I found this article online today about Ron Howard and his upcoming new TV series, "Arrested Development." There is a mention of his getting together with Andy and Don Knotts for a reunion special to air in November. The whole article can be found here.

Here is the part that applies to the reunion.

...And while you can take the boy out of Mayberry you can never take Mayberry out of the boy. He meets up with old pals Andy Griffith and Don Knots next week to tape an Andy Griffith reunion special, scheduled to air this November on CBS.

POLL: Which is greatest TV show in history?
HOLLYWOOD - After 35 years in reruns, Mayberry will return to prime time for one night this year as part of CBS's 75th anniversary.
The network said Sunday that actors Andy Griffith, Don Knotts, Jim Nabors and Ron Howard will do an hour-long retrospective of "The Andy Griffith Show," which ran from 1960 to 1968.
Interspersed with cast interviews will be memorable scenes from the series ("Citizen's a-rayest, citizen's a-rayest!"), which focused on life in fictional Mayberry, N.C., and made the town a cultural touchstone for simple, down-home values.
CBS also is planning an hour-long salute to another 1960s comedy, "The Dick Van Dyke Show," but the Mayberry reunion is expected to be one of the prime anniversary events.
"When you look at these retrospectives, it's at the top of our list," said Nancy Tellem, president of CBS Entertainment. "How could you not love `The Andy Griffith Show'?"
No date has yet been set for the telecast.

I saw the show last night. I loved it. I'm surprised along with the Andy, Ron, Don and Jim they didn't have George Lindsey on the set. I wonder why? I never get tired of that show. Don Knotts is a comedic genious! I'm glad I watched the show last night, I needed a good laugh. I wanna move to Mayberry!

I loved it. Lots of good memories. Wish I could see the Andy & Opie statue. Oh, and what's the other TV Land Landmark? I know there's the Mary statue in Minneapolis, and now the Andy and Opie statue. Does anybody know? I liked it when Jim walked in the courthouse set, he said "Well, Golly!!" Don looks like he's getting old, to me. Oh, and I was surprised also that George Lindsey wasn't on. It would've been great to see him.

I really enjoyed last night,s show too. It,s always fascinating to see the actors as they are today,in contrast to the shows themselves. My guess is that their reunion in the original police station set, took place in Paramount Television studios.Desilu studios had been bought out by Paramount Television towards the end of the 1960s.It was such a sweet gentle series.I loved it.And still do of course. We never saw any extracts from any of the color episodes.I guess they weren,t as popular as the original black and white shows.I know that by the time the show switched to color,Don Knotts had left the series.Though he did return in one color episode.

I think Don Knotts returned for a guest spot in each of the 3 color seasons. But anyway, although I did enjoy seeing the remaining actors, I just don't swallow that they remembered so many scenes in detail, nor that they are really that thick and friendly. And their rememberances of Frances Bavier really contrasted with what they have said before, that she was very moody and easily offended; so much that shortly before her death she called AG to apologize for having been so difficult. At any rate, though, "Mayberry" was quite a success and can still be milked because the Mayberry "State of Mind" does still have appeal.

There are a lot of possible reasons that George Lindsey (and Betty Lynn and Howard Morris) only appeared in short isolated tapings. I remember GL was in an interview not too many years ago in which he said the entire cast "feared" Andy; this may or may not have had anything to do it. And also, we don't know how difficult it may really have been for any of them to appear, with health problems and all.

i watched the andy griffith show reunion as i am sure most of america did. i sat there laughing and also with a tear in my eye because i knew i was watching my childhood memories of the show. i am very happy that for a time in america, there was a show that sent a message of family, love and concern for each other. seems to me that we have lost sight of those values. the show reminded you each week, that caring for each other is ok. even when the person was the town drunk or an evil old man who would'nt let on that he really wasn'nt so bad.(ben- the christmas episode) where he was outside the jail looking in and singing a carol with the others who were inside. i loved the show, i thank andy, barney, opie ,aunt bee and the others for coming into my living room each week and making me smile. as i'm sure lots of other folk did, as the show closed, i whistled the theme song.

I watched it and really enjoyed it. I wish they had mentioned Leon . I was expecting Clint Howard to walk in with a sandwich for Don. The only thing I hated was that it was given a PG rating.

The only thing I hated was that it was given a PG rating.

Yeah; what for? Because they showed the scene where Opie hit Barney in the stomach at Barney's insistence?

I saw the special. I thought it was well done. I did expect to see more actors who played ( a fun gal, ellie or little leon) in the courthouse. I was waiting for Ernest T to throw a styrofoam rock at Andy or Barney. But I guess the actors are getting older and they may live states away> I can tell Jim dyes his hair. Hard to image that Andy was in his thirties when the show was on.

Well, I had set my VCR to record the special and imagine my surprise when I got home to find out our local station had replaced the CBS Andy Griffith Reunion with a KU basketball game. I don’t see how they can do that. I was really upset.

Does anybody have a copy on VHS or DVD? I'd be more then willing to pay.

Thanks, Skinny

Hey Skinny, Try calling the CBS affiliate that aired the ball game instead of The Reunion Special. Whenever an affiliate preempts normally scheduled programming, they usually tape it for later broadcast. It's also possible that they have a website with a programming schedule, you may want to check that because they could be airing it this weekend.
