OK, this is going to be pretty long, but I'm hoping that all of you computer buffs out there can help me out...BTW, I'm on a Gateway

PROBLEM #1
Sometimes, when I turn the computer on, it does normal black screen with the green letters for "Gateway" and the cow-colored box. Then, instead of going to the "Windows" screen, it goes to a black screen. Then a small gray bar begins to flash in the upper lefthand corner. And that's all that happens. The computer never comes on. I also want to mention that the modem makes this very VERY VERY annoying tune while this is happening. It sounds kinda like "doo doo duh duh DUH DUH!" What is going on?

PROBLEM #2
Sometimes, right when I log on to the Internet, I get this message all the time. You know how Chris reported that message he always got when he logged on to AIM? Well it's the same message but when I click "Close," something strange happens to my taskbar. It basically freezes. I can't click start, I can't click the bars, and even the time stands still. This has been one of the major problems lately. What is going on?

PROBLEM #3
Every single time I try download a song or video, that message comes up. And when I click "Close" the task bar goes away, with the bottom of the background in its place. Then it comes back, with the bars in different orders. It this happens like every five seconds while I'm trying to listen to the song. And then, the "doo doo duh duh DUH DUH" sound comes from the modem, and the song I'm listening to continuosly freezes and repeats. Say if I'm listening to the "Three's Company" theme song it would go like this: "Come and........knock on our d-d-d-d-oor-r-r-r, we've.........been....waiting f-f-f-f-for.......you" and it is VERY VERY annoying. Even when I open Realplayer seperatly, to listen to the songs I have saved, the same thing happens. What is going on?

PROBLEM #4
This is a relatively new problem I've been having. When there is nothing coming through the speakers, they make this annoying AM radio-like sound. Kinda like a "buzz." I'm also having a similar problem with the mouse. Whenever I move the mouse, some strange sound comes from the speakers. What is going on?

PROBLEM #5
Sometimes the "doo doo duh duh DUH DUH" sound happens while I'm doing normal things on the Internet like reading posts, or in this case, typing posts, and the computer freezes for like 45 seconds. It has already happened 4 times I am typing this post. What is going on?

PROBLEM #6
When I turn it on, and it does work, this blue screen comes up and it has a lot of stuff on it that I don't understand, and this green loading bar starts to load at the bottom, and one time I accidently hit the ENTER key and it loaded extra fast and went on to the Windows screen. What is going on?

PROBLEM #7
This is another long-running problem. When the background and such loads up on the screen when you turn the computer on, that message that says "This program has conducted illegal....etc etc" comes on the screen, and the title bar at the top says "Atiptaaa" and then after I hit "close" nothing happens. Then the same exact message comes up, but the title bar says "Winktmb" instead. I hit "close" and nothing happens. What is going on!?

PROBLEM #8
My background is gone. The Clouds background that I had is gone. There is now a plain black background. What is going on?

PROBLEM #9
I don't have SoapNet.......wait....that's another subject...

Anyway, these problems have been going on for months and months and probably even a year. Please, this is REALLY REALLY annoying me and I don't understand what is happening to the computer. We've had it since November 1998, and what do you know, the "doo doo duh duh DUH DUH" thing is happening right now, again. But anyway, PLEASE help me out PLEASE

Sounds to me like you need to invest in a new computer.

Do a virus scan :).... Even if you have no computer problems do a virus scan... Always good to know that there is no viruses ;)

i dunno i would take it and get it checked out though.

if something at startup says

Mircosoft Runtime C++ Error

then back up everything you can't easily replace and take it to get it checked out as soon as possiable. That is an error in the key programing and it will wipe your harddrive if you leave it to long

There's a free virus scanner...

If you want a real realiable one.. You can try the demo of Norton Anti Virus (Its big though)... (Its available at download.com) Once you download a virus scanner make sure to update the virus defs...
