Yesterday I was watching N@N and it played a sound clip of Cliff saying
"Why do we have 4 kids?"
and then Claire says
"Because we didn't want 5"

I remember it from the first few episodes but don't they have 5 kids?

In the beginning they had 4 kids but because Bill Cosby wanted the show to mirror around his own life they had 5. Sondra was away at college.

Yea and that was the pilot epsiode. If you noticed, the house was different as well. Also, Cliff's nameplate said: Clifford Huxtable, M.D. But during the rest of the series he is called Heathcliff.
