Ok.. I seem to be having a computer problem thats really starting to :grady: me off. Ill be watching TV (from the computer) browsing the boards and then BAM! this... system error in a small box pops up and says it will shutdown- save all your unsaved documents blah blah blah. Its on a 60 sec. countdown. This has happened now 4 times- yet it seems to do it only when the TV is on. Hold that thought. I had to post this not even done because it came up. This time I took a screengrab of it. Im running a virus scan, but it did one just on the 8th. *screams* ANYONE PLEASE.. HELP ME. I dont think I can take this :grady: thing anymore!! :cuss: :cuss:

Hmm... I don't really know how to help on this one but have you tried running scan disk?

Whats that? Im sure we have it. Thing is... the comp. wont stay on now for more than like, 10 min. it started off as 25, now its going down..

When I re-started (AGAIN..%#%%#@!!) my virus thing came up and said it couldnt scan Instant Messenger.. but it didnt say AIM.. oh well. I just deleted it anyways. Lately its been popping up for me to upgrade and I kept cancelling it. Ill see what happens.

Im about to take a bat to this thing and give it a reason to shutdown. Ok, so its not AIM.. I just deleted the $%%$%^ thing for nothing. MEANGYA. I just shut down the computer entirely, along with mine next to it.

And now, before that other window, I get THIS one...

Crystal...I got the same error on my other computer, your using windows XP right? I contacted emacheines people, and they said there is no way to fix it right now, but to restart your computer to before august, and to STAY OFF THE INTERNET! because it is either a worm or virus.

Errm ya. Im dumb. That wasnt the thing I DL.:lol: The XP thing wasnt even finished. :doh: It finished and I ran it through and it was on for more than 20 minutes. :faint: I think its better.... *crosses fingers*

I have windows XP too and mine's doing the same exact thing...as soon as its restarted it just does it again, so I just turned the whole computer off. I'm on my cousin's computer right now

I dont know how many times it did it to my Dad, he came on at about 8:45-11:45, he just said it did it. Ive been on for about 22 minutes and so far so good. *knocks on wood*

Yeah I have XP. I haven't downloaded anything, yet, since it's been working fine for now with me being connected to a firewall. :lol:

The Net is getting worse and worse :(

:p to all of you who told me to download a new version of Windows, aka XP. Even though AIM was acting up that one day, this machine hasn't done anything bad. And the reason AIM was acting up was because I downloaded AIM+, not because I had Windows 98.

They were just talking about this on our local news, and how the patch wasn't working for some... scary virus...

God I know! :mad: Even when I connect to firewall, once I get disconnected, that message pops up, and then I have to restart about 12 or 13 freaking times, before the message doesn't pop up for a few minutes so I can connect back on firewall. :mad:

I myself and am a little confused on this whole thing,...All I know is this new virus uses that exploit to download and run a file... And this virus also tries to Take down Windowsupdate.com the site that has the patch to prevent you from getting the patch...





The messages you guys are describing involve this exploit... rather or not getting the message means you have the virus... I don't know...

The Virus trying to take down Windowsupdate.com is supposed to start in a few days...

A DoS being a Denial Of Service attack, Basically sending so much info to the site in an attempt to crash it...

according to some articles I read... The machines infected also scans other computers to send it to them... And this virus has crashed machines but not infected them... perhaps thats what you guys are describing?

You should be downloading every patch ;) though I don't blame you if you don't, sometimes the patches make stuff worse lol, thats why I always make a system restore point before installing them...

It's not a virus, per se, it's more a problem with how Microsoft doesn't know how to write a solid operating system. They left a big hole right there for someone with any bit of skills to exploit the hell out of it. I wouldn't expect anything less from a company whose claim of "innovation" leaves the core of the OS exploitable in such "innovative" ways, and causes millions of it's users to go berserk.

I'm kinda glad I don't use Microsoft's Operating System or most of their software products (their hardware division isn't that bad, they make quality products) but just to be sure, I've applied the proper patches to my family's Windows XP computers from Microsoft, the last thing I need to hear from them is complaints.

This is more "worm" than virus, and while so far it looks like it is being used in an attack on Microsoft, because it uses the Remote Procedure Call exploit, it could be used to delete files download other files or propagate itself in numerous ways. Some other users have reported finding a file "msblast.exe" on their systems that reports information back to a website, it also prevents opening pictures, infects files in the Kazaa shared files folder and some other negative aspects.

With the potential problems with such security holes, it is very important that everyone check for updates and patches regularily, use a firewall (something better than XP's one please - Zone Alarm is free) and keep your antivirus software up to date (again Grisoft's AVG is free for non-commercial use).

Cripe, I read that and that really sucks. It said the worm would be at it's peak today, but window hasn't popped up for about a half hour.

I tried downloading the patch yesterday, and it didn't work, it said that it didn't find a msblast.exe file or something like that. So I thought everything was fine, so I turned off my computer and went to bed, and when I got back on this morning, the message popped up at least 8 more times, and now I'm going to try downloading the patch, again, from that one site, while connected to firewall, I have to connecte to regular connection earlier today to see if it was gone or not...but now the site with the patch won't load, it's going to a just white page...and goes to not found after a while...SOMEONE HELP! :eek: :(

I just want to say to everyone with a computer problem: (And, you should take the time to read)

Make sure you have, AND KEEP FREQUENTLY UPDATED these things:

A Virus Scanner (I can't suggest one, because some Liberals will accuse me of using a "My way or the highway" thing because "Conservative" is in my name)

A Firewall (I can't suggest one, because some Liberals will accuse me of using a "My way or the highway" thing because "Conservative" is in my name)

A program that finds and deletes "Spyware" and "Adware". (I can't suggest one, because some Liberals will accuse me of using a "My way or the highway" statement because "Conservative" is in my name)

Other tips after you get these:

Don't use "KaZaA" or any other file-sharing program to download full versions of Virus Scanners/Firewalls, just go spend the 40 - 50 bucks and do it right. Like with the registering and everything. The Spyware/Adware removal programs are free, I'm pretty sure, so I guess you can get them from KaZaA. I wouldn't, though. I'd still go to their websites and get them.

Be sure to run the Spyware/Adware scanner, and the Virus Scanner to scan your computer at least once a week. I'd do the Spyware/Adware Removal program scanner at least once a day, especially when you're done using the Internet)

Make sure your Virus Scanner and Firewall are always running, ESPECIALLY if you are on the Internet; and MORE ESPECIALLY, (Not really a real phrase I don't think, lol) if you have any sort of an "Always on" Internet connection such as Cable, DSL, Satellite, etc. And MOST ESPECIALLY have them on if you're using any File-sharing network such as "KaZaA".

I've been on 50 minutes now - NO SHUTDOWN ERROR! :woohoo: BTW, if you get sent to a site with two different XP download choices (32-bit, 64-bit)....Well, if you got XP BEFORE this year, you have 32-bit. If you got XP after this year, you have 64-bit. I've had XP since it was new in November 2001 so I had to get the 32-bit file. :)

I've been on 50 minutes now - NO SHUTDOWN ERROR! :woohoo: BTW, if you get sent to a site with two different XP download choices (32-bit, 64-bit)....Well, if you got XP BEFORE this year, you have 32-bit. If you got XP after this year, you have 64-bit. I've had XP since it was new in November 2001 so I had to get the 32-bit file. :) Thank you!! I just on the update site have microsoft scan for updates that I haven't installed then it has my history of what ive installed so far and stuff... ive had no problems with downloading the wrong one...

I'm stupid, I realized that I forgot to change the 3 tabs in RPC control thingie to do nothing. :lol: Anyways the message hasn't popped up for almost 5 hours! :woohoo: On regular connection! :woohoo: I'm back on Firewall connection now though, since it's safer from what I heard. :lol: I also saw this worm on the news today... :lol:

I havn't done anything to my computer, and that worm, window thing hasn't popped up all day...

AHHH :mad: Instead of that thing popping up, my internet keeps freezing. It's driving me crazy

Stupid thing got me tonight. I used a link given to me in another forum, and I think I'm fine now...

Same here - been almost 8 hours since I got it installed...No errors so far :D

2 more versions of this virus have been discovered according to symantec...

No. But stay tuned. There will be patches for the new ones. Make sure you keep anti-virus software running at all times.

Downloaded the Microsoft patch, firewalled the connection, DL'ed a program that removed the worm and all related stuff, changed the settings in the computer, and I'm clean.

Got hit with it on the first day, before it hit the news. Didn't even know what it was until today, when I got to talking with someone at work who had the same problem.

Cursed hippies and their viruses.... :D

Something is bound up in my computer and I don't know how to get rid of it.
When I turn it on two different problems pop up. I can most always click them away and continue, but still, I'd like to clear them up.

One thing says 'This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down'. I click it twice and usually it goes away. Then another thing pops up that says 'Error loading. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format'. It's a dll that I think has been detached from it's program and doesn't know where to go. It might not matter what they are called but I'll tell you anyway in case it heps. One is:
2ndsrch.dll

The other is:
rundll32

Can anyone make heads or tails out of this mess I'm in.

rundll32 Is perfectly normal, but I guess it could still be infected. Definitely don't delete it though.

2ndsrch.dll, I have never heard of. I'm thinking this is a spyware file that's gotten onto your hard drive; but don't delete it yet because I'm not sure.

Make sure you have, AND KEEP FREQUENTLY UPDATED these things:

A Virus Scanner

A Firewall

A program that finds and deletes "Spyware" and "Adware".

Other tips after you get these:

Don't use "KaZaA" or any other file-sharing program to download full versions of Virus Scanners/Firewalls, just go spend the 40 - 50 bucks and do it right. Like with the registering and everything. The Spyware/Adware removal programs are free, I'm pretty sure, so I guess you can get them from KaZaA. I wouldn't, though. I'd still go to their websites and get them.

Be sure to run the Spyware/Adware scanner, and the Virus Scanner to scan your computer at least once a week. I'd do the Spyware/Adware Removal program scanner at least once a day, especially when you're done using the Internet)

Make sure your Virus Scanner and Firewall are always running, ESPECIALLY if you are on the Internet; and MORE ESPECIALLY, (Not really a real phrase I don't think, lol) if you have any sort of an "Always on" Internet connection such as Cable, DSL, Satellite, etc. And MOST ESPECIALLY have them on if you're using any File-sharing network such as "KaZaA".

Thanks for your suggestions and such, Baller. Most of it I follow already so I'm in pretty good shape here. I think what happened is that I had visitors using my computer. They must have accidently partially downloaded the 2ndsr... program. The other one, Rundll, was a reaction to the trouble that program was causing. I didn't delete the Rundll. It serves a purpose. What I did do, finally, is use my 'Find file' thing and found the 2ndsr...file. I went into 'Properties' and could see that it had been downloaded in just the past few days. So, I concluded, it was not a necessary program or one that I wanted. I deleted it and even deleted it from the 'recycle bin'.-- Problem solved.

Did I call it? Ye-- Uh, well no, I wasn't sure.... Heh anyway, glad everything's going good for ya now. I hate it when weirdo search bars get on your computer somehow (Spyware/Adware) like "Blowsearch - Search as fast as the Wind" and COUNTLESS others...

Well that IS true in some rare cases, but definitely not all the time. The majority of people simply want safe computers. And who can frickin' blame 'em!?

My computer was loaded with spyware before I downloaded Spybot and got rid of it. Spyware is an absolute pain in the keister! There is no reason to put up with it if you can help it.

Flash 5, although a little confusing at times, works pretty well if you have a collection of .GIF's you wanna put in a sequence.
