Rafael Furcal, the shortstop for the Braves made an unassisted triple play. That is the first in the history of the Braves. It is only about the 12th in the history of baseball.

The Braves were playing the Cardinals. The Cardinals had men on 1st and 2nd. They put on a hit-and-run play. The batter hit a line drive to Furcal. He leapt high to catch it then ran to second to force the runner who had left for third. Then he ran down the runner who had come from first as he tried to run back to first. Three outs! Unassited triple play! Wow!

I remember seeing Randy Velarde of the A's pull of an unassisted triple play against the Yankees. It happened to fast and suddenly. I actually saw it when it happened.

The triple play is possible the rarest occurence in baseball. But in 1927, the trick was pulled off twice in two days.

This triple play happened a few minutes before I posted about it. The game is on ESPN. I've been watching the game. It's still on as I write this. It's 2 to 1 Atlanta leads in the bottom of the 7th. They just replayed the triple play.

Yeah, it was beaut but it would have been even better if the Braves could have pulled that one out. I questions Cox's move to let Ramirez go so far and not bring Gryboski in to face Pujols, considering he can throw that kunckle ball which is hard to get good lift on.
I wish the Braves could have pulled that one out. This is the first serious they've lost in a while and only the second homer Smoltz has given up all year I believe Hopefully this'll be the only lost in a line of many wins to come!

That warrants giddiness for any baseball fan.

I'm not sure who that was at either, but I'm a huge Atlanta fan. However, I won't be celebrating too much until October is over. I certainly hope they can pull this one out and there will be something to celebrate about.

I agree with Kitt though. I'd get 'giddy' even if I saw those dern Yankees turn an unassisted triple play. Doesn't happen everyday, bout every decade...
