the shortest spinoff. It only lasted 4 and a half months and wasn't renewed for the following season. It called Blansky Beauties and it aired on ABC as a mid-season replacement in February of 1977. Has anyone ever seen this spinoff?

I Have heard alot of times that The charactor Arnold on their was very similar to the one on Happy Days. Aside from the obvious Pat Morita playing a Restaurant Owner named Arnold, was it actually the same character?

According to The Complete Directory to Primetime Network and Cable TV Shows book I bought:

"Pat Morita, after the failure of his series "Mr. T and Tina", was added to the cast as Arnold, the same name (and virtually the same character) he had in a similar supporting role on "Happy Days." There he has run a drive-in restaurant, while here he ran the coffee shop at the Oasis. (Nancy, in turn, was supposed to be the cousin of Happy Days' dad Howard Cunningham.)

It also lists the cast:
Lynda Goodfriend as Ethel "Sunshine" Akalino
Eddie Mekka as Joey DeLuca
Scott Baio as Anthony DeLuco
Pat Morita as Arnold (They didn't give his last name)

Now those are clearly not the same characters they played on "Happy Days" and for Eddie, L&S.

Nancy Walker appeared on Happy Days as Nancy Blansky on 2-04-77 the very next week, Blansky's Beauties debuted on ABC. I don't consider this show to be a spinoff because obviously the character didn't have time to develope on Happy Days and it doesn't make sense to introduce a character in one episode and give her a show of her own the next week. Mork appeared at least 3 times before Mork & Mindy debuted. Nancy Blansky may have been introduced on Happy Days but that's about it.

I never really understood how this series could be considered a spin-off. Yes, Pat Morita played a coffee shop owner named Arnold (more lack of imagination on the part of the writers then anything) and they came up with this lame connection that Nancy was Howard's cousin, but come on...Happy Days was set in 1950s Millwaukee and Blansky's Beauties was set in 1977 Las Vegas. How is it Arnold and Nancy hadn't aged nearly 20 years?

A perfect analysis of why Blansky's Beauties is not a spinoff from Happy Days.:)

wasn't Mork and Mindy also set in the 70's? And Fonzie was in the pilot- so unless mork is a good time traveller, how did it happen? Maybe I haven't seen the episode that explains that- I dunno- I've only seen Mork's first happy days appearance/

I thought it was explained that Mork did time travel to the 1970's, but I don't have any explanation for why Fonzie was in the pilot. But of course, Richie and the gang spent three seasons in 11th grade, so accuracy is not one of their high points.

Sorry wrong Again, Mork Only appeared on Happy Days once before he was spinned off into his own show. Mork appeared on Happy Days in the Spring of 1978 and his show started in the Fall of 1978. Mork made another appearance on Happy Days in the Spring of 1979 which was his last. Mork made two appearances Total. Nancy Blansky didn't appear on Happy Days again I guess because her show was a failure.

You're absolutley right Analyzer, He did appear only once before the debut of Mork & Mindy and once after. My apologies.:)

I'm curious. What years did Happy Days span....is there a definite time or was it left vague? If it was vague, it could have gone a little into the 60s.

I think maybe 'Blansky Beauties' could be considered a spin-off, but because they cast Scott Baoi in it as a whole new character, I think it defeats the purpose- unless you consider it to be like those 1950's sci-fi sequels where the plot has nothing to do with the original, the only thing the same is the cast.
Who's The Boss had two spin-offs, one I can remember was 'Living Dolls' and the characters from it appeared only briefly- the girl in Living dolls played like 4 different guest roles in who's the boss- so obviously her characters weren't memorable. I think the other spin-off had a bit more to do withthe show cos it was about Samanthas best friend.
Cheers had 'The Tortellis' and 'Married with children' was a big violator with 'Top of the heap'. You can kinda spot when a sitcom episode has been made to help launch a new show, for 'Top of the heap' episode in married with children the bundys where in the ep for like 2 minutes.

Scott Baio did not play the role of Chachi until the Fall of 1977. When Baio was on Blansky Beauties, it was the Spring of 1977 which was before the Chachi character existed.

Fact is:the character of Mork from Ork is a time traveller. In Mork's second appearance on Happy Days he told Richie that he (Mork) travelled back in time from the 1970's to see Richie.

My guess it was probably an ad-lib by Robin Williams. Ron Howard remarked in the A&E Biography special on "Happy Days" that Robin threw the script out the window and ad-libbed most of his stuff. It was probably Robin trying to be cute.

As for Blansky's Beauties , it was NOT a Happy Days spin-off. They put Nancy on HD to try and promote her show once it was on. And it was set in the 1950s, with the Arnold character being the same as the one in HD. As for the fact that it may have looked like it was set in the 70s, take a look at HD after the first two seasons. Gradually, they abandoned period detail and let Ralph have an afro and Chachi got to wear a shag haircut and a jeans jacket.

I don't remember if Blansky's Beauties was any good, but I do remember having the hots for Caren Kaye and Lynda Goodfriend. When Lynda ended up on HD, they made her look a plain good girl. Though she violated the 50s fashion later on with her 80s perm and skintight clothes in the later years when Richie was in the army.

I always wondered if Fonzie was really the father of Lori Beth's child....

Blansky Beauties was a spinoff because the character Nancy Blansky was Howard Cunningham's cousin who got her own show 8 days after she appeared on Happy Days.

They already had the show in the can - putting Blansky on HD was merely a crossover to promote her show. Now, take the characters of Laverne & Shirley. They appeared on HD and the response to their characters was so strong, they put together a show for them. That was a legitimate spinoff. Same with Mork. Those two were conceived as guest appearances.

Anyone can say what they want, but Blansky's Beauties was not a Happy Days spinoff and that's my final word on the matter.

First of all, it's a spin off in which, none of the main characters ever appeared in any way shape or form on the original show. Instead it's the location that ties the new show to the old - the house where the Bunker family lived. The only character tie to the old show was in the first episode when Joey Stivic, Archie Bunker's grandson, came by to visit his grandparents' former home.

704 Hauser Street was a sitcom about a black family that was living in Archie Bunker's former home. The idea was to make a show very much like All In The Family but updating it for a new generation.[B]

I never got to see the show, because it wasn't on very long as I remember. However, I did love the irony of a black man living in Archie Bunker's house.

How can be a crossver and Blansky Beauties did not start on ABC yet? Usually a crossover is when a character appears on a set of another show as their original character while their show is already in existence.

Morks' appearance on Happy Days was explained as a time travel experience. Once he got his new show (Mork & Minday).....it WAS brought into modern time. I believe Mork made a reference to his experience in the past (his time on Happy Days).

As for Blanskies Beauties.....Nancy's character was introduced first on Happy Days and then a week later, Blanskies Beauties aired.

All rules claim that if a character branches out from one show into their own show as the same character...it's a spin-off of the original show. In other words....an extension of the original show....just like Laverne & Shirley and Mork & Mindy. All characters are a part of the same universe and can crossover at any point.

HOWEVER....since Blanskies Beauties had some of the same ACTORS from Happy Days and Laverne & Shirley, they did NOT play the same characters. Scott Baio did NOT play Chachi and Eddie Mekka did NOT play Carmine.

This is why the show is so often debated as to whether it's a spinoff or not.

I remember the show airing on tv, and I watched it. It was HORRIBLE. I gave up.....but it WAS promoted as a spin off.

Scott Baio would not have played Chachi on Blansky's Beauties because the character didn't exist yet. Chachi was created AFTER Blansky's Beauties had been cancelled.

Can anybody help explain to me why Blansky's Beauties wasn't set in the 1950s like Happy Days and Laverne & Shirley, even though both shows were meant to be connected? Maybe, Garry Marshall didn't want to be pigeonholed as a guy who only made period piece sitcoms, hence why Blansky's Beauties was set in the then present day of 1977. But as I said in a previous post (https://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showpost.php?p=6129774&postcount=54), trying to make sense of the timeline between the three shows doesn't make a lick of sense. Blansky's Beauties simply couldn't explain away the time discrepancies like Mork & Mindy was able to do with its blatant sci-fi bent.

Happy Days didnt exist in the Blansky Beauties universe since it was supposed to be in the future. The crossover with Laverne and Shirley was Nancy remembering her travels to Milwaukee 20 years in the past when she met Laverne.

Blansky's Beauties (https://happydays.fandom.com/wiki/Blansky%27s_Beauties) did exist in the Happy Days universe and vice versa. Nancy Walker (https://happydays.fandom.com/wiki/Nancy_Walker) appeared as (https://happydays.fandom.com/wiki/The_Third_Anniversary_Show) Nancy Blansky (https://happydays.fandom.com/wiki/Nancy_Blansky) on Happy Days. She was explained as being Howard Cunningham's cousin. Also, Pat Morita (https://happydays.fandom.com/wiki/Pat_Morita) was on Blansky's Beauties as presumably, his character on Happy Days, Arnold (https://happydays.fandom.com/wiki/Arnold_Takahashi).

Blansky's Beauties would've been in the Happy Days universe by default anyway since Laverne & Shirley, was of course, spun-off from Happy Days. In other words, without Happy Days, there wouldn't have been Laverne & Shirley to begin with.

How do we know that Blansky's Beauties didn't have a sci-fi bent?

Maybe Garry Marshall was plotting his own "Marshall-Verse" and we just never saw the plans and outlines for it!

Nahh!
