John Mahoney should win. David Hyde Pierce has already won like two or three Emmys, but John Mahoney has never won. He deserves it.

David Hyde Pierce has won 3 Emmys, and been nominated 10 times for best supporting actor in a comedy (and holds a record of 18 SAG nominations and 2 wins) and frankly, IMO deserved to win more than just three Emmys. John Mahoney is an excellent actor (and doesn't lack in recognition with his Tony award and several Drama Desk noms for his work in live theatre), but DHP has clearly taken the character of "Niles" and made it something much more than just what was written in the script. In a Frasier cast of absolute *stellar* actors, DHP can and does outshine them all IMO. :-))

Saying DHP has won 2 or 3 already and thus shouldn't win another one (and conversely John M. hasn't won any, so should win this one) defeats the purpose of choosing the winner on merit. Although the Emmys today are *rife* with politics, marketing and sympathy votes, the ideal behind it was to recognize actors on merit not "fair" distribution of statues. If you use that argument to get Mahoney his Emmy then you might as well just drop the competion aspect of the awards and rotate the honours among a selected list of candidates.
