Thats very interesting BlairW_09. I just don't like the first season because Jo isn't in it. I simply go nuts If I can't look at Jo every day.Luckly I had printed several pictures of her off the internet days before it started over so I didn't have to get placed in the loony bin-yet LOL. But your right, the first season just wasn't that good.

yeah, they all bugged me, too. (no offense to ppl who like the 1st season people). even in last nite's ep, sue ann was like yelling her whole 2 lines. molly ringwald seemed a little bit better as an actress, but she still wasn't that great. lol. i thought cindy was ok, but like u said, she didn't really fit in. and nancy (is that her name? with the roger boyfriend?) was just really annoying. lol.

Her name is Molly Ringwald(ring a bell) she was once considered miss teenage america after she left the show and became a household movie star!

Nancy, cindy and sueann were needed to keep balance in the show and should of made alot more cameos to make eastland more realistic. This was a girls school after all with more than four students! i though they all were good considering how the writers treated there characters.

I liked the first season girls and the first season is actually my second favorite

::awaits attacks by other board members::

I liked it when they cameod and stuff...and it is kinda cool knowing that someone who started on "Facts" became a movie star. I liked the whole "Roger" concept because i always love offscreen characters.....Jenny Picalo...Mr Bell....the door man from Rhoda

If "The Facts Of Life" were all about you, why weren't u ever on the show?

I don't even watch the first season. I don't think that it has anything to do with the girls, its just that the writing is so horrible.

Jinny: i didn't say i was giving up sex, i just said i was giving up men! to tell you the truth i kinda like the idea of becoming intamate with something that comes with a money-back gaurentee!

Blair: thunder thighs is hanging up her spikes...
Sue Ann: and you just gave me a great idea were to put them

If you know me, you know how I feel about the 1st season..........I LIKE IT! It was cute. I agree that the girls should've made more cameos. Nancy was becoming more defined in later episodes and a little more significant.

Season 1 reminded me of Spice Girls, because of everyone's personality. Can you imagine if one of the plotlines of season 1 was them starting a girl band?

Molly could be Ginger Spice (cause of her red hair), Cindy could Sporty Spice (most athletic), Blair could be Posh Spice (always obsessed about her looks but I could see Nancy as her too), and Sue Ann could Scary Spice (she could be super confrontational and sassy) and Tootie could Baby Spice (cause she was the baby).

But seriously, I'm not a huge fan of season 1 because it just didn't click for me. It felt like all the girls were lacking character development and were simply just archetypes of something. It also felt like season 1 was really having hard time balancing style and substance. How can you take a show seriously when the girls are in skimpy hot pants taking on heavy themes? It also didn't help that that the writing and the acting chops were barely there. And the only adult I could stand on the show in season 1 was Mrs. Garrett...she was a hoot! Mr. Bradley and Emily were just so dull and wooden.

Sorry, but I just didn't find season 1 compelling and is my least favorite season (yes, I'd rather watch season 9 over season 1 any day).

Not me! I'll take Season One over Pippa and Beverly Ann yammering on and on any day!

For me, Season One is Classic "Facts"... the later seasons, with those add-on characters no-one asked for, are not as good. Though I make an exception for Mrs. G's wedding and "The Little Chill".

Also, I love your Spice Girls concept!

Well, it's not fair to liken Beverly Ann with Pippa. Beverly Ann was actually entertaining. Pippa was just wasted space.

I feel the same way. I hardly ever put season 1 on when I rewatch the show. The Facts of Life for majority of fans like myself started with season 2 when Jo was added. The writing was better and the characters weren't silly little girls running around in short shorts for pedophiles to enjoy. I also agree with what you said about lacking character development. That's the problem with big casts. There isn't enough time to properly write all the characters with meaningful backgrounds. The show clicked when it was just the four main girls. Even though season 9 was so out of place with its crappy stories for the girls, they were still better to watch than what was given in season 1.

Season 8 Beverly Ann was very entertaining. Season 9 Beverly Ann was alright. I don't feel she was needed that season and was out of place. I agree about Pippa especially since the writers had the four main girls treating her like crap.

I can't watch the series starting with season 2. I have to watch season 1. It's organic, and I grew up with those classic seasons 1-4 in daytime syndication when I was little.

Seasons 1-4 are classic, with Seasons 5-6 pretty good. The later seasons aren't great. I can't imagine a FOL without a Season One, which introduced us to many wonderful characters.

Agreed, plus they all appear in other seasons and seasons 5 and 8 even flashback to some of those episodes.

Yep; that's one reason I never much cared for the "season one girls" appellation some people once used: can't really be a "season one girl" if you're seen in five seasons of the show.

Hey i totally agree with you: there wouldn't have been FOL without the season 1 girls! sure they all wore hot pants, but it was the late 1970 s lol! The dialogues were super, and the lessons those girls learned form MRS GARRET were priceless! My favourite episode is 'Rough housing', because it puts BLAIR right in the spotlight, when she learns a valuable lesson from the housemother about not judging on 'appearances' (in fact that was the episode that broke the ice between them!). From then on, BLAIR begins to look up to MRS G and the two of them become quite close....
Until JO arrives, and then her attention reverts on the 'tomboy' hee hee!

IMO, the worst character addition happened in the Edna's Edibles seasons with that annoying twerp "Kelly" and her weird obsession with Jo. She was very creepy. I liked "Boots" in those seasons. She was funny.

Hey Valentina! Welcome!

Yes, Rough Housing is a GREAT episode: not only do we get a good icebreaker between Blair and Mrs. Garrett, as you say, we also get the spoiled-pretty-girl-vs.-awkward-tomboy dynamic which would become the centerpiece of the series.

But Cindy gets more screen time and more dialogue, so it's more her episode. ;) Blair gets the next one all to herself.

The writing was pretty bad and didn’t serve the actresses well. But that said, the actress who played Sue Ann was cringeworthy.
