Anyone catch the first two hours of the 200 Greatest Pop Culture Icons on VH1? I've been waiting for months for this countdown to air and it's finally started. They counted down from 200 to 161 from 9:00pm est to 11:00pm est. It has been rather interesting so far. The countdown began with The Rock at number 200 and ended with Monica Lewinsky at number 161. In between there was Burt Reynolds, The Three Stooges, Roseanne, Jim Morrison, and other interesting people.

Mads - Did you watch it? Reese was number 181. Someone even called her America's Sweetheart. It's great that she made it onto the list.

Anyone else watch? What did you think of it? Are you going to tune in tomorrow night?

No, not tonight, but I went to the VH1 website and checked the list and Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable as Scarlett O'Hara and Rhett Butler came in at #95. So be sure to watch VH1 on Wednesday at 10:00pm est because that's when they countdown from 100 - 81 and Vivien will be on that list. :)

I know, but I never realize how popular she really was. I'm surprised that Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen didn't even make it onto the countdown. They are the richest children in America. They've built their own empire, raking in cash with television series and videos and clothes and make-up and bed linens and calendars and barbie dolls, etc. They are billionares. They should be on the damn countdown.

I love that song. It's played at the end of Cruel Intentions when Sarah Michelle Gellar's character gets caught for being a fake while Selma Blair's character is giving out Ryan Phillipe's character's diary and Reese Witherspoon's character is driving away in his car. Great song to end a great movie.

I thought Elvis would be #1. He's famous to everyone, and he's a legend---has all those impersonaters, Graceland, etc.
Oprah is an empire, sure, but I don't think of her as the number #1 pop icon. I just don't.

I dont WANT Oprah to be #1, but when I think about it, I think she deserved it. I mean.. shes huge. Magazines, seminars for $200, Harpo, Dr.Phil, books-- shes helped so many women throughout the years.

Now that you mention it, you do have an excellent point there. She's had her talk show since 1986 and it shows no signs at all of ending any time soon. She's not my fave, either, but I admit it. She's granted so many wishes, all that stuff...she is the reason Dr. Phil has his show now...

Kudos to her!

I agree! These VH1 polls are really off the wall I think. For example; Their choice for #1 teen idol of all time is Britney Spears! She hasn't been around long enough to qualify for that. Not even the obvious such as The Beatles, Ricky Nelson, Bobby Rydell, Frankie Avalon, Fabian, Bobby Darin,Brenda Lee, Connie Francis(I could go on and on but I won't;) were even mentioned! And they were huge stars! I thought that was criminal!

Well, I was a teenager 99-now so of course Britney is my #1 teen pop star idol. She tops Forbes list as one of the most powerful people in Hollywood. Love her or hate her, shes worth BIG bucks. She hasnt been around for awhile, but it didnt take her long to be where she is today.

Watching this now (again) I now realize that Larry Hagman is..... HOT.

I cannot even put INTO words how incredibly INSANE that countdown IS!!! On Entertainment Tonight they revealed the top ten on Saturday night and when the Beatles didn't even make it in the Top 10 I knew this countown was the S H I T T I E S T possible.

I remember some countdown... most influencial people, and Oprah was in the top 5 of that one. "Most Influencial" makes sense because of the empire she has. But that doesn't make someone the biggest POP Icon. This countdown is totally off-based. It needs to burn. BURN, BURN, BURN. :livid:

Janice

I think that the Top 5 should have been Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, The Beatles, Michael Jackson and Madonna.

Oprah belongs on a Forbes or Fortune 500 list along with Donald Trump, Bill Gates and Ted Turner, but I don't see her as a pop icon.

That's a pretty even balance for the Top 5 - one from each decade...Weirdo or not, you know Michael Jackson is one of the best singers around, even if he screwed up his face and let himself go white... :)

I think top 5 should be: (in NO order) Elvis, Marilyn, Lucy, Michael Jackson, Beatles. Eh ok thats only 4. Then again, I think Fonzie is better than 99. :o But Brady Bunch made #8? Or was it #9. Ah well. Thats awesome. They totally deserve it.
