View Full Version : Give Desi A Break!!

Okay, this should go under "Lucie Hates Lucy" but I'm posting it here because there's 10 pages, and you'd get lost trying to see my reply. Here it is:

Ya'll will just have to face the truth, Lucy was cold and bitter alot, and for crying out loud, give Desi a freakin break!! Most people focus on Lucy too much, and throw dirt in Desi's face because he had problems too. Ya'll think Lucy was just so perfect.
She heaps endless praise on her alcoholic, cheating father, but hasn't a single kind word to say about her mother.
Grrr........have you ever watched the home movies?? I don't blame Lucie for one bit for praising her "alchoholic, cheating father". He was an awesome man. On the home movies she said he had a way about him that was joyous, and another part where she said, 'he was working all the time, but when he came home, he would do stuff with us.' Then with her mother she said when she came, 'she would still be working.'
At least through all his problems and stress, he at least took time out for kids. That explains why Lucie praises her father more than her mother.
Grr...what am I gonna do with people like you?
Without Desi, ILL wouldn't be anywhere as good today.

I told you, we're just funnin here, i LOVE Desi so much more than Lucy, and if you believe that, i have some swamp land to sell you in Florida! Seriously Maggie, if i had been friends with them, i would not have been happy with a blunt person like Lucy, i would much have preferred a loving caring person like Desi. I have to go now, i'm working on getting bush re-elected.

Mickey
08-11-2003, 04:36 PM
Splain, behave yourself. There'll be no talk like "getting Bush re-elected" on a family site, thankyou very much. Very very rude words...

Babalucy, for years I've never understood the fascination with Lucy, at the expense of Desi. I suppose it's because she was a woman in a man's world, and was the first woman to do so much of what she did. Well sorry everybody, but regular visitors here know that I think Desi is much funnier! And plays a nicer character in ILL. And is a better drummer. And giggles more in the show when he shouldn't. :)

If Lucy deserves respect (and she does, a hell of a lot of it) for being a woman in a man's world back then, Desi deserves the same amount of respect for being a Latino in a world where it's still hard to get by.

And did I mention that he was funnier than Lucy? :)

I agree all the way Mickey Richardson! (haha, what Lucy's mother called Ricky on ILL, ya know? lol)
Desi and Lucy should have equal respect..

and I do think Desi is funnier! Me and my brother like him the best! My mom likes *coughs* Ethel the best! And my dad..dunno? lol
It's just so funny to see how Desi reacts to situations, just watching his face is hilarious! He was a genius with comedy. And Lucy...she was great when she was given something to do..stomping grapes, candy factory..and I love her face when she first tasted Vitameatavegimin...
I can't explain it, but I still will always love Desi the best. ;) *shrugs*

A lot of us are sick of a lot of things, but we try to talk it out constructively, not with attacks. If you have a point to make, make it, but lines like, What am I going to do with people like you? don't cut it with me.

So take a deep breath, and relax. It's not life and death.

LUCILLE BALL
08-11-2003, 07:46 PM
My thoughts are this...without having to repeat or contradict my previous thoughts in the LUCY/LUCIE thread.

I do admire his creativity and talent and the fact he pioneered television.

I don't beleive there was ever be another Love as temultuous and intense as theirs.

Lucy LOVED Desi.....would do anything for him.

I don't praise him as a person...I don't think you can cover up for the fact he did what he did to Lucy. his wmanizing and boozing hurt Lucy...and I have read his book and he makes it clear in saying he loved her...But when you Love someone like he says he loves her....you don't go out and purposely do those things knowing how much it hurts that person. There are NO excuses for that. He says it is his culture and I see so many of the Desilu people he worked with accept that. When he came to America and became naturalized, which was actually later on....he became American, which means you take on American cultures. (taken aside the fact that today everybody and there cousin booze and browse we are talking about over 60 some years ago) he says in his culture, a man should have as many women as he has hairs on his head. Some one explain this....when you have Lucy, who his the most wonderful and most perfectly beutiful woman in your life, and you have everything with her why would you look elsewhere? I don't think at that time there was a woman as beautiful as Lucy. The women he was with, had nothing on the beauty Lucy had. I think in having to booze and browse, while he had everything in the most wonderful treasure in the world at home......I would have to say desi was in severe need of a "Feeseekeyatrist".

I also do not think Desi should be an honerary citizen of Jamestown and Cleoron New York. But we all know why that is now don't we???

bweir
08-12-2003, 12:31 AM
 I'm sure Desi's boozing and "browsing" as the poster above put it were primary factors in the breakdown of the Lucy-Desi Relationship, after all we all know that Lucy was not perfect (I am not going to go any further with this as I know where LUCILLEBALL is going to go with it...I am a bit sick of it). Desi is honoured in Jamestown and Celoron because he and Lucy were two groups of people that will forever be linked. He was the love of Lucy's life, the person who Lucy brought back to Jamestown for Hunt's funeral and the premiere of Forever Darling. There is no reason why Desi should not be honored in this way. Besides, if Lucy and Desi did not have each other it is not likely that there would be so many people talking about Lucille Ball today.

Nope. Sorry. When you go to live in a country you don't have to take on their cultures. Going off topic now, granted, but... no. For starters what's American culture? There are hundreds of them, and rightly so, since your ancestors come from all over the world. It's the same in the UK. When people come here from other countries and settle we don't demand that they all become Christian by religion, and speak nothing but English, and drop the traditions of their religions and culture!

Anyway... moving swiftly on...

Yes Splain, I knew exactly what you were saying when you mentioned Bush's election campaign! I just can't seem to resist the chance to be very rude about him. :)

Say what you want, where you want, Babalucy - just don't go winding people up. Otherwise it'll turn into a free for all, like the 'Lucie hate Lucy' thread very nearly did. I agree with you, certain people are very hard on poor Desi. Any faults that marriage had were a fifty-fifty split between him and Lucy, and neither of them was a saint.

SPLAIN
08-12-2003, 11:02 AM
That's so true. Lucy might have been hard to work with, being a hard working perfectionist, but she was also generous. Desi might have cheated and drank and gambled away a fortune, but he was a gregarious charmer who used to take his kids by the hand to go check out a sunset or rainbow. When we remember them, we must remember them fairly, they were human like all of us, would any of us like our dirty laundry aired out for everybody to see? But also remember Maggie, that this place is famous for it's harshness, but it's never boring here, when nobody posts, they start a thread like Lucie Hates Lucy and we all join in. If there was no truth to it, it would have ended long ago. I only wish Lucie's biggest fan Laura would join in to give us the OTHER side of the coin.

So very true. We have a lot of Mexicans here, and a good chunk of them don't learn English (or take a long time in doing so) and they still practice their own customs. Same goes with many of the SE Asians we have here.

But I do moderate it, so if whatever you say is rude or argumentative, it will be taken care of. So no, you can't say whatever you want, whenever...no one can.

And learn to live with others' opinions. If you get mad everytime people like Lucy better than Desi, you're in for a very sad life.

I am NOT anti-Lucy, Sherry. Knowing that she was not a perfect person does not deminish my respect and admiration of her. It is just that I have tried to look at as many perspectives on the woman as I possibly find and those are my conclusions. I am a Lucille Ball fan. I am a Desi Arnaz fan. I am a Lucie Arnaz fan. I didn't know my "fandom" had to be exclusive to one person.

Yes, as do I. HOWEVER, if I remember correctly, you were first "introduced" to Lucille Ball through I Love Lucy, so if that show never happened, you would have probably only found that movie due to your interest in the Big Band sound.

But there is soooooo much more to Lucy than I love Lucy. She was multitalented. Her movies are just as good as her shows, because she gets to show that she is not just some ditzy clown. I was first introduced to her through her shows, I watched with my grammy when I was a kid. But when I started watching her in movies, i wfell in love with Lucy because i found there is much more to this lady, and I cannot name any other actress or actor for that matter that has a smuch fame from their movies as their tv shows. Remember she started in her movies and became Queen of the B's and would do whatever it took to stay in the game, or especially of it meant getting a laugh, which is what she wanted to do to begin with. That was her nitch. She loved to be in the "arena" of show biz and doing films, but her nitch was in making people laugh and she found that when television came to her. I have the pleasure of hearing her old time radio shows...My Favorite Husband. I think it is as funny, if not funnier than I Love Lucy. Sure, most people come to know her and love her because of her work in I Love Lucy, but that is not to say, anyone couldn't love her because of her "other" stuff she did. There were Lucy fans BEFORE I love Lucy. Some people forget that though.

Mickey
09-03-2003, 08:01 AM
Lucille, I honestly believe that there's nobody here who forgets what a multi-talented person Lucy was, or the many, many things she did before and after ILL. I've also never noticed anybody being rude about her here. Proposing alternative views, perhaps. She did hundreds of films, with big and small roles in many of them. ILL was the show that made her a big, lasting name, but I'm sure it's inspired many other people to go and watch other things that she did. Same as The A-Team made so many people investigate George Peppard's movie career.

Dawsongirl, I know that you closed that other thread down, and I'm sorry to reawaken one of the points in it; but you keep closing down threads where people have had a go at me before I have a chance to reply! Yes I prefer Desi to Lucy, Lucille. I don't see why that means I can't come to an ILL forum. It's the show's name, not a statement of preference! When I first saw ILL, quite by accident one morning, having never heard of it or Desi, I was already very familiar with Lucy's work. I'm a Bob Hope fan, see, and that had made be look into some of Lucy's other things. I watched ILL, loved it, but happened to prefer Desi. I don't like Lucy's films, and yes I have seen a lot of them. I just happened to come out of the show preferring Desi. Not as a person necessarily - I never met either of them, and would therefore never profess to love either of them, and claim to know what they were like in person. I do have a bunch of his albums though. I'm genuinely sorry if my point of view offends you, but hard luck. Desi is the one who made me laugh more, and it's Desi's outside ILL work that I prefer.

There is certainly nothing wrong in liking Desi more than Lucy but you have to admit it's not the normal reaction to make statements like Desi was funnier than Lucy. What some people like me forget is that this site is a sitcoms site that pays tribute to the TV shows and is not per se a Lucy site, so maybe that's why we sometimes get very vocal about defending her. Also, this site has a lot more directness and bluntness, which while more interesting, sometimes pushes some people's buttons. Trouble is i sometimes see my friends come on here and attack each other when there's no need for that, but like i've said many times before, they should print the PM's, nobody would ever get bored. Of course, nobody would talk to one another either, LOL! There's nothing wrong with having different views, that can get very interesting, as long as we remember to be civil to one another. I myself am improving in that department, when recently attacked by someone, i confronted her but asked why she did it and made my case and now we are friends. And, isn't that why we're all here to talk about subjects we like with our friends?

And you do a great job of it too! I am on both sides of that fence, i don't see Lucy as perfect in any way, but definitely a one of a kind entertainer who really touched the world and is still a mentor to people 14 years after leaving this world, which is no mean accomplishment! When we find imperfections in her way of life, maybe we should remember that our lives aren't up for scrutiny like hers was, and also think that we're all human beings with flaws, although none of us will ever affect the world the way she did.

Exactly. We shouldn't be arguing about who loves Lucy more, or about who was better. Everyone in that cast made it work. Speaking of facts, if Lucille Ball herself were to read some of these threads dis-crediting Desi Arnaz, she'd be awfully upset and apalled. For those claiming how much they love Lucy and put down Desi at the same time, you'd better believe she wouldn't love you back! SO you can't possibly love Lucy if you don't love Desi and recognize all of his hard work and major decisions, because she spent her whole life trying to make the world realize how much of a hard worker and businessman he was. Lets just put our hands down, give the credit when it's due, and move on.;)

Well, that one's a toughie! She built him up in the eyes of the world so he wouldn't just be Mr Ball, she did the same thing for Gary, she didn't want either one to be held up to ridicule. But although she loved Desi with all her heart her whole life, you're wrong in only one area, Lucy was totally up front and honest and she would accept what we said if we made sure we balanced it all out. There are two sides to every story. Both of them had good and bad about them as we all do. On the Barbara Walters interview, full version, she says Desi was a loser, but she doesn't say it the way we understand that word today. She says whatever he built up, he had to eventually tear down, and said Desi would be the first one to say that was true. To see what he was capable of at the start of the fifties and yet become incapable of working at the end of the same decade is unbelievable. Then again, Hollywood is responsable for some of it, he fought in a hard industry for years and it made him sick, he tried to stay on top, but maybe for him the big thing was to prove that he could get beyond the names they were calling him and once he proved them wrong, he just gave up, the challenge dissapeared. Or it could be that the demons took over or even that Lucy wasn't the only one to be devestated by their marriage breakup. Maybe, the retiring, the losing his status, the not seing his kids all year and other factors played into it also. His daughter described him as an open wound, and we all know the mother had problems in that area also, maybe trying to live up to the image of the Ricardos was impossible to achieve and they naively thought they could do it, who knows?

Let me quote her better on that loser thing. She said he could win win win high stakes, but whatever he built up he had to tear down, that's what she meant by loser. Every comment she made about him, and she wasn't used to making them at this point in time, they were getting along so well after the divorce, talking on the phone practically every day and consulting each other about the kids all the time, that she made the effort to temper all her comments with a fair account, he was overly generous, but he had to lose and so on . . . so to get back to your original comment, i think both of them don't mind as long as we give both sides and try to be fair.

Yes, I agree with that, and there's one thing I wanted to say after reading that thread. Some people seem to think that, because we step up to defend Desi here and there, it means that we are somehow Lucy haters. Not so.

Personally, I am a fan of both Lucy and Desi and prefer to view the situation from both perspectives. I'm not going to look at one side of things and ignore the other. It wouldn't be fair to either of them.

People are so quick to throw stones at Desi, calling him a sleeze bag for cheating on his wife. I'll be the first to admit that cheating is a terrible thing, there's no excuse for it. NONE. But, as I've mentioned before, Lucy did the same thing. She dated a married man (and father-to-be) when she was first starting out in Hollywood and knew full well what she was doing. Call that Lucy bashing if you want, but I really don't think it is. I'm just stating the facts, trying to point out that neither one of them was perfect -- nobody is perfect, for that matter. So why continue to point out the flaws of one while ignoring the flaws of the other? And why do people seem to think that some of us are taking one side over the other? I'm not. I'm just trying to look at things objectively, that's all.

I'll have to say that Lucy was the biggest contributer to the humor on ILL, no doubt about it. But Desi was very funny in his own right. Someone in the other thread stated that the show would have been just as successful with Richard Denning as the husband. To that I say, no way! So many stories came out of the fact that Desi had a Cuban background. When it came time for the husband to scold Lucy, it wouldn't have been nearly as funny without that accent of Desi's and those eyes popping out of their sockets. Even his background in music and performing worked; it set the stage for Lucy to try to "get into the act." I've seen episodes from all three of Lucy's other shows. Still good tv, but there's something missing--and that something was Desi. He added sooooo much to that show. All four of 'em did.

THANK YOU! VERY WELL SAID!!

I love Desi because he was different on the show. It wouldn;t be the same if it was a normal American husband. I can't imagine ILL without his eye-popping Spanish rants and raves or his Spanish-tinged accent or his mispronunciation of words, or the way he acts like a father to Lucy and she responds with "Yes, sir", or all his songs that I know every word to (except the Spanish ones, haha), or the way he loves Lucy, or his big booming laugh, or the way he dances with his drum, or his handsome self altogether.
I could go on and on. I can't imagine ILL without Ricky Ricardo aka Mickey Richardson (haha).
Desi did a pretty good job not being crazy like Lucy huh? ;) He didn't have to act crazy.

We could argue that one all day. I think the show would have been just as successful with Denning because it was what Lucy did that made the show funny, though Desi's reactions to what she did were enhanced by his bug eyed look and especially his behind the scenes manouevers. If he had'nt produced, the show would have suffered, but the writers were the real geniuses with their brilliant dialogue and great situations that Lucy enacted perfectly. However, i am the first one to point out that Desi himself said she deserved 90 percent of the credit for the success of the show, and he's correct. Jess Oppenheimer added that if you remove Desi or Viv or the writers or any element of the show, the show suffers, but if you removed Lucy it dies. BUT, we all know that Lucy and Desi and Viv and Bill and the writers and everybody else made an excellent contribution to the show that became the most popular of all time. Why debate who was the most important, let's just be thankful all of them got together when they did. And for the last time both Lucy and Desi had qualities and faults, i always see both when thinking about either one.

Mkaleek
09-06-2003, 08:22 PM

No, though I do acknowledge her talent.

the only woman to own and run a studio
How sad that that was the case. I'm sure there were other women who would have been equally capable, but kudos to her for fighting against the grain and getting it done.

the four time Emmy winner
Congratulations Lucy, but I don't always agree with who wins those damn things, and it's not always a measure of the greatest talent.

film star
Hardly alone there!

Queen of Television
American television - speaking continentally, so that includes Canada! I assure you we have our own!

Kennedy Center Honoree, recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor
Very impressive, admittedly.

world reknowned

most beloved icon
Of you, and a lot of other people - but again there are a lot of other people who can lay claim to that title.

resident of The TV Hall of Fame
And congrats again, Lucy, but if there aren't others, sorry but there should be!

almost as popular now as she was when she left her mark on the medium that continually honors her as a pioneer and a visionary
Hugely popular still, yes, but again not alone there. There are people in TV, film, music, literature, art - all manner of fields who were visionaries, who were the first to do things, and are still as popular now as when they were blazing those trails

mother of two
Not alone there, thought it's an admirable thing.

wife of two
Again, not alone. My sister for one, and just about every woman in Hollywood. :)

benefactor to friends and family for decades, charitable, compassionate
A great, great thing, but she's not alone there either.

friend of Presidents
So were a lot of other people in Hollywood, most notably Bob Hope.

loved by Kings and Queens
Which ones? I doubt she'd oust Spike Milligan in the British queen's affection, but still, quite an achievement, granted - though not a unique one.

In some countries you just have to make a film in the neighbourhood and you get a stamp!

and saver of lives, as all the people who worship the ground she walks on admit their lives would have been exceedingly duller without her shining presence, from mentoring stars to being idolized by an adoring public
Lots of people save lives, for real. I take your point about the effect she had on so many people, and enriching lives with her work - but again, she's not alone in that.

Splain, you love Lucy, there's no denying that - but you can't expect everybody to feel the same way, or see things the same way! She did some terrific things, and she's obviously given something very special to you, and a lot of other people - but we're all different!

Well you know, women have been underused for so long, and rarely given the good scripts - so it's always hard to choose a favourite female actor/comedian, etc. You just don't know what they're capable of, because they so rarely get the stuff to work with that the men do. Plus you know, even today women are so often the straight men (as it were!) in sitcoms. When I think back to my favourite comedies, the women are rarely the funny ones! That's one of the reasons why I think Mad About You works so well. The laughs are split equally. Anyway, of all the comedy films that I've watched, Katherine Hepburn probably makes me laugh the most. Films like Holiday, Bringing Up Baby and The Philadelphia Experiment, for example. They outshine any of the films that Lucy made, IMHO. Granted she wasn't a comedian in the Lucy mold, but I do tend to prefer my comedy a little more subtle that Lucy's stuff. Who I would call my favourite, though, I don't know. I'd have to really think about that.

Splain, I understand the reason why you keep defending Lucy, and yes she has a list of terrific accomplishments, but so do a lot of other people. Most of us have somebody like that, that we've looked up to all our lives and put on a pedestal, and could write a great long list of achievements about. Other people just don't always agree! One of my great heroes is Freddie Mercury. At least you don't have to defend Lucy against homophobes and racists! :)

Seriously though, I know where you're coming from. I used to get mocked and even beaten up at school for the music I liked in preference to what was fashionable at the time. If I'd have told anybody I was a fan of ILL back then, though, they wouldn't have known what I was talking about, so I'd have escaped unscathed with that one! A girl at my school once saw me listening to my walkman, and asked what I was listening to. I said it was a Monty Python audio cassette, and she asked if they were a new rock band. Sigh...

It's good to know you're not swerved by the fashions of the time though. There's enough sheep in the world without risking becoming one yourself - and if they don't know good TV when they see it, screw them. Though not literally, obviously. :)

So for fear of getting banned i won't answer that last post. I will say that when you don't discuss Lucy, yours are always stimulating and very interesting posts. So let's go elsewhere, i agree that Mad About You evenly divided the laughs between it's major characters. Helen Hunt is an actress, not a comedienne, and both actors brought us a series that will forever be entertaining and REAL to me, but i never watched those DVD's, that show will not last the way I Love Lucy did. On Lucy, we had two REAL married people exaggerating married life and all it's aspects, Lucy's incredible talent as an actress and comedienne is just as brilliant as Helen's, but like Jess Oppenheimer said, Lucy could play a Queen or the lowest of the low and still make it believable, she was versitile and had these little bits in her comedy that you really have to watch closely to see them, actually i like the similarities in their styles, Helen and Lucy both became their characters and knew them better than anybody could imagine.

So Ideally you should understand as a "viewer" of the show, coming on to a board with enthusiastic admirers, you would surely come across people who are very determined that we will stand behiond our Lucy when people talk down about her or seemingly criticize. That would be like me going onto a Ringo Starr board or Gene Krupa board and talking about what I really don't like about drumming.

Okay, I could make a joke there about Ringo and drumming, but I won't bother.

Lucille, I keep saying that I understand Lucy has a lot of fans. And I understand that a lot of them hang out here. What I object to is that nobody seems to be prepared to respect my opinion, yet expect me to respect theirs (which I do). I don't particularly like Lucy's other work. I find Desi, on the whole, funnier than Lucy, and I do like some of his outside ILL work. Why do I have to keep defending this opinion, and being flamed by people who don't share it?

You keep talking about loving Lucy, and that's fine. But this is not just a Lucy board. It is an I Love Lucy board. That's a show. The board is also about the three other stars, the writers, the episodes, the plot lines, the songs, and everything else that made up the show. You do not have to just be a Lucy fan to come here, and I refuse to pretend that I love her as much as you lot do just to be welcome here.

How the hell did all this rubbish get started, anyway? I've been a member here since this time last year, and have said all along that I prefer Desi. Why's everybody suddenly on my case this last month?

Wow Mickey, you have alot of people getting kind of steamed with you. I like you though Mickey, but do you enjoy challenging people? The reason i ask is because you are basically the only person in this whole board who dosen't really like Lucy. Which brings me to my next question: Why do you post? Not in a rude way, I'm just curious. Please tell...

Because...and I will say this for like the 600th time...THIS IS NOT A LUCILLE BALL MESSAGE BOARD. It's I Love Lucy, so If you're a fan of any aspect of the show, post away.

Thankyou Mkaleek, and no, I do not especially like getting people steamed. If they were prepared to accept that I just happen to have a different opinion to them, they wouldn't get steamed.

Thanks Dawsongirl, smart move in this case! Why was it MESSED UP Jen? He never did name another comedienne, so i thought my suggestion was a SURE THING! Remember the argument i had with Amy, liking her OLD movies more than her shows, and i told her yeah, that's like saying you prefer Fred Astaire's singing to his dancing. Saying that Desi was funnier than Lucy, well, i'd better not even attempt to answer that one. As for the fact that this is an I Love Lucy board, point well taken, BUT, Lucy was the show, and it lasted 50 years because of her artistry and timing and talent, everybody around her HELPED, but it's lasted and we're all here talking about it because of HER! Ok that's it for me on that subject and i will try and not come close to it again. At least politically, he's astute! LOL!

SPLAIN

No Mickey, please don't leave, having different opinions is perfect for interesting debate. And i disagree with only one thing Dawsongirl, yes it's an I Love Lucy board, but she WAS that show, hence more discussion about HER and the reason why we get annoyed. Mickey, ask Dawsongirl why i'm here, you are not alone in having dissenting opinions on Lucy, but we have to allow the OTHER side a voice in this debate. Do you all remember when this place was DEAD? Well, it's lively now, and that's the way it should be, let's keep discussing and not get upset. Last night as i was listening to someone comment on Ball of Fire and praise Lucy as a visionary and great talent and the most popular woman in acting and so on, i thought of Mickey right away, and laughed uproariously. Let's remember that we're not curing cancer here, we're talking with like minded friends.

Personally, I think Desi had ALOT of funny classic moments in the I Love Lucy series. I think it was 50-50 between them, thats just my opinion. Lucy wouldn't have been no where near as good without his performances and his accent. He made it more universal. It just wouldn't have been as big. Thats just a fact.

okay, I don't think Desi was necessarily 'funnier' than Lucy, but I don't think Lucy was funnier than Desi. But I don't care who's the funniest, I still like Desi more! lol Why do we have to argue about these things?

Mkaleek
09-12-2003, 02:55 AM
I don't think it's arguments, I'm just stating actual facts. It would have been another Dick Van Dyke show, big, but not as big. You know, people get tired of seeing the same things over and over again from one person, and Desi Arnaz filled in that gap like no one else could have or ever could. He added so much variety it's ridiculous to even think about discrediting him in any way. I wouldn't pick who i like the most because that's also absurd. Come on, facts are facts. The Lucy Show-No Desi. It was successful, but no where near I Love Lucy. Bob Hope and Lucille Ball. Successful, but you'd better believe not as successful as Desi and Lucille. Of course Lucy was funnier than Desi, who's as funny as Lucy anyway??? We have to look at the facts here guys, it's not a matter of opinion.

Can I interject here? What difference does it make if someone has a personal disliking to someone or something, is there any real justification in dwelling on it and constantly resurrecting the disagreement, because it sounds to me that it looks like you are looking for a fight. So what, someone has a disliking to someone that you do, are you going to let them ruin it for you? I once had a friend who was just as crazy into a Tv Show as I was, then one day the friendship kind of took a dump, but that isn't going to stop me from watching it or enjoying the Tv Show.
It is one thing to stand up for what you beleive in, but this can be done without anyone hurting eachother or going to war with one another, God there is enough of that in the world already
If an argument has long been dead, why give rebirth to it?
I am a Democrat and a friend of mine is a die hard pro-Bush supporter and thinks he is the best president in the world. I Strongly disagree, but I m not gonna fuss and make a big deal out of it. Instead I will repect their point of view and they will respect mine and it remains a topic of taboo between us.
So I guess what I am trying to say here is you love Desi, that is good, I personally like Desi too. Some people don't. Some people like Gary better, and some don't like either, but that is their opinion, let them have it, they are entitled to it, if they want to rant and rave and make a big deal of it, then they are the small minded ones, but if you go out and say Lucille Ball is a bitch and the reason for the divorce and Desi is better than Lucy, you are just waving a red flag encouraging an argument. I am not saying you shouldn't post your feelings about something I just wouldn't use provoking words in it. Agree to disagree, and know when not to say certain things.

They're probably at the Lounge or wherever calling me a bitch because I tried to stop all the Lucy is better/no, Desi is fights. Just because someone likes Desi better than Lucy is no reason to call them out on it personally. So I said something and most of the pro-Lucy people left.

But then once upon a time I got called a bitch and other things for saying I was tired of ILL. Well excuse me...I didn't say I thought it sucked. I said I was tired. I've seen every ep like 199 times.

Who even cares? Is the world going to stop revolving if I decide I'm not as into ILL as I once was?? Does that automatically mean I have to hand in my Lucille Ball fanship card just because I've seen ever single ILL episode 200 times and feel like watching something else?

Well I think this whole thing has gotten way out of proportion over such a small matter.
Lucy Fan Hell? C'Mon get REAL! If you sin you go to the same place everyone else does.
I don't think there are any rules in being a Lucy Fan. Everyone has their own way in which they Love Lucy. Some follow heavy with conventions, some just watch the show, some intently watch the show and collect everything made in her image. There are no rules, and nobody can sit there and determine what kind of fan someone ele is just because they don't do what the other does. If someone has to sit there all day and detrmine how strong a fan everyone else is, they seriously need to get a life.

I started losing my baby teeth when I was 7yrs old so she's a year ahead; and yes tooth fairy but she's cheap only asks for a $1 a tooth:D
I couldn't get in MSN for nothing and had to run a Sasser check up and Ad aware, Spybot and the mother of all anti viruses to get rid of it:rolleyes:

Yes, I know that many people wish I was abducted by aliens; especially around here! :D  but they can't get rid of me that easy:p

Yeah, I'll prolly have to buy it online too. Our Walmart never has any..but thank heavens we're getting a SuperWalmart here. (biggest one in history they said too, don't know why they're putting it here in our tiny town!).

That's good about the Super Walmart! This town had a teensy one when I first moved in here. Bigger store creates more jobs and more $$. :D
