His consistent failure to keep a straight face when Fred would berate him...case in point Episode 125, i think ...Here Today Gone Today, in the scene where Rollo tries to explain that he took the car to get it repainted...he says something like "come on, Pop.." and Fred says " Don't POP me, I ought pop you one across the lip..." or something like that ...watch Rollo's face during that scene... he can't keep from laughing!!!

I know that this problem with Rollo was mentioned way back in another post, but i don't believe it addressed this episode....

Maybe someone else knows of other instances of "breaking character", I'd like to know of them...

when they where locked up and fred started making jokes on esther. If you look at rollo he is laughing. I don't really see that as an issue. I think they really didn't feature Lamont too much therefore why should they feature his best friend....... In the episode where he saw fred and bubba going into that gay bar he did a good job and made it funny....GO AHEAD AND ASK'EM..ASK'EM.....ASK'EM...*LOL*

Fred was a crazy old cantakerous man. If he threatened to "pop me" I think I might have chuckled too. Rollo was a free wheeling, fun loving guy, he shouldn't have (and didn't) take Fred too seriously.

I thought Rollo was a beautiful actor in these episodes. Rollo not always able to keep a straight face to keep from laughing didn't bother me at all. I thought he was a great!!!!!!!!!!! I loved him!!!!!!!

Redd Foxx got so many great lines, it was probably impossible for Taylor to keep a straight face.

And I'll bet Redd made up a lot of them on the spot. It would be really hard to keep a straight face then....... :lol:

Rollo didn't laugh during this scene

Fred-"Hey Rollo I heard the crime is down 50%

Rollo="really? How come?

Fred-""because you inside"

:rofl: Yeah, he was always busting Rollo's chops about the criminal element.

I love it when actors break character and you can see them smile or laugh it makes the scene funnier.

Remember Tim Conway and Harvey Korman on "The Carol Burnett Show"? Conway was always causing Korman to break character and bust out laughing. And it was the funniest part of the show! So breaking character isn't always a bad thing.

I read that Redd was good friends with Nathaniel (as with Lawanda etc) and there was a comfort level between the two.. You can tell Rollo isn't even really acting but just having fun..
