Yeha I understand we must have rules but some seem kinda like, too much.

Why?

Hey, live with it. Like they said, they WILL probably ease up on #1 and 3 after a while. Too much trouble was going on here recently, so that is why they had to enforce those rules.

I for one completely agree with the Rules I know I left for awhile because of some of the problems we were having I CAME back and decided to just ignore the Problems and the problem threads
But I think the Rules will Help for Newbies who ARENT breaking the rules or for people who wish to stay

Exactly. And as for the people here with potty mouths, you need to remember there ARE other words you can use when you're mad. Like, say, dang, darn, bullfrog (for those who read The Babysitters' Club Little Sister series, you should know what I'm talking about), etc etc etc. And I was getting sick of the garbage going on here, too. I chose to laugh at all of them and not take an active part in them like some of you did.

IMO, I think the reason why the rules look/seem so harsh is because theyre posted up, when in fact its common sense stuff. Yah, I bleep out my words sometimes because I knew it was disrespectful. Ill have to make up new sayings for when I get angry. But as for the respect/no fighting rule... uh duh. Yah, people are going to argue, but lately its become ridiculous. How many threads have been closed/deleted the past 2 days? 5?

The swearing by itself I really don't have a major problem with because it is censored out.. it's when people INTENTIONALLY go around the rules and use the vb code to swear with the bold option.. that is the problem! I would hate to take out the vbcode because people don't use it the way it was intended to be used.

I just registered to a board with multiple forums like here a couple days ago. The same day I got suspended because I posted something too off-topic, which I actually didn't know was too off topic. I had to email the moderator personally to get my account back (like I want it now). Compared to that crazy place, SO is very laid back. Heck, even not comparing the two boards, this place is handling the situation really well I think. I'm not surprised by the new rules. TJ and Pav are doing a great job!

They don't bother me, it's TJ and Pav's board so they can do as they please. :)

I never thought that a person who came on and announced they were a :newbie: would be so bad, after all, why not? Until I noticed that a lot of them turned out to be guys like Nate, forging a new identity and all.

It seemed like a nice thing at first for a person to announce being a new face, until I noticed a lot of problems with the same people. They weren't who they appeared to be...

I don't think swearing like "hell" and "damn" and other dealies is the kind of swearing that's not allowed. (If that were the case, fundamentalist preacher types would be out of a job!) But I have noticed a lot of profanity come up from nowhere.

I have no problem with the posting rules, lately there has been a whole lot of immaturity ( is that a word? ) going on. I like to think of SO as a positive and fun place, but sometimes.......

I agree with the Rules, I have no problem with them. Things were just a little too out-of-hand. I've seen a few people go around the VBcode just to curse, It's really immature.

Well, it would just about figure we'd all get rules because of a bunch of fruitcakes that don't know how to act. It's his board, so I'm not complaining. I'm staying, so this isn't a post about 'Ooh, I'm like so mad now because we all have rules. I'm leaving.' So no, it isn't that.

Be prepared, with this new cursing rule, I'll be saying a lot of 'Oh good night nurse'

Anyways, I don't have a problem with these rules...I don't think I've ever broken any ever anyway. I didn't even make a thread saying I was new here when I first came. :p

I've seen boards with stricter rules. This place is tame compared to others.

I'm glad we have stricter rules now. We need them, unfortunately. Maybe sometime, they can loosen up, but the way things were going, it was getting ridiculous.

I have visited some other forums that are stricter than this one, too. On one video game message board, they don't allow people to bring back old topics, make off-topic posts, make one-word replies or do anything to try to boost your post total. On the PlayStation.com message boards, they are also strict but sometimes laid-back. The last time I went there, the administrator put in a new rule against making topics that are not beneficial (i.e. rate the signature above you, who has the best signature, etc.) to the boards.

To those who think the adminstrators of this board are harsh and strict: I challenge you to find other big message boards with administrators who are more lenient and even more less strict than the administrators of these boards.
