What IS the minimum working age? I've heard many different answers and need the right one. In our school we had a pamphlet called 'what age can i...' at the library but I can't remember if that was in it.
The reason I wanna know is cos sometime I'd like to have a part-time job, and although I know there are places in the town that'll hire you if you know them, even if you're underage, I don't know anyone in the town to get a job like that (examples are vegetable picking, lemonade factory)
I'm hoping to work in the cinema, for the past 2 months they've had no projectionist and jsut use regular workers, and film quality has been bad. If I could learn a thing or 2 I'd like the job(which probably also means I additionally do what a normal worker does too)

Last state I lived it was 14, but you had to get a workers permit.

Here in Michigan I believe it is 14 and you have to have working papers, you can only work a certain # of hours every week, especially during the school year. The only exception to those rules is if you work at a family owned business. Like if your family lives on a farm or owns a restaurant. Webuster, don't you live in the UK? You might be better off asking someone over there because the child labor laws may be different than here in the US.

I think in NJ it's 16 or 17. I wouldn't know I don't have a job unless you count working for daddy a job.

In North Dakota, it's 14. You can also be 14 up here to get your driver's permit/license. I knew a LOT of EIGHTH graders that already had their permits. :o

I think here it is 16.

Yep. Some freshmen already have their own car by the time they start their first day of HS here. :eek:

i think its like 15...idk im 16 and work...so yeah

Here its 14 but you have to be 18 or something to work in some places- 14 to handle food but 18 to handle clothes....go figure.

In Virginia, you can work at 14 (as long as you have a worker's permit), and the minimum wage is about $5.15.

I'm not sure where I read this, but I think in the Province of Ontario, their minimum wage will be increased from $7.80/hr to $10.00/h after the next Provincial election. Which will be sometime this fall.

that's going to be almost twice as much as it is here in Virginia :eek: :)

And it will be much higher than most other Provinces and States too. There is a lot more part-time work than full time work in Ontario right now. That's why I think the minimum wage increase is being considered in Ontario:)
