ClassicTV4Ever 07-27-2003, 05:57 PM OMG! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!! I am absolutely freaking out! Thanks, Pav! :) :) :) :) ::goes to Time Life website and orders::
It`s currently on back order. You can still order them now. They wont charge your credit card until it`s shipped. Hopefully, they will get more in to ship out soon. I only recently found out myself on the Time Life website when i ordered some Muppet Show and Fat Albert DVD`S. The demand was higher than they planned so hopefully this means seasons 2 and 3 will follow.
I cant Wait !!
Pavan 07-29-2003, 10:07 PM Is there anybody out there that got this DVD yet? If so, do tell us about it.
I just got an email this morning from Time Life saying it has been shipped !!!

Wha? I haven't gotten one and I ordered it Sunday. I only got an e-mail saying that my order was being processed and then I got a second e-mail saying it's on backorder.
jmitch-NYC 07-30-2003, 02:14 PM Does anyone know if the DVD's have any extras like interviews or outtakes?
I got it in the mail today. So far, i`ve watched a couple episodes and they look really great. The episodes are around 25 min. so they must be uncut. Theres no bonus or additional stuff but it comes with a nice episode guide and 3 discs. Packaged well too, much better than some DVD packages i`ve received.
The Burger Queen episode was also great with guest stars Dick Van Patten and David White. Another funny episode where Roger is in the hospital guest stars Mel Stewart who played George Jeffersons brother on All in the Family plays an ex- baseball star.
Alot of episodes to go through yet but it looks pretty awesome to me!!

::cries:: You must have ordered yours way before I did. I placed my order a week ago and it says it's been backordered. Oh well, I guess when it comes, it comes.
I placed it a couple of weeks ago.
dlemond 08-05-2003, 11:06 AM How did I miss this???
I'm ordering today!!!
jatm27 08-11-2003, 11:45 AM What great news!!!!!! I just told my wife yesterday how excited I would be if they started releasing "What's Happening" on DVD. My prayers have been answered!!!!!!!!!
My order is on backorder as well, I guess I'll have to wait just a little while longer for my dreams to become a reality.
jmitch-NYC 08-11-2003, 12:31 PM I got these a couple weeks ago. The best part about watching these is seeing the 2 minute tag scenes at the end of the show. These haven't been seen since the original airings. They get cut out in syndication. They're really funny parts! The tag scenes alone are worth the price.
After watching these, I got a really good perspective about how badly tv show are edited for reruns.
These dvd's are the only way to watch'em.

So please all fans buy it so we save the show on DVD! If it starts selling, seasons 2 and 3 could come out soon as well! Please tell everyone you know who has seen or likes WH!!

How can that be it if it was already backordered after such a short release time?
I am going to send emails to friends.
I need those other seasons!!

I think the reason may be that they probably didn't order very many copies to start with, unsure as to how well it will do.
BinkyMcDoodle 08-14-2003, 03:52 AM I got my e-mail today that says that it has shipped. I expected a longer wait so I am happy with that news....! :)

ClassicTV4Ever 08-14-2003, 10:40 PM Wow, it's on backorder again. Either sales are starting to pick up or they really aren't keeping very many in stock. I really hope it starts to do well enough for us to see seasons 2 and 3.
Pavan 08-17-2003, 04:47 PM I got my copy yesterday. I've been watching it today, VERY good quality and the tag scenes are hilarious.
ClassicTV4Ever 08-19-2003, 05:50 PM I got my copy yesterday and I finished watching the first disc. This is so awesome! I really hope we'll get to see seasons 2 and 3.
GrapeJelly 08-20-2003, 10:04 AM I purchased the first season of What's Happening also and I'm very pleased with the outcome. The packaging is very nice and finally having this series in pristine audio/picture quality is fantastic. I hope they follow up with seasons 2, 3, etc. Keep your fingers crossed, y'all! ;)
Lady T 08-22-2003, 10:44 PM I used to love What's Happening when I was a little girl, I cannot wait to purchased it on DVD;)

I would have thought that the Whats happening sets being on backorder early on at TimeLife meant that it was doing well. I'd ordered my copy from TimeLife's website the instant I saw the commercial on tv and it said backordered, and stayed that way daily for nearly three weeks. I looked at that as an encouraging sign that it was a popular item and that more seasons would be on the way. Plus I was tracking some ebay sales and someone actually bid $80.00 not knowing it was available through TimeLife. Anyway, I have my copy, love it to death and hope the followup seasons are eventually released.
By the way, this is my first post, I just joined the forums and am glad to be among fellow WH fans. hey HEY hey

I thought so too at first, but I think it's just that they're only keeping small quantities in stock at a time.

When you think about it, that's kind of weird since TimeLife is the only one distributing it, outside of places like ebay. If they'd only have x number of copies in stock at a time, they must already figure a certain limited level of interest. But if they felt strong enough to even bother releasing the first season with a certain number of copies, I don't see why there'd be a problem with releasing followup seasons. I hope they do release more. As I was enjoying the season one episodes, I'd remember scenes and episodes from seasons two and three, and said Man, I can't wait til those seasons come out too.
hoosierelvisfan 10-23-2003, 12:26 PM Is this set in stores anywhere or do you have to purchase it through Time-Life????? I don't remember seeing it before.

I recommend everyone getting it, especially since Fred passed away. We need seasons 2 and 3 now even more. Here is the Time Life homepage link, buy today: http://service.bfast.com/bfast/click?bfmid=34769093&siteid=40609605&bfpid=19777-9&bfmtype=merchandise

We definitely need Seasons 2 & 3.
Any idea how S1 is selling Pav?
I still see it backordered at Time-Life, and that can't be a bad thing as far as sales are concerned.
Season 2 may just be my favorite, but I haven't seen it many, many years, so how can I know for sure?
BRING ON SEASONS 2 & 3!
vashti1999 10-24-2003, 11:22 AM It was bad enough that the set had already been on backorder often, but now with Fred Berry's passing, the demand may be even higher. But the timelife website may be your best bet, because now I bet the prices on ebay will be even more outrageous than they already were.
vashti1999 10-24-2003, 11:38 AM Check this out, the first season has been on dvd for around at least three months already and only now is it being mentioned at davisdvd.com (http://davisdvd.com/news/daily_news.html#102203). Well, maybe this will create more interest and get them to release seasons 2 & 3 sooner.
DJM77 10-25-2003, 10:44 PM Will it ever be available at stores?
Pavan 10-26-2003, 08:32 PM I'm not sure if it is available in stores. I did notice now on TimeLife it says "In Stock."
Look:

If anyone didn't buy it yet because it was on back order or something, now is your chance!

What's happening? It's that What's Happening!! - which has been available (http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/releaseinfo.cfm?ReleaseID=3017) from Time-Life since July, is coming to a store near you next February.
Columbia Tristar brings you the funny, funky late-'70s comedy classic featuring high-school pals Raj, Dwayne and Rerun, Raj's bratty little sister Dee, Shirley and Mama - who's always got the last word. You'll get the complete hip, hilarious first season - jam-packed with your favorite people and funniest moments in 21 great episodes.

Created by Eric Monte, based on his 1975 film Cooley High, this is the series that gave us Rerun, played by Fred Berry (who tragically passed away last month). This 3-Disc set will have a suggested list price of only $29.95, which is a great price for over 8 hours of programming. Look for this on February 3, 2004. Here's a bonus menu screen for you to enjoy:

Lady T 02-03-2004, 11:47 PM Hi I just want to announce that I purchased the What's Happening DVD today at the Wherehouse; I am not sure if the Wherehouse is a Western Chain, but if you live in the South-West part of the US, ( I live in San Diego)..you can purchase the DVD at The Wherehouse for $29.99:wave:
vashti1999 02-03-2004, 11:59 PM The Target store I went to here in New York had both What's Happening and Good Times each for $24.99. The back off the box for WH looks just like the back of the set released through Time Life last year.

Trust me, I've done the same thing. With a dvd I've been anticipating heavily, I put up with paying a few bucks more if it means I'll get it in my hands sooner. With certain dvds, I have to have it as soon as it's available.

"Since its release in February, What's Happening!! - The Complete First Season DVD has sold about 100,000 copies - not as much as Sanford and Son or the millions that Seinfeld is expected to sell when it is released Nov. 23. Bu it was profitable enough that two weeks ago, the studio released the What's Happening!! second-season DVD set (three discs, $30)"
