View Full Version : NBC annoncing Joey's Spinoff today
LucyCompanyPhan 07-24-2003, 03:05 AM NBC today plans to announce a deal with Matt LeBlanc to star in Joey, a Friends spin-off featuring the show's Joey Tribbiani who is headed for California.
The series, which won't include any other Friends cast members, will premiere in September 2004, probably in the newly vacated Thursday at 8 p.m. ET/PT time slot, after Friends ends its 10th and final season in May.
No script has been written, but the show is believed to be based on a scenario in which Joey moves to Los Angeles to pursue his acting career, most likely to be joined by a love interest and an ensemble cast.
the source is from a website, their source was from USA Today
When theres more information, ill post it in here
Springcreek 07-24-2003, 10:28 AM Although I'm happy there will be a spinoff from Friends featuring Joey, I'm sad, too, because it means there won't be a chance for a Joey and Rachel relationship. :(
However, this doesn't mean that Ross and Rachel will reunite. The series could very well end with them just being parents to Emma and that's all. ;)
I would imagine Phoebe will marry Mike and Chandler and Monica will adopt a baby and shortly afterwards, discover Monica is pregnant, too. That would be a very nice way to close the Chandler and Monica story. :)
But, I've been such a huge Joey and Rachel supporter and fan that it's going to be tough seeing him with anyone else!!! :crying:

i agree with you on the phoebe marring mike note and chandler and monica adopting a baby and then having monica pregnant. i think that would be the best way to close their story, but i think opposite of you with Rachel/Ross. They are great together and should end up together. To me Joey and Rachel will never be what Ross and Rachel was. I think Joey and Rachel together is twisted. The show should end with a Ross & Rachel wedding. A Phoebe proposal/marriage and Chandler and Monica baby and Joey going to LA and thats where the spinoff begins
Springcreek 07-24-2003, 02:14 PM When was Ross and Rachel ever good together??

Not everyone see eye to eye. To me, Rachel's true love will always be Ross. How can you not watch Season 2-3 and not see how much in love they were? To me, that kind of love will never go away. Rachel could never love Joey the way she loved Ross.
Springcreek 07-25-2003, 01:01 AM The Rachel in season 2 and 3 was a very, very different Rachel than we saw in the later seasons. Everything that happened between them after the infamous "break" meant a reconcillation between them was not to be. Remember they did try at the beach house, but ended up having that huge fight and breaking up -- again. Even when they got married in Vegas, Ross lied to her over and over about getting the annulment. He could never accept her growing and changing. He wanted her to always be a waitress at the coffee house so he could #1, keep an eye on her all the time and #2, she would never be able to be more than a waitress and expand her horizons in life. His way of controlling her. Even when she was pregnant and he proposed citing it was the "right thing to do", it was still another form of control for him. Ross, as usual, was trying to call all the shots. Please don't get me started on his constant need to control everyone.

No offense but u act like Ross is your ex boyfriend.
You are looking way too deep into this.
what would make u even think Joey would stay in a relationship with Rachel? Hes not gonna change for her. He really liked Rachel and then went back to the same old Joey pretty fast. Joey could meet anyone and like them the same as he liked Rachel. He bounces back fast. He was heartbroken, but then in the next episode he goes to the next.
Ross has a jealousy problem. It is not the same as control. He loves rachel, he just doesnt express it better. your changing his reasons around. He didnt get the annulment because he didnt want to be divorced for the 3rd time. Not because he couldnt accept that rachel was changing And everyone knew that he secretly still loved Rachel. (Just like when He married Emily Rachel secretly loved Him)
Joey went for Rachel on the Rebound off of Charlie. What makes you think he still has feelings for her?
Springcreek 07-25-2003, 11:43 AM Ross reminds me of my ex-husband and I know how that type of personality behaves. It's textbook. ;)
Rachel is the first woman Joey has ever fallen in love with. That in itself speaks volumes to me. A person always has feelings for their first love even if they move on and have dozens of relationships/marriages afterward. Charlie was a rebound for Joey when he tried to move on from Rachel. Even when Rachel was having feelings for Joey and was on the verge of telling him, she didn't get to until 923/924. Basically, all Charlie was to Joey was a distraction because if you watch 924 again at the end when Joey sees Ross and Charlie kissing, he has a nice, "good for them" kind of look on his face and it was at that moment that he realized that Rachel was returning his feelings and that is why he went back to her room. The "Ross obstacle" was now gone.

Will and Grace Fanatic 07-25-2003, 12:42 PM It is great news to many "Friends" fans. Let's just hope that in ends up being like "Frasier" with so many emmy noms and Wins. And wonderful ratings.
And not like the "Seinfeld" curse with all 3 actor's shows being cancelled.

Charlie was not a rebound off of Rachel for Joey. The 10 other girls Joey went out with in Season 9 were. Charlie was just another girl for Joey. Not to meantion you could tell he really liked her because he went to all the trouble to impress her. He was obviously upset when he saw Ross & Her kissing. So he went to Rachel not thinking about anything except that she was the only one there for him and that if Ross is okay with kissing charlie, then im okay with kissing Rachel. I feel actually bad for her. Shes just the rebound from Charlie.Joey just doesnt sit around be single. He went for the person he could get. He wanted Rachel before and now he has her. He couldnt do it to Ross, but When he saw Ross kissing Charlie, Ross did it to him, so he did it to Ross. He figured Ross is moving on....which he is, but I wouldnt be surprised that Joey/Rachel thing is going to break his heart.
Superbatboy 07-27-2003, 03:23 AM I'm happy for Matt Le Blanc. And I'm sure we'll have cameos for years to come (provided the show lasts that long).

But none of the "Seinfeld" stars' shows were spinoffs. If there was a spinoff with Kramer or George or Elaine Would it have worked? maybe but that's because everybody knows those characters.Nobody knew Vic or Bob or Ellie before their shows premiered. If "Elaine" was on the air then it might have been a hit but we'll never know that will we?
felicitylen 07-29-2003, 04:37 PM I'm thinking bad idea!
Central Perk 07-29-2003, 07:07 PM I think that since Joey is getting his own spinoff that the character should become smarter. During the 8th and 9th season the writers started to make him really dumb. Hopefully, he'll have the intelligence he had from the first season when he gets his own show, because I don't think that someone as dumb as Joey is now could be able to be the lead in a show, jmo.
HDfanLiz 08-01-2003, 12:39 AM I'm excited about this, I think it should be a good show (as long as, of course, there's a good supporting cast around him).
