View Full Version : Nancy Accent
Adoptee 01-16-2001, 03:35 PM Interesting:
when nancy was on facts, she had a long island accent, she sounds just like rosie, now, watchign the divison, the new york is gone out of her, and definetely a california accent, interesting, if she had moved back to long island, she would've talked just like rosie...hmmmmm
KerriBerri687 01-16-2001, 05:11 PM interesting. your right
coily2 01-16-2001, 05:13 PM You can still pick up just a trace of it. It isn't as thick as it used to be. I said in a post a few weeks ago that I think that it sounds like she probably sat down with a dialect coach.
80skid 01-16-2001, 05:58 PM Yeah, I agree. Also, one of my best friends happened to have a bit part in a movie about three years ago and had to have a dialect coach for some kind of accent (I forget what)... she still uses that accent when she's mad, just like Nancy sometimes in The Division http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif

jo: there's face cream, high heels, and perfume. it's like livin' in a drugstore and i can't get to the check out line!
tootie: this is gonna be a great semester... would I lie?
molly: oh, a blister, blair. you'll live.
jo: so my mom stops the romance by sending me here.
tootie: thats one cold mama!
The T 01-16-2001, 06:06 PM Actually yeah you can still hear a small trace of the accent and yeah especially when she is mad. I wouldn't be surprised if she had a coach to get her to stop with the accent, cause like on the "women rock" thing I think you could really hear the accent.

Jo: Well I'm startin.
Nat: Where'd ya get the beer?
Jo: I got the beer. Here's to all who wish me well, all the rest can go to.......Jersey.

Michele35 01-16-2001, 06:27 PM On a completely different, yet similar note, Lisa Whelchel's Texas accent was pretty unnoticable when she portrayed well to do Blair who was supposed to be from New York.

Tootie: Muffy? Her name is Muffy? What kind of person is named Muffy?
Jo: Beats me, Tootie.
Miller15 01-16-2001, 06:41 PM In FOL her accent was probably "welcomed" because her character was from the Bronx (even though LI, Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan... all have slightly different accents). I'm assuming that in The Division, she can't have a NY accent because her character is from SF.
new england holiday 01-16-2001, 07:20 PM also on the topic of accents, her parents have strong Irish accents
Rick&Jo 01-16-2001, 07:32 PM I think Nancy's accent is very sexy.
I read somewhere once while doing an English report that you never lose your accent, it can be buried, but you always have it. I guess she just can't lose it http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif
I love Nancy's NY accent http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif

Jo: Things are NOT going well here. They're dragging your name through the mud...I think I'm gonna have to hit somebody.
Natalie: Who asked you to defend my honor?
Jo: I think I'm gonna have to hit you.

Miller15 01-16-2001, 07:45 PM Wow guys...we've gotten a bit off topic! http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif Anyway, I just want to say to ks: you never do lose your accent. I know because I was born in Brooklyn, NY and I lived there for a while. I grew up mostly in NJ and everyone there commented on my accent. No matter where I go, I'll always have my BK accent! And I'm proud of it!!! http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif
coily2 01-16-2001, 08:26 PM Interesting.... I saw a dialect coach a few years ago when I was working in Radio.... I had to get rid of my hideous "Da Bears" accent. Now I can't even talk like that if I try. But since I moved back to Chicago, I guess I could be talking like that again and not even realize it.
JoMarie036 01-21-2001, 01:36 AM I was wondering about her accent. I know that Nancy McKeon was born in NY so I was curious if the accent that she had on FOL is her natural accent. I've never seen any of her other stuff, so I wouldn't know...
------------------
There's a little bit of Jo in everybody :)
JoMarie036-
It was her natural accent. It was much thicker in the first few seasons and since she lived out in California it slowly drifted away, but 'the Bronx' talk was all hers http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/wink.gif

JoRocks87FOL 01-21-2001, 01:25 PM for instance, i have a californian accent cuz i have lived here my whole life, but,in likeing jo and nancy and whatever, i have acctually started to pick up a NY accent. it sounds kind of weird, picking up an accent i don't know much about, but i have convinced a LOT of people that i am from NY!
i think nancy may have porposely pronouncesd her accent for the first few sesons of the facts to make it sound like she was a street wise kid from the bronx, but i am not sure
