View Full Version : AIM Problems
Czas na Zywiec 08-01-2003, 03:41 PM Okay, this is really getting me POed. I have no idea what's going on, but whenever I log onto AIM, a few minutes later, it shuts down and I get a message that says:
The program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.
Okay, that's not my main problem. Whenever I get a message like that, I just click 'Close' or X the box out and everythings fine and dandy. I just restart AIM and it's like nothing happened. But whenever I do that NOW, it just comes back half a second later, and it just keeps coming back. I swear I Xed it out at least 3000 times, yet, no cigar. It's like a never ending pop-up window. So I checked to see what it said in 'Details':
AIM caused an invalid page fault in
module KERNEL32.DLL at 015f:bff9d709.

Stack dump:
The ONLY way I can get it out is to restart my computer. I did that like 30 times today. Once I do, I log onto AIM, an the same process happens all over again. What's wrong?! Justin? Anyone..? [SCREAMS]
Georgia's on my Mind 08-01-2003, 03:44 PM I get Kernel errors all the time too...I have no idea how to fix it though
Central Perk 08-01-2003, 03:48 PM Maybe you could try unistalling and then reinstalling AIM..

PZelda 08-01-2003, 04:20 PM Solution:
Get rid of Windows 98 (or whatever version you're on) and upgrade to XP Professional. IMMEDIATELY. You won't get that error anymore, I hope. What version of AIM are you using?

I agree TJ, Trillian is awesome! Although, I don't use it anymore b/c I don't bother with msn or yahoo. It's still a good program though I recommend it to anyone.

Hmm..I have XP and I've gotten this error before. "The program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the problem persists, contact the program vendor." I just closed the program, let it sit for a few and turned it back on and it worked fine. I've never got the KERNEL32.DLL error before though.

Weird, I'm on XP too (but on a comp w/ 98 on it at the moment) and I've never gotten an illegal operation error w/ AIM since I got XP in November 2001...*shrug*

That'd be sort of pointless due to the fact that I'm leaving college in less than three weeks and I don't plan on bringing this useless contraption. Plus, I'm the only one in the house who uses AIM.
Well, I unsinstalled it, then re-downloaded it, but it took like 5 downloads later until it went into affect. (It downloaded the first time, but it gave me the the crappy first version that I used two years ago) Don't know what went wrong, but it hasn't happened again, so I don't want to question it.
Thanks for everyone who replied though.
Ewan's My Man 08-01-2003, 06:21 PM Well lately I've been trying to get a new sn, w/o re-d/ling it b/c I already have it downloaded. So then I get to that place and I click like, whatever it says, "AOL member who wants to chat on an AIM sn" and I click that and then I fill in all that stuff...and then it takes me to the d/ling page. And I don't wanna d/l so I just click Launch. I've even tried clicking Install but I never get that e-mail and I can never sign on. The problem is, I try again, using the same sn and it says I can't GET that sn...someone already has it. Uh...hello? Me?
I'm mad. Does NE1 know what I'm doing wrong?
Czas na Zywiec 08-02-2003, 01:24 AM Oh My God, I swear I'm going to smash this computer in. After spening all day uninstalling AIM, then Re-Downloading it, it's giving me the same, damn message.:mad::mad:
Here, I took a screen-cap of the first box I get before it gives me the usual 'illegal operation' garbage. Justin?!? :(

I honestly don't know... I guess you could try scandisk to see if there are any errors... or look on the web for info...
