Does anyone here watch Frasier? I wanted to like the show because I love the character on Cheers, but Frasier never really interested me that much. I stopped watching regularly when Wings went off the air. It's still funnier than a lot of the garbage that has come out in recent years though.

Frasier may be the more popular, award winning, critically-acclaimed show, but I'll take Wings any day.

Snoopy, I'm a big fan of Frasier. Actually you could say I'm a big fan of Kelsey Grammer. But I've always loved the character of FRASIER and then when the show started they had such a great cast with Jane Leeves and David Hyde Pierce etc...and the writing was so good that I liked it from the start.

Being that the creators of Wings (Casey, Lee, Angell) were the ones that created Frasier it was no wonder I liked it. I always wondered how much it hurt the continuity of Wings when they started working on Frasier because it's hard to do two TV shows at once. Even though I know people like David Kelly have done that.

I thought Frasier dropped off a bit last season, and I'm actually glad this will be the last year because I think they have run out of things to do with the characters, but like you said, even a poor Frasier episode is better then 95% of the rest of TV.

Frasier is one of the few shows I watch on a regular basis. I didn't start watching it from the beginning because I'll admit, I'm not really a Cheers fan. I just could never get in to that show. So I figured Frasier would be similar. When Frasier started winning all the Emmys, I figure I'd check it out. I haven't watched all the episodes from last season(wasn't the whole Niles' heart condition last season?), but the episodes I do watch, I still laugh at them, even if they aren't as good as previous years. I'm going to try to watch all of next season, with it being their last season.:) :D :talk:

I've never actually watched the show until I started watching the reruns of it once in a while that are on at 12 AM, while I was waiting for Wings to come on at 1. And it is a good show. It's pretty funny. But I still haven't really gotten into it enough to watch it regularly.

I don't think Frasier is really a bad show. It has some really funny moments. I just can't seem to get into it though. I'm weird, I guess :D

Anyone else have that problem with certain TV shows?

I have never been able to get into Frasier either, although I do like Cheers. I will probably watch the final episode though. The shows I watch usually guest star one of the cast from Cheers.:happyface

I love Cheers too, although I greatly prefer the Rebecca years. I don't like the Diane years too much.

I'm at a point where I kind of like "Cheers", but it's not a show I go around saying how great it was. I don't go to the Cheers messageboard. I did buy season one on DVD and plan to buy the rest. However, I prefer the Diane-Coach years.

As for "Frasier", I've only seen a couple episodes. And like Krista said, it was (or should I say is) a funny show, but I don't watch it regularly. I didn't buy the DVD. I think Kelsey Grammer is a nice guy and I wish him the best of luck in his Post-"Frasier" years.

Now ask me about "NewsRadio", I'll go on and on for days.

No seriously, I will.;)

Yeah, Cheers is cool. for a while I was watching it every night on N@N, but then I kind of got bored with it. but I still watch it once in a while.
I like the Rebecca years better then the Diane years too. lol. I thought Rebecca was much funnier. Diane had some funny lines like when she would say things like, "Go mate with a squid!" to Sam when he ticked her off. But I usually found her kind of annoying. but that's just my opinion. :D

I think "Frasier" is hilarious, and it's one of the only shows that I like that's still on...usually I'm watching reruns of other shows (like "Wings"!). But I haven't watched "Frasier" this past season, except for a couple episodes, which were still pretty funny, but not as fun as previous seasons. I think it's becoming more clear that it's almost time for the show's run to come to an end, though it was a great run.

lol I love all of the Cheers years...lol all eleven seasons. Though I must say that Diane Chambers(as you can see from my user name) is my favorite character. Her and Sam are my two favorite then Rebecca comes right under there. Rebecca is really funny too...but the thing was Ted Danson and Shelley Long have incredible on screen chemistry, and they just have ridiculously funny moments together.Rebecca was just funny to watch...she would make such a fool of herself without anyones help

I always liked Kirsty Alley's comedic timing and delivery. I thought she was really funny, but Ted and Shelly did have great chemistry together, kind of like Tim and Crystal.

I've always wondered what the Wings creators would have done if Crystal had left the show after 3 or 4 seasons before she and Joe were married? You know they would have added someone to the cast to create some kind of a love interest for Joe or Brian. But in my opinion Crystal would have been very hard to replace. It just woudn't have been the same without Helen.

Krista2882

that's interesting... I mean, I haven't seen THAT many episodes of Cheers, so maybe I'm missing something, but I never really felt like Ted Danson and Shelley Long had that much on-screen chemistry... hhmmm... I'll have to watch for that the next time I see the show. But it wasn't something that I ever really thought was that noticeable.
Not like the on-screen chemistry that Tim Daly and Crystal Bernard have on Wings... now that's something that always jumped out at me ever since I started watching the show.

It's funny how a Frasier thread quickly turned into a Cheers thread. hehe

OH!, and T-man (hehehe)-- you said you've always wondered what would have happened if Crystal left Wings before Helen and Joe got married... oh man, I would have freaked out! haha. I still would have kept watching the show, but the Joe and Helen thing- their chemistry together and their relationship is one of my favorite things about the show, and without that, it would have been seriously lacking, in my opinion. Plus, Helen IS one of my favorite characters, so the show would definatley been missing something without her.

If you ever get a chance to check out the DVD of the first year of Cheers you should, and then you'll see what I mean about Ted and Shelly. Ted and Shelly really didn't get along that well off the set acording to many reports, but on camera, the chemistry is truly there. It wasn't a real strong sexual chemistry, like Crystal and Tim had, but they had real good comedic timing and acting chemistry that is pretty rare.

Wings got put down by the critics quite a bit for using the same formula as Cheers used with Sam and Diane saying Wings did the same as far as the Helen and Joe relationship went....you know starting with having an attraction for each other but not acting upon it, then getting them together as a couple, only to quickly break them up, and then having the characters act like they don't really care about each other anymore in that way, when they obviously do. I thought it was a silly criticism, but technically it was the same formula as far as the characters of the show.

And YES, I could not imagine Wings without Crystal at all. I thought Shelly Long made one of the worst decisions any actress ever has when she left Cheers. But I'm just thankful Crystal didn't decide to pursue her music career full time and leave Wings early. Imagine if she had left after season 4, and pulled a Thomas Hayden Church? Not only would the show have lost all the great work she did with Tim Daly, but there were so many great things the Helen character brought to the show on her own......like her biting sarcasm, and how it was so fun to watch this pint sized 5'3" little thing get physical with people and throw them around. :D Nope, I really don't think they ever would have been able to replace Crystal. The show would have never been the same.

In the earliest "Alex Lambert" episodes, it seems like they're trying to create a new love interest for Joe. There's a certain chemistry there between Joe and Alex....a very DIFFERENT kind of chemistry than what Joe and Crystal had, but a chemistry nonetheless.
Don't forget, before she started dating Brian, Joe and Alex shared a steamy kiss or two themselves....but I don't think that a "Joe and Alex" relationship would have had the staying power of a "Joe and Helen" relationship!

Please help refresh my memory....I haven't seen this "Cheers" episode in years, but there was an episode (after Shelley had left the show) where Norm, Cliff, Frasier and Woody go to a drive-in movie to watch some old Japanese sci-fi film (one of those "Godzilla"-type films)......

They're sitting in the car watching the film and Norm is an expert on this particular Japanese sci-fi series of films....He's pointing out the various actors on the screen and says about one actress, "She didn't apprear in any more of these after this one"...and Woody innocently asks, "Who in their right mind would leave a successful series right in the middle of it?"

It was done as a "throwaway" line, but it was HILARIOUS!

DianeChambers87
08-11-2003, 12:50 PM
Yeah that's how the Godzilla line went where woody ends up asking

Woody: Why would an actress leave a hit series like that?

Frasier: (shrugs) who knows...

lol...I'm getting more into Wings and Joe and Helen do have sexual tension and good chemistry......and I hate to come here and post a different opinion than one posted but I have to say that Joe and Helens sexual tension doesn't compare to Sam and Dianes......it was just insane...you know? If you have never seen the first 5 seasons and not so much the first season because they are just kind of flirting but the 4 other ones....the chemistry and sexual tension is amazing. I can't really explain it that well, you would have to watch an episode from the 2, 3, 4, or 5 season...and what I mean by insane is that well they would drive each other to insanity...at one point the Diane character checked into an asylum because of Sam (hence she meets Dr. Frasier Crane), Sam tried to kill her once...well actually there were a lot of times where I thought that he was going to kill her....but this one time he did try and she had him arrested....

I watched every season of Cheers and know the show quite well. I think both Ted and Shelly and Tim and Crystal had great chemistry. I think the Tim and Crystal "sexual" chemistry was stronger. (I really believed they were in love) but there is a lot that goes into the chemistry of actors and characters besides the sexual chemistry. But either way, both were very good together.

Krista2882
08-11-2003, 02:30 PM
yeah, on Cheers, Sam and Diane had sexual tension. I agree with that. but what I was talking about is chemistry that sometimes happens between two actors that work together. and personally, I never noticed that on Cheers between Ted and Shelley. But I think I may have to see more episodes.
On Wings, Crystal and Tim, as actors, or as people, or whatever, had a chemistry between them, and it showed in their acting together on the show.
and when you talk about two actors having a chemistry together, sometimes it's as simple as them being able to work together really well, and feed off of each other.
and then sometimes it's like what you have with Tim and Crystal- They worked together really well, and there seemed to always be a spark between them onscreen. Now I always wondered if, when that happens, if there is some kind of attraction to each other in real life. I'm not an actor, so I have no idea about this, but it just seems like for two people to have such a spark between them while working onstage, it must come from somewhere! I'm not saying there was something going on between Tim and Crystal, so please don't take it that way, because I know Tim was and is married. But you know, you just kind of wonder if there really was some sort of attraction between them in real life, because it seemed so real between them on screen as Joe and Helen. But I'm NOT saying they acted on it or anything!
On "Farscape", two of the actors on that show- Ben Browder and Claudia Black have this amazing onscreen chemistry. and I remember one time on the Farscape message board, someone said that they wondered if there was some real-life attraction between them, and people on the board jumped down his throat saying "how could you say that? Ben is happily married!!... you should have more respect for them then to think that they would act on some onscreen chemistry, when one of them is married! ...blah blah blah..." lol and stuff like that.
So I want to just make sure you all know i don't mean any disrespect to Tim or Crystal. I don't want anyone jumping down my throat! lol. But I know you guys are too nice to do that anyway :)

geez!! this thing took me about 40 minutes to type. it all of a sudden got really busy at work!

Since both "Cheers" and "Wings" are in the same TV Universe, they should do a big reunion with all the surviving cast members of both shows. Everyone would hang out at the bar and just talk. There would be no plot at all.

Just my opinion (and I know that they're all fictitious sitcom characters).....but I've always felt that even if Sam and Diane HAD gotten married, it wouldn't have lasted....they would have ended up splitting up or killing each other!

On the other hand, even though Joe and Helen may bicker back and forth, and sometimes get really MAD at each other, I've never doubted that they would stay together....their love just seemed so STRONG.

I guess that that's MY difference with the two sets of couples!

I think Ted and Shelley had great chemistry and Diane and Sam used to be one of my fav. tv couples. I eventually got tired of the back and forth bickering and other stuff. I think if Shelley hadnt' left Sam and Diane probably wouldn't have stayed together.

Now IMO Tim and Crystal have a hotter chemistry, kinda like Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore had, that there seems to be a mutal attraction and a spark(that I know they would never act on) but you can tell it's there. Not that many actors have that special chemistry together.

You can tell Joe and Helen loved each other even when not together. :)

I didn't think Sam and Diane had much chenistry at all. Of course, I'm one of those people who thought the show got much better when Rebecca came on. (Not that it wasn't a good show before!) I think Frasier and Lilith are the best couple on Cheers. I was so pissed when they got divorced (probably another reason why I don't like watching Frasier all that much).

Joe and Helen are one of my favorite TV couples.

As for the Sam and Diane relationship, the first season when it was working up to something, I thought they'd be good for eachother. But the first episode of the second season, once they actually got together, then I didn't see them as being right for eachother.

However, it was the exact oppsite for Joe and Helen. I thought they weren't right for eachother in the beginning, but once they started going out, then I thought they were great together.

So basically, I agree with what Pilotguy said about them getting married.

But, anyways, "Frasier" .....

I don't know...I guess it's just me ... I thought they were the most perfect couple ever....certainly the most funniest.....lol...Joe and Helen are right up there....but .....sometimes I find the dialogue a bit corny....between them I don't mean wings in general...just between Joe and Helen
