I heard that if your name is Ryan,you are a white boy. I personally know 2 black Ryans, an Asian Ryan, a Hispanic Ryan, a multi-racial Ryan and two white Ryans. Where do they come up with this inane stuff?

Basically because of stupidity, but more so because of traditional thinking.

I think all stereotypes are stupid. Another incredibally stupid stereotype is that all people with physical disabilities are also mentally ******** or something.

As for names, people of all ethnic backgrounds have the same names, but it's true that different nationalities favor certain names.
My husband's family is Italian, and there are more Tonys, Sals.... and even a Mario.
I'm Irish, and there are names like Margaret, Kathleen, Billy, Sean, etc.
It's simply a fact, and I don't think it's a bad thing either.

That is certainly the case. In the past people named their children for their ancestors. My family is German so there are a lot of German names along the way. (including mine) Now days anything goes. But I do prefer first names matching the ethnic last name. I happen to know a black boy named Fritz. He was adopted by a white German family.What one names his children is his own business. Who are we to criticize?:D

Evgenia (or Jenya) is a very popular name in Russia and Eastern Europe. So is Alena (or Elena), Tatiana, Olga, Oxsana, etc. You don't hear much of these names at all in North America. Unless you are an Immigrant.:)

Well Thank You. I think Evginia is the feminine name of Gene (I'm not sure though). If you are interested in different names just type European names in a search engine (I guess):)

In old scottish tribes a persons first name would have been (it's complicated so I may muddle this up) their grandmothers maiden name. I think that's how 'Fletcher Christian' from the mutiny on the bounty got his name.

Every generation has its trendy names. The most common girls names in my generation were Linda, Pamela, Debbie and Diane. I swear, every other girl in my high school class was named Linda! It's a pretty name but was way way over used! The same goes for the name Jennifer which was very popular in the 70's. I always wondered if Jennifer was popularized by the movie" Love Story "in which the main character's name was Jennifer. the movie came out in 1970 and was very popular! That's about the time that the name Jennifer really took off! So all in all names are a product of ones generation. :D

Exactly!!!!!! I mean when people hear a name they will automatically think up a race. It is really dumb and stupid. I know a person who is named Tyrell. You would think he is black. Nope he is white. I dont think it matters what race you are to name you and it shouldnt.

Yah, I hate stereotypes. But I do admit when I do hear a name like Shaniqua, etc. I do automatically think of African-American, or maybe if I hear Tito I think of Spanish, etc. Its because those nationalities use those names the most, nothing bad. But if I heara the name Paul or David, I dont automatically think of caucasian. Some names to me are 'universal.':crazy: Anyways, my name is English, and I am English (and Italian, etc.).

Could it be that a child is often named after the mother's maiden name? It has happened at least three times on soap operas: On "Ryan's Hope," Mary Ryan and Jack Fenelli had a daughter. The daughters name? Ryan Fenelli. On "All My Children," Mary Greenlee and Roger Smythe had a daughter. The daughters name? Greenlee Smythe. (well actually her biological father is Jack Montgomery but....). On "Guiding Light," Reva Shayne and Joshua Lewis had a son. Son's name? Shayne Lewis.

like one of my good friends is named monique most people expect a black girl, but shes this blonde white girl, its crazyy how much people sterotype and how sterotypes have been pushed through the media

That is definitely not true! One of my best friends has been physically handicamped her whole life with arthritis and she is VERY smart. A lot smarter than I am. She's one of the smartest people that I've ever met in my life. She got straight A's in school. So, people thinking that someone with a physical disability is mentally ******** is really stupid.
