One of my dogs Ebony has been laying down. Anyways, I just noticed when I called her that she wont move. Her left front leg is like.. dangling and she wont step on it. What happened to it?! I mean, theres only so much that couldve happened to it between this room and outside. Im home alone because my parents went up to Maine and wont be home til tonight. I cant call the vet because we have house-call and I dont know the number for it. Could it just be a sprain? I swear all my dogs have issues.

Yesterday my neighbours dog fell on a broken bottle and cut it's leg- it must've taken a while before anyone found out, cos I was walking back to my house and saw pools of blood near the bottle- so it must've lay down in pain first for a while. Anyway she wrapped it in a blanket and brought it to the vet. It's got stitches but it's fine now.
I really hope your dog is ok- but have you tried the online yellow pages to find your vet's number? If I can I'll do a diagnosis check. How many dogs do you have? Maybe one put it on a doggy paralysis grip and hit it in the leg, but seriously you should get it checked out-it's really easy for dogs to hurt their legs- especially when they know how to reach the top of the kitchen table.

Thanks.:) I dont even know my vets name.:bonk: I have 4 dogs and they all seriously have their own problems lol. I have one chihauhua (sp!), 2 chihauhua mixes (1 of them being Ebony) and one Golden Ret./German Shepherd. The best conclusion I could come up with is she maybe tripped walking up the steps and hurt her leg. She can walk now, I forced her to get up and go outside for a minute, but she hopped. My Dad will have to call the vet when they come home.

Maybe one of the other dogs bit it. My dog did that to the cat and she was walking funny.

This may be a dumb question, but did you look at the leg? Maybe check and see if there are any scrapes or marks under the fur, or check for thistles on the foot. Sometimes dogs get them stuck in between the pads on their feet.
I don't like to hear about animals in pain, because they have no way of telling us what is wrong, poor things.

I never did look at it up close because I didnt want to make her nervous, but I will now.


Well, I really cant tell. She let be touch it all around without getting jumpy or anything. Her paw looked good too. Whenever she stands up, she keeps it bent and tries not to put a lot of pressure on it. Yah, I hate to see animals in pain.

Yeah, it sounds like a sprain then. But don't take my word for it because I'm not a vet. Hopefully that is all it is!

Good luck! Yah, me too. I mean, theyre constantly running up and down the steps to go outside, and sometimes they slip up one. She also jumps up in this chair a lot, so she mightve sprained it jumping down off it. Anyways, thank you again and as soon as I find out what is wrong, Ill post it.:D

Sometimes my dog just used to put less pressure on one paw for no apparent reason, but not for a long time. Maybe you should just seep the dog in water and bath her justin case anything is stuck in her skin- it's happened to my dog a few times.
The way your dogs have 'grudges' against each other are just like all the dogs on my street. It's like when my dog arrived she started a posse or something, so any new dogs are snubbed and attacked by 'her gang'. But one of the dogs is gradually gaining acceptance moreso than the others who have been there longer (this dog im' talking about, Sandy- is the newest) so now their focusing their attack plots on 2 other dogs. Dogs can be very evil two- creating their little cliques.
If you do decide to wash the dog then afterwards just wrap her up real warm and set her someplace comfortable and after a rest she might be better. Usually if my dog looks a bit bad I just wrap it up, and set it on a seat or under the chair by the radiator (her favourite spot).

o0o yes, thats how my dogs are. Tika & Ebony hate Nutmeg for some reason, but Nutmeg is always going near them trying to play. Every so often, Nutmeg snaps back, but I swear she never learns. LOl. My Dad thinks they dont like her because shes a big dog- I mean, shes never done anything to them, but T&E were given to us and when we first got them were soooo skiddish and paranoid. We think they were abused. Even know when you go to pet them, they put their head down. I think theyre jealous of Nutmeg because of how I treat her. She was here first and shes the nicest so when Im yelling @ Tika one second, the next Im hugging Nutmeg.

Thank you for the advice and concern. :) My parents came home when I was in the shower and I mentioned it, and my Dad said that she hurt herself jumping out of the chair so now her leg is a little sore.
