I Heard the 90's Version of Fantasy Island was completely different from the original. Supposedly Mr. Rourke wore a Black suit instead of white and was evil, And their was no Tattoo but Mr. Rourke kept slaves working for him.

Has anyone seen this?

I haven't seen it before, but I've heard the 1998 revival series in nothing like the original, in fact it's the exact opposite, it's was more of a dark version from the original, Mr. Rourke had supernatrual powers and the guests were used sometimes as prisoners. Usually remakes don't do that well; that's probably why this remake was short-lived. I wish that TV Land would air an episode with the original in a "Fantasy Island Box Set".

I've seen the 90's one with Malcolm McDowell as Mr. Roarke and it is nothing like the original. I guess they decided to do something more original with the show and failed.

I really disliked the 90s version of this show because it really wasn't a good show and I didn't think it was at all like Fantasy Island the original show. It is aired on the Sci-Fi channel every once in a while in the daytime but I'm not sure when.

I didn't like the 90s version. I don't know why but there is just something or several things about it that, imo, just don't make it a good show to watch.

The 90's remake had more of a darker edge to it, and they really drove home the old addage "be careful what you wish for." Malcom McDowell's Mr Roarke was much different than the 70's Roarke (hence the black suit- the opposite of Ricardo Montalban's white suited character. Get it? Symbolism!) and seemed to take great pleasure in twisting the guests fantasies around to treach them a lesson.

I believe it does run from time to time on Sci Fi Channel.

I noticed the difference in suits right away, and I love Malcolm McDowell. I thought he did a good job with his take on Mr. Roarke. Also, the fact that he actually made them learn a lesson was something I got a big kick out of. Still, I didn't like it quite as much as the original Fantasy Island.

Every now and then you can catch it when they run those mini-marathons during the week.

I liked both versions. I like a little dark humor.

If I remember correctly, the Fantasy Island from the 1990's alwas started with an old mom and pop travel agency, and ended with them. I did not figure out what that meant.

I'll be in the minority here but I actually liked the 90s version better than the original.

The two pilot films for the first series had a definately darker edge than the actual series did. I missed that in the series.

The 90s version actually intro'd McDowell's character as the new Rourke. Explained that Rourke was a position on the island, not a single person. He opened the closet full or white suits and ordered them destroyed and replaced. So it was implied that you earned your way on to the 'staff' of the island. And there was always a dark undercurrent.

I wish that THIS single season would be released!!!

Watched this version one time, turned the tv off, banged my head against the wall, and never watched it again, lol. I'll just stick with the original. :P
