View Full Version : "I Love Lucy" - Lost Colored Episode CBSrulz 08-03-2003, 05:55 PM Does anyone know about any news on the search for the "I Love Lucy" colored episode? -Dillon TV Guy 08-04-2003, 11:03 PM None of the episodes were filmed in color, at least according to every source that I've read. Desi wanted to film the hour-long specials in color, but budgetary problems prevented that. The color episode rumor has been floating around these boards for a while, but I've never seen any evidence to back it up. Filming in color is not a matter of switching film -- sets, makeup, lighting, and costumes would have had to be adjusted. And if they had done this, then I'm sure it would be documented in one of the many "Lucy" books out there. SPLAIN 08-05-2003, 10:00 AM Look at the Christmas show colored ep and try and be content with that, it was awesome to finally see them all in color! Lodee 08-05-2003, 04:04 PM Yeah, I think it was just an urban myth:lol: I hate when they colorize black and white. ricardo/mertz 08-10-2003, 11:39 PM I don't like colorized black and white shows either. It looks so fake. Although I would love to see what color things really were. Mkaleek 08-11-2003, 12:17 AM Hey Splain, I am really impressed by the depth of knowledge you possess on Lucille Ball. You are like a Lucypedia in itself. Can I ask you a question? I'm looking for this Lucy interview when she's sitting on a couch, and it sounds like she's revealing everything. They use it on alot of documentaries like American Masters:Finding Lucy, and various others. Do you know anything about it? If so, please Splain. onefortheroad 08-11-2003, 12:28 AM Originally posted by ricardo/mertz I don't like colorized black and white shows either. It looks so fake. But after a long search, it was determined that the episode actually wound up being shot in B&W, in spite of that limited color footage. But while none of the episodes were FILMED in color, "L.A. at Last" has been completely colorized. It was shown at the last Loving Lucy convention. I saw it. And the colorization was actually quite impressive. SPLAIN 08-11-2003, 11:25 AM Lucy is often interviewed on couches, the old Tonight show, the three Joan Rivers interviews, the Dick Cavett one, she did some with Merv Griffin, Mike Douglas Dinah Shore. I'll have to go look at Finding Lucy to know which one you're referring to. It's probably the Cavett or Tonight show ones, Lucy said everything in interviews and would not be afraid to tackle any topic, she was up front about most things, but did still try and control her public image. ARealLucyFan 08-11-2003, 11:47 AM There was an ad in a 1954 TV Guide, stating that the December 6, 1954 I Love Lucy episode (Ricky's Contract) would be aired in color. The We Love Lucy Fan Club contacted CBS about this and they found a list of shows slated to air in color in the 1954-1955 season and the December 6, 1954 Lucy was on the list. Another list was later found with it crossed out. No one is sure if it exists, why it was cut, or why the ad appeared in TV Guide. Anyways I just have the black and white christmas episode.. i didnt know it was in color thats cool! Mkaleek 08-11-2003, 12:58 PM Hey Splain, You think there's any way I can get my hands on any of these interviews? SPLAIN 08-11-2003, 03:09 PM What screws you up is your number of posts, i have had instances where people pretend to be new people to get free tapes from me, i'm afraid i'll need more than a couple of compliments and really know who you are, no offence! CBSrulz 08-11-2003, 05:30 PM Originally posted by SPLAIN Look at the Christmas show colored ep and try and be content with that, it was awesome to finally see them all in color! Does anyone have any pictures from the colored Christmas Episode? And were can i get a copy of the color episode? Maybe it will appear on the I Love Lucy DvDs???? Lodee 08-11-2003, 07:45 PM The color footage of the Scotland episode was done with a home movie camera.:) Oh, and I think you can find the colorized Christmas episode on ebay sometimes. Mkaleek 08-12-2003, 04:24 AM hahhaahahaah! No no, I wasn't asking to buy anything from you, I was just asking in you knew any information about where I could find this stuff. Sorry if I came off in the wrong way. Well, I'll be posting here on a daily basis from now on; this is the first place where people share my love for Lucy, and it feels like home. SPLAIN 08-12-2003, 09:23 AM Well, that's the thing, i don't SELL anything to fellow fans, i make free tapes that i send to them no charge and post free, but i got stung a few times by people who asked for stuff then i never heard from them again, i only want to supply things to R E A L fans. So, if you're here a while, you will eventually get a six hour tape with priceless Lucy stuff on it, i have been taping her stuff since the advent of VCR's and i have very old and some rare things. Another great supplier is this kid in Las Vegas who has most of her best stuff, Michael Cordero at Empiremedia.com, some of the copies aren't the clearest, but they are all priceless. He however charges as he's a student. The only reason i don't charge is because i want to give back to Lucy's Fans for the enjoyment i've gotten from Lucy in the past 50 years. Please understand that ever since someone joined with a different name just to get a free tape, it turned me off and i'm more careful, that's all, it takes a while to make a 6 hour tape for someone, especially when it's a compilation of hours and hours of stuff that i condense. *ShortCake* 08-12-2003, 09:25 AM Claude makes awesome tapes!! I really appreciate it that he made me one ;) Thank you again for that!! I love it!! ricardo/mertz 08-12-2003, 09:49 AM Splain, that is incredibly generous of you. I'm sorry you have been taken advantage of. SPLAIN 08-12-2003, 10:56 AM It's not so much generous as just a lesson Lucy and Desi taught me, it's call PAY BACK! We have been entertained by them for decades, so we give back to others to perpetuate their legacy. Thanks Ash, that was nice of you to say, i know i'll make you a second one soon. I wasn't taken advantage of, i was just surprised by some people's behavior, but i'm old enough to know better. I have sent tapes to enemies who have become friends, or even people who have done terrible things, i especially want to get tapes to the biggies who have been there for years, more than the ones who have just discovered the shows. Also, i would kill to send to some of the people here like Jane who KNOW everything, and Dawsongirl to try and rekindle her love of Lucy, or Mickey who jokes instead of getting upset at some of the things we say, that's the key, to try and be fair, or say bad things in a funny way. Even when i criticize Bush, oh, the trouble i've had with that. But you have to stand up for what you believe in, and your whole country was founded on the process of free speech, and yet some people don't want that to happen. I don't hate the MAN, i hate the Presidency and some of the things he's doing, i certainly LOVE Americans, but i so worry about our future. Enough with this, but remember that i just worry about our world, get out of Irak and take care of North Korea before we all dissapear. It's a scary world out there right now, maybe that's why we all cling on to the life raft of a 50's television show. Lucy always said that that's why she lasted in the business, because she never changed, you could count on her always being there, guess she never imagined we'd all be talking about her on boards almost 15 years after she left us. Mkaleek 08-12-2003, 01:38 PM Thats exactly the point Splain. She's like a refuge from this terrible world we are living it right now. I've been watching Lucy since I was three years old, and I was exactly three years old when Life With Lucy first came on on ABC. Even though she was older, you could feel the power of her prescence even through the television. At three years old, somehow I understood that I had to know everything about this woman no matter what it took. I said "Mommy, who's that?" And she replied "That is Lucille Ball, the most recognized face in the history of the world". Ever since then I've been hooked, but I never met anyone who shared the joy of beng a fan. When I found this message board, I was overjoyed, because now I know I'm just one of many. This is a great site:wave: SPLAIN 08-12-2003, 01:51 PM Well, you just got yourself on the list for a tape with that post! There are still four people or five ahead of you so allow six weeks for delivery, PM me your address, and tell me what you'd prefer. My personal favorites are The All Star Party for Lucille Ball, Lucy inducted into the TV Hall of Fame, the ET the night Lucy died, The Big Street, Bob Hope tribute to Lucy, Life with Lucy, Stone Pillow, Lucy with Bob at the Oscars, 2 music videos with Lucy themes, the Barbara Walters interview, full version, showing even the inside of that house in Beverly Hills, the travel channel documentary, and assorted clips of everything she did, and 2 and half hours from when she died, from newscasts and specials. Keep in mind that most of her specials are copies that aren't clear, but all of the ones listed above were taped off the TV and are perfect, also, most of her shows are in Macrovision as is the case with many of her films, but i have loads of Lucy shows and Here's Lucy shows too! PM me your request and in a few weeks, you'll have a great 6 hour cassette! CBSrulz 08-12-2003, 07:45 PM So Splain, you mean that you will send Video Tapes of Lucy Stuff at no charge??? -Dillon babalucy 08-13-2003, 09:27 AM ouuu! I want one! That's so cool! But I don't think you'd give me one, everybody hates me on this board. >.< *ShortCake* 08-13-2003, 09:41 AM Originally posted by babalucy ouuu! I want one! That's so cool! But I don't think you'd give me one, everybody hates me on this board. >.< you know.. you are diggin yourself a deeper grave! I dont know why you say those type of things. How many times do we have to tell you that we dont hate you? SPLAIN 08-13-2003, 10:08 AM First of all, nobody HATES anybody here, that's true, can't people understand that you can disagree with people and still be friends? These message board are like a debate of ideas and thoughts, and i don't know about you all, but if someone proves me wrong on something, i back off completely. I dun't like it one bit, but i DO back off, LOL! onlyonelucy 08-13-2003, 08:30 PM Originally posted by Lodee Yeah, I think it was just an urban myth:lol: I hate when they colorize black and white. Well, they used the exact coloration and tones from "The Long Long Trailer" and put them into "LA At Last" and showed it in LA at the convention in 2001 and it was GREAT!!!!!!!!!! I have it on tape and LOVE watching it. Lucy looks awesome. SPLAIN 08-14-2003, 09:29 AM I totally agree, i have that colorized I Love Lucy Christmas episode and it's so nice to see the set and our fab four in color! |
