View Full Version : Who was guaranteed a LAUGH, James or J.J?
TVFactFan 08-09-2003, 09:22 PM Everytime James open his mouth I knew something wild would come out.
James was the ganrunteed laugh for me.
Classic Quote
J.J was on the phone and Thelma wanted him to get off and she said daddy do something.
JAMES: "OK make it snappy NAPPY"-LOL

The guaranteed laugh is reading the lame points you make on these message boards.

Brian Damage 08-10-2003, 01:14 PM Let's face it, Jimmy Walker was the star of Good Times.

It's a shame Jimme was TOO DUMB to see that the producers were capitalizing on the fact that he was CRAZY LOOKING. And they knew if they made Jimmie MORE UNATTRCTIVE, people would get a kick out of how crazy he looked. I can't believe he would let the producers do that to him. That was Esther Rolle's and John Amos MAIN argument. Argiung that they made the J.J character MORE UGLIER and EVEN MORE STUPID.

He was DUMB enough to know he was the star of the show and became a national phenomenon of the 70's.

He became a STAR from being Physically Repulsive, not from Good Acting Skills.
Brian Damage 08-10-2003, 02:17 PM He became a star by being funny...something the lacked without him.

What do you mean WITHOUT HIM? Jimmie never left the show. Now when Amos left, that's when the HUMOR was gone.
Brian Damage 08-10-2003, 02:38 PM I mean if JJ ever left the show...Good Times wouldn't have been as funny. He was the star.

Ugly comes in all forms, Sit. I have no idea what you look like on the outside, but you're obviously very ugly on the inside. Your grammar could use some improvement too. The term "MORE UGLIER" makes YOU sound "MORE STUPID" than usual. Take a look at yourself before you judge others so harshly.

laneyday 08-25-2003, 06:35 PM I agree with you Sitcom Analyzer, James to me was it for me. All he had to do was that laugh of his or glare at JJ and I was on the floor. JJ most of the time was too silly and I mostly just rolled my eyes where he was concerned.;)
laneyday 08-25-2003, 06:43 PM note to brain damage...oh I'm sorry brian damage and gee bee or is it supposed to be bee gee (the singing group)? You both tell Sitcom Analyzer to stop criticising (did I spell that correctly, dear) but you do the very same thing. Practice (or is it practise...or maybe praktiss) what you preach.:D :rotflmao:
Lady T 08-25-2003, 06:46 PM I thought they were both funny but in different ways, so comparing JJ and James is kinds comparing apples with oranges, personally I liked James sense of humor more, it was more dry and real, while JJ tend to go over board sometimes:)
Mr. Television 08-25-2003, 06:49 PM JJ was definately the funnier, but the show wasn't the same after James died. The show needed both of them.
laneyday 08-25-2003, 07:15 PM Right On! mr. roper.
GeeBee 08-26-2003, 07:15 PM Yep. When people are asked to name some of the funniest men on television, one name that inevitably comes up every time is John Amos as James on Good Times.

Jefffalan 09-26-2004, 04:33 PM John Amos was excellent as James Evans, and he was funny in a completely different way than Jimmie Walker's J.J. What is really interesting is that what the writers as well as John Amos failed to realize is that the characters NEEDED each other. They had more chemistry than most of the other characters on the show. James' serious glares and bad temper pERFECTLY complimented J.J.'s childish antics. In a way, they were each other's perfect foil. It's a shame no one really saw this. Just My Opinion. Thanks!

I defintely agree, i think the James/J.J scenes was the most classic memories of the show.

I defintely agree, i think the James/J.J scenes was the most classic memories of the show. John Amos' character was the polar opposite of JJ's character; and their interaction was what made their scenes together funny.

The only time James wasn't funny was when he was in scenes with Thelma

The only time James wasn't funny was when he was in scenes with Thelma I agree; James was always very serious when he was with his daughter.
knl9674 09-27-2004, 01:04 PM James is a guaranteed laugh.
JJ became annoying to me after season 3. The novelty had worn off.
He had some great one-liners and punch lines.
Sweet Daddy: Hey baby, what's up with the hostile attitude?
James: That ain't no AT-T-TUDE. I'm hostile!
LOL
I'm so sick of certain posters getting snotty with other posters or taking EXTREME offense to a person's position.
GEE BEE, GEE BEE, GEE BEE, GEE BEE, GEE BEE, GEE BEE, GEE BEE
And please note that all of your comebacks are absolutely lame.
When was the last time you started a thread? At least people are taking the time to bring up points/issues that people are interested in. All you do is wait in the background, criticism and pointless jabber ready, and decide to post.
I thought I'd taught you a lesson a few weeks ago. But it seems like school is back in session.
Back to topic: James Evans. Without a doubt.
GARFIELDKOOL 09-27-2004, 02:24 PM James was funny in a lot of ways and he didn't try to be funny. J.J. wasn't funny and he tried too hard.
