View Full Version : The Whine and Complain Thread- Computers
Krisalicious 08-08-2003, 01:49 PM Anytime your computer is doing something strange, or going slow, or something's not working...anything computer related that's getting you mad, let it all out here.
Okay here's my story. So it was pretty late at night...around the usual time I go to sleep. And I was seriously about to turn off my computer when suddenly this box thing pops up from Norton Antivirus saying something that nearly killed me. "Norton Antivirus has detected a virus on your computer." I was so scared. I mean imagine if something happened to all my files...especially since I have a really important thing on there for school that I've been working on since last month. So first, I tried to find the virus on my computer myself, like actually searching for the file name and stuff. Then I decided to run Norton Antivirus. I did a full computer scan and it took about an hour, and I was already really, really tired since it was later than I go to sleep. So I wait for the thing to finish and when it finally does, my computer had no viruses. Uh? The thing nearly killed me by saying it had one. So then I looked up the virus reports log in Norton and it said when it found the virus and what it was and where it was located. So then I decided to scan that folder where it was, and that took pretty long too. Not as long as the whole computer...this probably took like 15 or 20 minutes. Then after it was done, it still said I had no viruses. So after trying to fix it the whole entire night, it was almost six in the morning and I was so tired. So then I just decided to get my dad to help. He was wondering why I was up so early since I'm usually not up til about 12...so then he checked it out and when I told him I scanned it for viruses and looked around for it and Norton still said I didn't have one, he then figured out that when the box popped up, it most likely meant that a virus was trying to attack me, but Norton blocked it and protected my computer.
:livid:  So yeah...after staying up the whole entire night and being exhausted (I still am), my computer is okay.
Okay had to get that out. Now feel free to share anything.
¤I Love Clay Aiken¤ 08-08-2003, 02:08 PM *kicks computer and throws it out window* That is for all the times I accidently shut it down, got disconnected, froze, wouldnt start, and for just being a pain in the :grady:!!!!
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 08-08-2003, 02:37 PM My computer, the frickin new flat screen piece of junk is the slowest thing I've ever come across. It's supposed to be fast and all that "blah blah blah" but it's not and it drives me crazy. And since I'm not very patient, I hate waiting lol. Grr *hauls chair at computer*
Small Wonderian 08-08-2003, 02:43 PM my computer is slow at times and pops up a lot of blue screen error messages often :(
PaulaAbdulFan 08-08-2003, 03:04 PM i got on aim and it kicked me off..so i got back on..it kicked me off again..so i got back on and it kicked me off again. AHHH
well i eventually got it to let me stay on after about the 40th time of being kicked off!
PashminaDietrich 08-08-2003, 08:30 PM Oh, I've had all of that with mine: freezing up at the worst possible time, slower than January molasses, blue screen warnings for no apparent reason, an occasionally schizo modem that dumps my internet connection just for the sheer heck of it. Oh, and here's a new one: I just turn the computer on, open AOhHell and RealJukebox, open up a short playlist so I can listen to something while I'm surfin', and wouldn't you know the dang thing says "Not enough memory." Now, mind you, I've only got two programs open; I've even run a game along with the net and the tunes and everything's worked fine. But sometimes, it comes up with this "Not enough memory" jazz and I'm very tempted to take the damn thing on a nice unscheduled trip out the nearest window... :wallbang
Krisalicious 08-09-2003, 01:47 AM Ugh. Yeah maybe my computer might be "virus free" but theres definitely something wrong with it. It just went insane so I restarted it. Everytime I opened something it would open it again like 10 more times. Sigh...maybe I need to delete some things from it.
PZelda 08-09-2003, 02:30 AM OMG....I was having this really annoying dialup problem...I got Kazaa Lite but deleted it the next day. After deleting Kazaa, it made my computer go crazy... It kept reconnecting me to the 'net, even tho I didn't have anything in internet properties that was checked "automatically reconnect" and it would also add adult site bookmarks to My Favorites. :o It also added ISTBar...
Long story short, I had to go to a special tech support board that dealt specifically with problems like mine - I had a tech support guy walk me through the steps for two hours - hey, I'm on dialup and he had me download something that helped me get rid of the worm from Kazaa that I had. FINALLY - it worked! Now my computer doesn't reconnect me! :p
Brian 08-10-2003, 08:58 PM I need a new mouse that doesn't have a ball in it. The one I have right now is driving me nutzoid.
Sean Snow 08-10-2003, 09:41 PM Argh. Evil modem. It wouldn't connect to AOL twice today. In both cases I had to restart before it would work. Oh well. Hopefully it's just choosing today to go insane.

Well, not only am I seeing little pixies, Ive this error thing pop up on me THREE times this week (twice today :cuss: ) and it said to save everything because it would shutdown on me- and then a countdown would start. My Dad said I did something to it. How dare I be accused of doing something to it, even if I did.:o WHY IS THIS THING POPPING UP?!
¤I Love Clay Aiken¤ 08-11-2003, 01:54 PM ITS DOIBT IT NOW!!
MaydayMalonesGirl 08-11-2003, 05:07 PM oh dont even get me started with my computer! i complain about it alllllll the time . i have dsl and so its supposed to work better and stuff but instead it kicks me off every 5 minutes.
JDS84 08-11-2003, 07:01 PM I hate our internet provider. Everytime I connect it disconnects me. Tonight it has only kicked me off once.
PaulaAbdulFan 08-11-2003, 07:58 PM every time someone calls my house i get kicked OFF!
dawsongirl 08-12-2003, 04:19 AM .wmv files suck!!!! And my burner won't burn them. Then the converter I bought just sat there!
Max Whittaker 08-12-2003, 06:29 PM Computers are so expensive! I need a new one. Expensive! I hate money!!!!
I mean, really, why do they make you spend upwards of 1000 dollars on a piece of worthless junk that will only have to be replaced with a newer model of junk in little more than a year!?!

I'm not sure if you have it fixed now, but I'll post this from the *BREAKSDOWN* thread you made about your comp... This will tell you what you need to do to get rid of the msblaster.exe worm you have (that's what is causing your comp to crash). :)
Dear Charter Customer:
As you may have heard on the news, many Internet users are experiencing problems with their computers shutting down abruptly. This is not a problem with Charter Pipeline service. It is the result of a computer vulnerability and is being experienced by computer users around the world. It is due to a computer worm that scans computers checking to see if port 135 is open. If so, the worm takes advantage of the computer and shuts it down.
If your computer has not been infected, you should go to one of the web sites shown below to update your anti-virus software or install a patch to prevent infection.
Here is a Microsoft bulletin regarding this vulnerability:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/security_bulletins/ms03-026.asp
Here is an update from Symantec:
http://www.sarc.com/avcenter/security/Content/8205.html
Here is an update from McAfee:
http://us.mcafee.com/virusInfo/default.asp?id=description&virus_k=100547
If your computer becomes infected and gets shut down, you will need to follow these steps (you may want to print them for future reference):
Unplug modem.
Restart computer.
Go to Start / Search / For Files and Folders.
Confirm that Look in is set for C: drive.
Search for files and folders named: "MSBLAST.exe"
When computer finds the msblast file(s), right click on the file names and delete all copies of the file.
Shut down the machine.
Plug the modem back in.
Restart the machine.
Go directly to one of the web sites above and install the patch and/or update.
Please do not reply to this email. It is for informational purposes only.
Sincerely,
Charter Communications
Good luck! Oh, before you start to search for msblaster.exe, be sure you Ctrl + Alt + Delete first, go to the Processes tab (2nd one from left), look for "MSBLASTER.EXE" in the list, then shut it down. Just click "yes" when it asks you if you're sure you want to shut it down. Then, go search for it and BE VERY SURE YOU EMPTY YOUR RECYCLE BIN BEFORE YOU SHUT DOWN. I can't stress how important that is. :)

I hear ya. :crying: I need a new one and am buying a laptop (maybe) with my graduation money I got back in May and my 18th b-day money that I know I'm going to get. It'll be a huge jump from what I currently have - 467MHz, 184MB RAM, 10GB HD. It runs pretty fast, tho, so I'm not complaining. But, I REALLY need a new comp so I can save all my stuff on it. :p
dawsongirl 08-12-2003, 09:29 PM I ran out of memory. RAN OUT.
Now the comp won't do anything. And it gave me a warning in German.
And I can't afford another one!!!
Krisalicious 08-15-2003, 11:25 AM I don't like XP. I used to think it went slow at times because I was running out of memory...but I still actually have a lot of memory. I'm pretty sure I know why things take awhile to load. It's because on XP there are 30498239489238492843928439324 things running at the same time, but the only ones I can see are the ones at the bottom of the screen. And if I try to end one of the processes it gives me this warning and any warnings scare me so I just let it stay...Windows 2000 (ME) was never like this...

Yea, I usually have 30 processes going at once, at least...
Note: Windows 2000 and Windows ME Are 2 different operating systems...
Dude111 07-10-2025, 01:57 AM I hate it when it locks up for no reason!
Im sittin' there browsing a site and it just freezes.....Sometimes I can press ctrl-alt-del and reboot it but sometimes I have to hold power button and wait till it goes off, then press it again......
I guess all of us have lock up issues........ (Regardless of the OS)
GoldenTV 07-10-2025, 10:50 PM I guess all of us have lock up issues........ (Regardless of the OS)
I never had a lockup since upgraded to new computer with Window 11 OS. If you are still running Win98 Second Edition, it will not have adequate RAM or speed and performance to run some of todays Apps, and that is why it is locking up on you. It is like trying to carry a one Ton load on a 1/2 Ton Truck. It is not going to happen :)
Dude111 07-11-2025, 01:16 AM I hear ya buddy..........
I know she has memory issues.. when we got this in 2000 I beloieve it was abused by the ppl who had it before.. (A computer repair shop)
It wasnt in my room then,it was in my parents.......
However I am grateful we got this one..... (I wouldnt want a newer os)
