A lot of you might not have lived long enough to have any nostalgic foods in your life. Nostalgic foods are foods or snacks that you enjoyed while growing up but dropped from your grocery list, as you got older. Then, from time to time, you are possessed to buy – or in some cases, ask Mom to buy -- and eat those foods because they are, ;) ‘Nostalgic Foods’. Since it isn’t a phrase that I’ve heard of before, maybe I made it up, I don’t know. Anyway, an example for me would be bologna:). I don’t eat bologna sandwiches on a regular basis as I did when I was a kid. Once in awhile, though, I have to buy a package of good old Oscar Meyer All Beef Bologna:cow:. I never manage to eat the whole package before I toss it out, but I do go on a bologna sandwich binge for a while pig:.
Another example would be Cap’n Crunch cereal. I don’t eat sugary cereals like that anymore, but when I was a kid Cap’n Crunch was one of my favorites. I even used to do an imitation of the cartoon Cap’n Crunch character.:happyface

Foods that take me back to my wonderful childhood.....

Rice Krispie marshmallow bars. They sell them today already made, but my mother used to make them homemade when we were kids. She'd melt the marshmallow and butter on the stove. I could go for one now.

Kitt, I'll take your bologna memory further. My mother used to make us fried bologna sandwiches. The Oscar Mayer bologna would get crispy around the edges. We'd have them on Wonder bread with French's mustard.

Frozen Kool-Aid pops. We had this special tray for the freezer to make them.

Sugar sandwiches, lol. We'd pour sugar on a plate and press that wonder bread into it and it was heaven.

Cream of Wheat here too, only the slow cooking method, not the instant packages of today.

My mother would make a pot of sauce and meatballs, and my sisters and I would take a slice of bread and fold it in half and dip it into the sauce, double-dipping all the while while it was still cooking. My mother would feign anger as we ate the loaf of bread.

On Fridays, my mother would cook shrimp scampi for her and my Dad. Like most kids, we wouldn't eat shrimp so she would make fish sticks and tater tots in the oven for us. As we got older, we started eating shrimp too. My parents would joke that we were cheaper eaters as kids, lol.

My mother used to cook spaghetti and butter. Some of my fondest memories are my mother with her three little girls in pajamas on a Saturday night eating that.

A lot of cereals. :lol: I don't eat cereal anymore. I used to eat Golden Grahams, Honeycomb (I would eat three bowls of that a day in middle school every morning), Cookie Crisp, you name it. I used to like cereals but my apetite in the morning is apparently diminishing.

This thread reminds me of Mr. T cereal. I wasn't able to eat solid food back then. I wonder if anybody remembers that cereal. It was a bunch of crunchy T's.

Not only did I leave off the Pop Tarts, but you just reminded me of those Rice Krispie treats my mom and aunt would make. Not to mention the Frozen Kool-Aid pops, which were the best! Sugar sandwiches.. the smell of Cream of Wheat cooking on top of the stove.

Also in the Drakes Cakes family, Yankee Doodles were a big hit in my house when I was growing up.

....lots of hot dogs, macaroni and cheese, Spaghetti-Os, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches (still love em today).
That Swanson TV dinner with the fried chicken and mashed potatoes was quite the rage in our house.
Ellio's frozen pizza...
Fighting over those two cherries in the can of mixed fruit, lol...
Licking the spoon and bowl with the cake batter....lol.

My Mom used to make us bologna hats. What that is, is a slice of bologna fried flat on the pan until it puffs up in the middle. We thought that was quite a treat! And I guess it saved her money by not having to use bread.

One of the other things we ate that I cannot stand the thought of eating now, is graham cracker cereal, using real graham crackers, mushed up with milk and sugar.

That reminds me that sauercraut and weiners was one of our occasional dinner menues. I never really got nuts over that one. It was one of my dad's favorites though so I pretended to like it, lol. :)

I hadn't heard them called bologna hats before now though. I like to turn them often; not that they need it. Well, I am still young, but there are a few things I remember eating when I was a kid.

Fruit roll ups and bologna. I dont buy those that much anymore, but I still like them. I do the foodshopping for us, and the foods I remember liking back then, I dont know lol. The food that says 'nostalgia' is def. mac & cheese, but my God I still have that atleast once a week.:lol: Its my food! Kraft only though.:p

A few things I remember eating, definatly fried bolonga except we called bolonga jumbo :lol: Ketchup sandwiches, beans and weenies Nutty Buddy ice cream cones, creme sickles and last but not least jiffy pop popcorn.

when i was younger my me, my brother and sisters would eat macaroni and hot dogs and fried bologna, but i cant eat pork anymore so i dont ever feel nostalgic and what any.

Ahh....Dunkaroos.....two small kangaroo-shaped cookies with a chocolate cream in between them. Those things were DA BOMB!!!! And omg....jelly sandwiches. What could I say? Two peices of dry white bread, with some nice Smuckers jelly in between. Yummy....and Star Crunch...krisped rice with chocolate and caramel....and gawd....Nepolitan ice cream....a box of ice cream with three different flavors - chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry. What can I say? It was the early 90s...

So many foods I liked when I was a kid.

Kinda funny, back when I was 7 (this was about 1970), there was a short-lived Kellogg's item called Danish Go-Rounds which were like Pop Tarts except they were in a swirly shape with a yummy fruit flavored glaze. I loved those things, but they didn't have them on the market for very long.

I also remember when Cap'n Crunch had mini-cartoon commercials with four kids, Sea Dog, and of course, the Pirate Jean LaFoote. Anyone also remember Quisp and Quake?? Those commercials were part of the cereal-enjoying experience.

I was also huge on a General Foods pudding treat called Spoon Candy which had layers of pudding in between a hard icing shell.
And anyone remember Magic Shell ice cream topping?? And of course Jello Pudding Pops were great (Bill Cosby used to pitch those on commercials). And I loved it when my mom made Dream Pie.:liplick: :eat:

One of the things me and my younger brother HATED was when my mom would buy a yummy sweet cereal and we'd be SOOOOO looking forward to munching that stuff down in the morning...Only to hear a familiar crunching sound around midnight...Our older brother would be sitting in the kitchen devouring the stuff down with his mouth open, CHOMP CHOMP CHOMP CHOMP.....:rolleyes: Of course we'd have only a tiny bit for cereal the next morning.....:(

Pop Rocks! I loved those...grape was my favorite. My brother used to buy them for me. Also Boo-berry and Frankenberry cereals. They were great!
