Do any of you know whether Vanessa Bryant is white, or black? The reason I ask is because I was chatting with a friend last night discussing the Kobe Bryant case, and she told me that Kobe's wife is black. This surprised the heck out of me because I have seen many pictures of her, and she always looked white to me. I told my friend she may be half black, but she's definitely not 100 percent black, but she insisted that she is. I looked at her picture a bit more, and she still looks white to me. Can anyone end this little disagreement between me and my friend? Is Vanessa Bryant white, black, Hispanic, or what? Thanks!

I think she is Hispanic because of her name, Vanessa Cornejo Urbieta Laine.

Oh, so that is her full name huh? I told my friend she looks like she might be part Hispanic, so that definitely doesn't surprise me. Thanks for the info!

LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT
IT was love at first sight for Kobe Bryant when he met Vanessa Laine.
That was three years ago when the NBA star, who likes rap and videos, stopped by a music video shoot where Vanessa was a background model.
Bryant had said: 'She was just it... she's just the one.'
Vanessa was then only 18 and in school. When Bryant, then 21, announced that he was marrying Vanessa, TV vans and helicopters flocked to Vanessa's school.
She had completed advanced math classes and was working as a teacher's aide. But the engagement put an end to her studies. Instead of a school bag, the teen toted a 7-carat US$100,000 ($176,180) diamond ring!
News of the impending marriage got everyone buzzing. Some commentators felt that the couple were too young take such a serious step.
Others were upset that Bryant had chosen a non-African-American woman to be his bride. The Chicago Tribune noted that Vanessa was half Mexican-American and half White.
Bryant's parents did not approve of his new love but he went ahead and married Vanessa in April 2001.
The Orange County Register reported that the marriage took place under a heart-shaped arch with red rose petals strewn on the floor. It was a private affair and only about 12 people were present.
It was only recently that Bryant and his parents mended their rift. Vanessa gave birth to their first child, Natalia Diamante Bryant, in January this year.
Bryant credited his new-found maturity to Vanessa. A year after marriage, he said: 'It changes you; when you're secure at home, you have someone who is going to ride with you in the good times and the bad times, that you can score zero and have everything still be cool.
'My teammates see it - I've just been a happier person. My patience used to be like this - tiny. You mess up a diagram play and I'll snap, but now I'm more relaxed.' - Wire services.
