden there was this guy in the house. He gave me the creeps. As much as possible, I stayed in my room so no one would bother me. One day though, we were in the house alone. He forced his way into my room and made a pass at me. Then Dianne came home and he threatened me so that I wouldn't tell. I was stupid, though, I did say something to Dianne right in front of him. Kelly now started to cry. "Dianne hit me and called me a lying, selfish, ungrateful brat. She told me to apologize, but I didn't. I went to my room, packed, and escaped out the window." Kelly looked back at CD. "I had to go, I really did." CD took Kelly in her arms and held her. "I understand, Kell, I really do. Don't worry- you won't go back there again. You have to tell me though, did that guy hurt you?" "No, he didn't," she said. "So what happens now?" 'Well, like I said, for the time being, you'll stay here because of the case, and I will start working on a more permanent situation. I promise you though, that everything will be fine." Kelly went to go to the bathroom, and CD started thinking. She didn't know what to do with Kelly. Part of her wanted to keep her, she was family, but she didn't know if she could handle the responsibility of a kid, especially one who was going to require alot of attention for awhile. Then again, since she had been through alot of the same stuff as Kelly, who better to take her?

After Kelly had fallen asleep in the living room, CD and Nate had gone into CD's room to talk. Nate had come over earlier with pizza, and the evening had been fun. No one talked about what had happened that day, and Kelly seemed relaxed. She seemed to like Nate, CD thought, which was good. CD hoped that all that had happened to Kelly wouldn't scar her for life. "I just can't believe that her aunt would just blow her off llike this- she really could care less about what happens to Kelly." CD had called Dianne earlier, telling her that Kelly had been a witness to a crime and would have to stay in San Francisco. "I mean, she was like oh, well, whatever." I tell you Nate, if she was my kid, I would have been here a LONG time ago. I can't send her back, but what do I do with her?" Nate sat down on the bed next to CD. "What about if she just lived here?" he asked. "Just what am I supposed to do with her when I get a 3 AM emergency call? What happens if I have to work late and she's, I don't know, late for band or something?" "CD, you need to be honest with yourself. If you want her to stay, then keep her. Everything else will fall into place. You are a very strong person,and you can do anything you set your mind to." CD sighed. She hated it when Nate was right. If she really wanted Kelly, the rest would be easy,but how do you make that kind of decision after only knowing someone for two days? "She looked at Nate. "Well, what do you think? I mean, this does concern you as well. "How's that?" Nate asked. He did know what CD meant, but he wanted CD to say it anyway. "Nate, I love you with all of my heart, and because I know we will always be together, this is a decision I need your input on. We wouldn't be able to be alone as much, because I will have to be here for dinner,making sure Kelly does her homework and doesn't run up a $300 phone bill talking to her friends. She needs to know that there is an adult here for her all of the time, and it is looking like I'm it." Nate took CD's hands in his. "Well, what if we had it so that we could be together while making sure the phone bill didn't go through the roof?" He looked at CD dead on. "I love you, CD, and will you marry me?" CD looked as if she were going to cry. They had talked about marriage in a general sense before, but.... "Yes," she whispered. "I will marry you." Nate pulled a ring box out of his jaclet pocket. "I have carried this box with me for 3 months now. I figured I would know when it was right." He out the ring on CD's finger and they started kissing,getting way too comfortable on the bed. CD almost started rethinking their "No sex until we are married" rule, but then she remembered Kelly. Now there was NO way. 'You have to go," she said softly. "I can't be a bad influence or anything." They crept out to the entry way. "Good night," CD said. "I love you." They kissed again,and Nate left. She closed the door. Now what???

Next installment-

The next morning, CD woke with a smile. She looked at the ring on her hand, still not believing Nate had proposed. There was a lot to work out now. A big problem was Kelly. CD needed to know if Kelly wanted to live here,and how she would feel about Nate being there as well. CD would have to convince Kelly if necessary that Nate was different than her aunt's boyfriends. Kelly had seemed to like Nate, maybe it would be fine. A slightly bigger problem was work. CD and Nate, knowing the strict rules about how you couldn't be partners and have a personal life together, were keeping their relationship a secret at work, except for Jinny and Magda. Oh well, time enough to work that out...she got up to check on Kelly. Kelly was awake and watching tv in bed. "What's on?" CD asked, sitting on the bed next to Kelly. "Nothing, I 'm just flipping through. "You don't even get HBO." CD laughed. 'Well, I usually rent my movies." Can we talk for a second?" Kelly turned the tv off and looked at CD. "I was thinking alot last night, and I was wondering, how would you like to live here with me permanently?" Kelly's eyes got huge. "Really?" CD nodded. Kelly threw her arms around CD. "That would be so awesome!" CD laughed at her enthusiasm. "Well, I will have to make it official with Social Services, and you will have to talk about everything that happened at Dianne's house, but I think it will work. Now, there is one other important thing you have to know though, and its a secret." "Okay," Kelly said. "Last night, Nate proposed to me and I said yes. How do you feel about that?" Kelly smmiled. "I think it's great, CD, I could tell you were more than partners." Well, I want you to know that Nate is behind you living here 100%. CD smiled. "He thinks you're a pretty great kid." "Now, let's go have breakfast."

Later-

CD was dressed and ready for work. She did not want to leave Kelly, but figured no way was Cap going to give her a second day off. "Kelly, I need to go now. my cell phone number is by the phone; call if you need anything.Don't answer the door and just stay inside. "Nate and I will come get you for lunch." "Okay, CD , I will be fine. See you later." CD smiled and left, making sure the door was locked behind her. She walked outside,humming to herself. She didn't notice someone watching from the corner of the building......

Karl was being very patient as he watched CD get in her car and drive away. He would wait a little while longer,and the go up. He was mad. First the deal with that idiot Malcolm had gone sour,forcing Karl to kill Malcolm.Then, there was that kid that saw the whole thing. He was going to shoot her right then and there,but there were other people running over, and he had to leave. Well, he was going to finish the kid off now. He was NOT going to get caught on a murder rap.

CD arrived at work. Nate had been waiting for her and ran over to her. "Hey about time you got here," he said with a smile. They kissed. "Are we really going to get married?" CD asked. "Well yeah, unless you change your mind." CD looked at him. "I am not going to change my mind." They kissed again quickly after making sure no one else was around. "Hey,where's the ring?" Nateasked as they walked into the building. CD grinned and showed him her necklace, then tucked it back under her shirt. "I had to get creative,: she said. They walked into the office; it was going to be a long day.

Back at CD's-

Kelly was bored. There wasn't much to do except play games on the computer.She was pretty good at Freecell,though. She had the stereo on and didn't hear Karl enter the apartment. "Hello there beautiful,"Karl said, putting his hand over Kelly's mouth. "Remember me? "I have a gun, so I will use it if you make any noise,understand?" Kelly nodded, tears streaming down her face. Karl let go of Kelly and pointed her to the living room. "Wha-what are you going to do to me?" Kelly asked. She was terrified. She had almost forgotten about this guy after everything else that had happened. "How did you know where to find me?" Karl let out an evil laugh. "Oh, I have my ways," he said, forcing Kelly into a chair. "Now," he said, "what did you tell the cops, and whose apartment is this?"Kelly started thinking. It was 10:30,too early for CD and Nate to come get her for lunch. She had to stall this guy somehow, but how?" "I didn't tell them anything,at least not about you. I told them about Malcolm, but I said I didn't know who you were. Please, I promise, I won't say anything, just let me go!" "Sorry, babe,no can do. CD listened to the phone ring and ring. The answering machine picked up. "Kelly, it's me, pick up." CD paused. "Kelly, pick up the phone!" She waited again, and then hung up. "What's wrong?" Nate asked,coming back to his desk. "Kelly's not answering the phone." CD frowned. "Could be several reasons why she didn't answer, none a real cause for worry." Nate said. Kate walked over to them. "How are we doing on the park homicide?" "Jinny and Magda are out looking,but no real leads yet," Nate replied. Suddenly, CD jumped up. "Actually,though, we just got a call about it,so we're out of here," she said. "Okay, just keep me informed," Kate said. CD ran to her car so fast,Nate had a hard time catching up. They got in the car and CD drove fast out of the parking lot, turning just her emergency lights on, no siren. "What's wrong,CD?" Nate asked. "I didn't think of it, why didn't i think?" CD had a very scared look on her face. Nate was confused. "What do -oh man. You think he might be at your place?" "I didn't notice anyone following us yesterday,but Kelly should be answering the phone." "You want to call for backup?" "Let's just get there first," CD said. She was never going to forgive herself if anything happened to Kelly. They reached CD's apartment building. CD parked just past it, and she and Nate walked to the entrance. So far,everything seemed fine. They went up to CD's floor and when they got closer to CD's door, they could tell it wasn't closed all the way.They each took a side of the door, drawing their weapons,and listened. "Well, I think I've got enough here, now to make it look good." Karl knocked over a couple of lamps, and the CD and Nate burst in. "Freeze scumbag," CD said. "SFPD. Turn around very slowly and drop your weapon." Karl didn't move. "Okay, don't make me ask again," CD started. "You'd better do what she says, buddy." Nate said. "She hasn't had lunch, and this is HER apartment." Karl hesitated again, but then dropped his gun, and put his hands on his head. Nate walked over to him and handcuffed him. CD ran over to free Kelly. She put her arms around Kelly and let the girl cry. "Is this the guy from the park?" Kelly nodded, and Nate got him out out of there. "Sweetie, I am so sorry. Are you okay"?Kelly nodded. "Yeah, and he was going to kill me." "Well, it's over now. Come on." CD led Kelly out of the apartment.They walked outside to where Nate was. He had Karl in the backseat of the car. "I read him his rights, and Jinny and Magda are on their way over to take care of him." Nate looked at Kelly."Are you okay,Kelly,?" "Yeah, I'm fine. You guys got there just in time." Nate frinned. "As usual, our timing is impeccable." CD rolled her eyes at him and smiled.

Kate had Nate and CD in her office, getting the rundown about what had gone on with Karl. Kelly was sitting at CD's desk, being entertained by Raina. Kelly just wanted out of there; she had seen WAY too much of police stations lately. "So is Kelly okay?" Kate asked CD. CD nodded, "I think she is a bit scared still, but at least THIS nightmare is over for her." Kate raised her eyebrows at that, and the CD told Kate everything that Kelly had told her of her homelife. "So, I actually thought of taking Kelly in myself. She is family, and I think I can help her through this." Kate nodded,knowing that CD would be perfect for Kelly now. "Why don't you take the next couple of days off,"Kate suggested, "and get Kelly settled? You are going to need to contact the authorities in Bakersfield,and get official proceedings started with becoming her guardian.Just let me know if I can help in any way." CD smiled and gave her Captain a hug. 'Thanks, Cap." With that, Nate and CD walked out of the office and over to their desks. Raina stood up. 'What did the Captain say?" "She said I could have the next couple of days off and I am SO getting out of here before she changes her mind. Come on, Kelly." Kelly stood and said goodbye to Raina. "I'll call you later," Nate said. Kelly and CD left. Later that evening, Kelly was asleep. CD and Nate were sitting out on the deck talking. "Nate, I think we have to come clean with our relationship. I can't do the "MacGruder and Loud" thing, and I am going to have to tell the social worker that I am getting married." CD had already called social services in San Francisco to get the proceedings started to become Kelly's legal guardian. She and Kelly had an appointment the next day so Kelly could give her statement to them about Joe and Dianne. Nate touched her arm gently, and said,"Are you sure?" Captain might not let us work together anymore." CD faced him. "I think we have proven in the last year that we have been dating that we can work together professionally and not let our personal feelings get in the way. Besides, I just love you so much, and I can't stand keeping it a secret any longer." She moved in for a kiss and got one.Nate put his arms around her, running his hands up and down her back, making her spine shiver. "Okay, then, why don't we get Cap to come over tomorrow and we will talk to her alone?" CD nodded."We could talk to her at your place, I bet I can leave Kelly with Jinny and Teddy for awhile."

The next day,CD and Kelly had breakfast, and then got ready to see the social worker at 10. Before they left, CD called Jinny at work. "Hey Jin-it's CD. I need a favor." 'Wow-a favor, really?" Jinny asked sarcastically. All she and Magda had been doing for Nate and CD this past year were favors to help hide their relationship. She didn't mind though- it was fun. "What's up?" "Well, Nate and I are planning on talking to the Captain tonight, and I was wondering if I could drop Kelly off at your place around 6 or 7. I don't know for sure until Nate tells me that he talked to Cap, but it should be around then." "Sure, no prob, Jinny said. "Thanks a mil and I'll see you later." CD hung up. The interview with social services went well. Kelly had had to tell her story all over again, but she was okay. Then Kelly went outside to wait while CD talked with the social worker privately. "Now are you sure that you are ready to take this girl on after only knowing her for a few days?" CD nodded. "Yes, I am, and I just want to make sure that Kelly is never around that guy again. CD continued. 'My fiance is behind this totally and Kelly is happy as well." The social worker stood. "Well, we will get started, and I'll be in touch about doing a home study, and I will need to meet your fiance as well." CD shook her hand, and said no problem, and then she and Kelly left. Nate called her on her cell phone a few minutes later. "Cap is coming by at 7:30," he said. "Okay, I will see you around 7. I love you." They hung up. "You're going out tonight?" Kelly asked. "Yeah, I am,but I am going to take you over to Jinny's tonight. It will only be for a few hours, and you'll have fun with Jinny. Jin will probably be all too happy to tell you funny stories about me." Kelly laughed. Later, they got to Jinny's. CD introduced Kelly to Teddy,said goodbye, and then Jinny walked her to the door. "So what's going on anyway?" Jinny asked. CD thought for a moment, and said,"Well, Nate and I decided to come clean with Kate about our relationship, and see what happens." Jinny grinned. "Good luck!" CD got in her car. "Thanks, I am sure we will need it." She drove to Nate's. "I am so nervous,"she said, kissing Nate hello. "It's going to be fine, I promise." Nate looked at her. "I love you." CD smiled, and relaxed a bit. A few minutes later, Kate knocked on the door. After Nate had led her into the living room, the three of them sat down. "So," Kate said, what is all this about?" Nate looked at CD and started. "CD and I have been dating for almost a year now. We are in love, and I proposed to her and she said yes." Kate looked between them She was a little surprised to hear this, but, then again, not very. "So why are you telling me now?" CD swallowed hard. "Look, we want to get married as soon as possible. We also want to continue to work together, and we need to know if you are behind us or not." Kate thought for a minute. Rules were rules, but that didn't mean they couldn't be broken. Ultimately, this wasn't her decision to keep them together, but it did help if she approved of the relationship.Sometimes, these relationships were approved, although that wasn't widely known. "So what happens if the head honchos say you guys have to be split up?" She asked. Nate and CD looked at each other before Nate answered. "We would abide by their decision, but we are hoping that you would at least support us and that our record of this past year would prove that we have always acted in a professional manner on the job, and kept our personal feelings separate." CD jumped in. "We can do this, Kate." CD, after knowing Kate for 12 years, could call Kate by her first name at times. Kate had been a mother figure to CD over the years. "Well, I will give my support to you. You are a great pair, professionally, and I can see that you really love each other. I won't make any promises about the head honchos, though. I will start by letting the brass know what is going on, and you both will have to be interviewed, and so on. When do you plan on actually getting married?" "As soon as possible, so we can be settled for this guardianship thing with Kelly," CD said.

Kate stood. 'Well, I will keep you posted," she said. Nate and CD both walked her to the door, said thank you, and Kate left. Nate and CD smiled at each other and hugged. "Now," Nate said huskily, "How about a little alone time before you leave?" CD smiled. They kissed,moving over to the couch. Nate sat down, pulling CD onto his lap."Do you have any idea how happy I am right now?" He asked."Yeah, I think I do," CD said. She kissed him again,relieved that their relationship was out in the open, and they could tell people they were engaged.

Okay- sorry I haven't posted in awhile- here goes the final installment.

CD left Nate's to go get Kelly from Jinny's. She was so happy that the meeting with Kate had gone well. "So what happened?" Jinny asked when CD got there. "Well, Cap is goingto let us continue working together while she lets the brass know, and we will see how it goes." CD didn't mention the engagement,she and Nate were going to tell everyone tomorrow. Kelly came in.'Ready, CD." she said. CD smiled. "Thanks again, Jinny." Jinny grinned. "No problem, MOM." CD rolled her eyes.

The next day, CD and Nate drove to work together. They had Kelly with them. CD was planning on taking her to her new school in the afternoon to register her, and still did not want to leave Kelly home alone. Once Kelly was in school, CD was hoping to get back to a more normal work schedule. When they got out of the car, Nate took CD's hand. "Are you ready for this?" he asked. CD grinned. "Yeah, I think this will be fun."Kelly walked in next to CD, and sat down at an empty desk in the bullpen. "Hey, guys!" Raina greeted them. "Hey,yourself, where is everybody?" Nate asked. Magda and Jinny walked in, followed by Kate. Nate took CD's hand.No time like the present.He took a deep breath and made the announcement. "Guys, we just thought that we would let you know that we are getting married." "What? I never even knew you werre dating!" Raina said, shocked. Jinny and Magda grinned, and everyone offerred their congratulations to the couple. "So, when is the big day?" Magda asked. "Well, we are going to get the blood tests and apply for our license as soon as possible," CD said. "You guys will all be invited of course." Kate cleared her throat. "I hate to break up the party," she said, but let's get to work."

A few weeks later, CD was nervously getting dressed. Kelly pounded on the door. "CD, HURRY! Jinny and Magda will be here any minute!" CD ignored her, and kept looking in the mirror to see if everything was perfect. She was wearing a short white dress with long sleeves. She had curled her hair a bit more than usual. Her grandmother's pearl necklace and earrings completed the look. She heard Jinny and Magda knock at the door. Time to go. Kelly went to answer the door. "CD has been in her bedroom FOREVER," Kelly said. "Put a sock in it, Kel, I am ready now. Little sisters can be such a pain." Kelly pretended to be hurt by that remark,but secretly, she was happy. Living with CD was turning out to be much more fun than she ever dreamed, and Kelly absolutely adored Nate. "Wow, CD , you look great," Magda said. "Well, let's get out of here before I lose my nerve." CD said. Jinny laughed. "Boy, never thought I would see the day that CD was scared about something!"CD glared at her, and then turned her attention back to Kelly. 'Do you ahve all of your stuff together?" Kelly nodded. "I put my bag with yours." Kelly was going to be staying with Kate and Louis while CD was on her honeymoon. They all left to go to the courthouse. Raina,Kate,Louis, and Teddy were already there,waiting with Nate. Teddy ran over to the car when he saw Jinny drive up. "Where's Nate?" Jinny asked. "Upstairs, trying to remember how to breathe." Teddy laughed, and CD smiled. "Well," Magda said, laughing, that makes two of them!"Everyone went upstairs. Once they were all in the judge's chambers, Nate got a chance to say something to CD. "You look beautiful," he said softly. "You don't look too bad yourself,buddy." CD said smiling. The the ceremony got underway, with Jinny and Teddy acting as the official witnesses. Then they all went to Magda's for a reception. CD and Nate danced most of the night away. "I love you, Mrs.Basso." He kissed her, and started wishing they were already at their hotel. CD pulled away, her eyes shining. She never thought she could be this happy. "I love you too, and I think we ought to go." They said goodbye, CD telling Kate thanks again for taking Kelly that week, and then giving Kelly a hug goodbye. "You be good for the Captain,ya got it?" "I promise to be on my best behavior."Kelly said. Kalte laughed. "CD, don't worry about a thing. Now you two had better get out of here before I change my mind about giving you a vacation in the first place." "Yes, Captain!" CD saluted and got in the car. They drove off to the airport where they would take off for Hawaii to start their new life together.
