Aaaayyy! Great site...I found this about a month ago and LOVE it! Anyone else interested in the layout of the Cunningham house? I understand that the first 2 seasons they did not film with an audience, so the set more closely resembled a "real" house. Then the "new" house showed up in the third season along with the audience. BUT - does anyone else remember that the last few seasons showed their back yard right outsided of the kitchen door? This door USED to open up to the area outside of the garage where the trashcans sat at the bottom of the stairs that went up to Fonzie's apartment. From the backyard, the door appeared to go into their laundry room (you can see a peek of the washer on the last episode where Joannie & Chachi get married in the backyard). Also, Fonzie's apartment was backwards - if we were viewing in from the front side of the garage, his door should have been on the left of the set. When he went out of his apartment, he had to turn right and go down the stairs. If we were viewing his apartment from the back side of the garage, he would have actaully had to turn left outside the door to go down the stairs. Richie's room stayed the same, even though I think it was re-created for the episode where he came home from the army (last season) but they did a decent job. Joanie's room changed several times - when she got married, it was a totally new room than before.

Someday, I want to go to CA and drive by the REAL house used for the exterior shots.

Would love to hear everyone's thoughts on the good ol' Cunningham house.

Welcome clyde27! Yeah, there were many changes in the Cunningham house. I liked the first house, and I liked the filmed version. I hope someday to get to CA and snap a picture of the house too.

Im with Sheryl (AnimalCrackers)-- I like the old house and love how it was shot. I also plan on going to see the real house (along with the Brady Bunch house) someday!

I too have been very curious about the layout of the Cunningham house. Every door in the house seems to lead in the opposite direction from the room it is supposed to lead to... the garage should be to the right from the kitchen door, the stairs to Fonzie's apartment should go the other way, the stairway leading upstairs from the living room seems to go the wrong way, everyone of the bedrooms has the same orientation of doors and windows (indicating that they are all on the same side of the house). I can only come up with one scientific explanation for all of this. The Cunninghams live in an alternate dimension where space and time, and left and right have no meaning, and when all else fails, BLAME CHUCK...

The house used for exterior shots was once owned by 1930's screen siren Lupe Velez.
