This was the first episode in last night's "Viewer Appreciation" block, but my cable system was having problems during the first half-hour and I missed getting the "Lynch Party" episode.

I've never seen this episode, but the description has always baffled me, as I can't imagine Davis actually believing that he and Helen were still engaged after all that time....Didn't he ever CALL her?

Could someone here please give me a description of this episode? How did the Davis-Helen situation play out? How did they explain the long lapse of time between Helen's engagement to Joe and now?

I missed that ep last night, too. From what I remember, Helen did go the Davis's place after Joe proposed, told Davis she had a disease called Faulkner's(she got that from seeing a book at Davis's from William Faulkner). I think Davis then had to go on a business trip and was captured and held hostage in another country. That explained why we never heard from him. I think Davis expected Helen to wait for him all that time.

Hey, I need some help, too. I fell asleep on the couch and left the VCR on last night. That's how I'm able to get more cable channels on my TV, through the VCR. Anyhoo, when the VCR is still on, it doesn't tape. So I woke up at 3:30, so I missed the 1st 3. I looked on Nick@Nite a few days ago for the eps, but I don't remember what they are now. Of course, I know the 1st one being about Davis, but what were the 2nd & 3rd one?:thanks: :woohoo: :bonk: :ducky:

Wow! That is a great memory Phoebe7165! I remembered very little of the episode until I watched it again, but your wrap up is almost exact. Personally I still wish the writers had brought Davis back earlier and dealt with the Joe/Davis awarkness about Helen differently, but oh well...

Hey, thanks, losthighway!! After writing what a great memory I have, I vaguely remember the one where Antonio's a chauffeur. I do remember the sister city one. There is much said about how the last 2 seasons weren't as good. True, but I still find I enjoy those eps and there are some good moments. The look on Brian's face when he wants George Kennedy to do his character on 'Airport', and he doesn't think he's going to do it. One thing I have noticed is that we all know how 'anal' Joe always is, and he uses some of that retentiveness(is that even a word?) towards Helen and Helen always makes some kind of crack about it. You'd think she'd be used to it by now, having known him all those years. I especially liked when 'somebody'(Helen) messed up Joe's schedule board and the drawing on it.:lol: :D :p ;)

Take it from me, Helen's attitude towards Joe's "quirks" are VERY realistic!
I have a tendency to get very excitable about things...and yes, sometimes to excessively worry and stress out about things. My wife knew this about me YEARS ago, but she STILL ribs me about it and calls me "Spaz Man"!
(You know, the more I think about it, Joe and Helen's married relationship resembles the married relationship that I have with my wife in several aspects....now THAT'S frightening!)

So how did "Lynch Party" end up? How did Davis react when Helen told him that she was married to Joe? THAT'S the part that I'm REALLY interested in finding out!

Pilotguy, for me anyway, the wrap-up was a little disappointing. Basically what happens is after Helen and everybody else goes to ridiculous extremes to keep Joe from seeing Davis, they still end up seeing each other in the terminal.

Joe starts asking Davis what he is doing there and Davis starts saying he came to see Helen and Joe is wanting to know why he is there to see HIS wife, and of course Davis is shocked to learn Helen is married to Joe.

Meanwhile Helen is standing next to them during the conversation and when both of them turn to Helen for an explanation she just yells out "Faulkners" and collapses to the ground as if she is having an episode. Then they cut to the credits.

Helen's so cute that it still makes me smile, but I would have much preferred more of a direct confrontation and explanation. Even the sappy, romantic side of me wouldn't have minded seeing a scene where Helen just explained her strong feelings she had for Joe. Or it could have been kept lighter, but just something more where Helen explained her feelings and actions a bit.

That bit with 'Faulkner's' is a joke between my sister & me. Whenever we're watching Jeopardy and William Faulkner comes up as the answer, or in Jeopardy's case, question. "Who is William Faulkner, Alex?", it's then that we both say Faulkner's, and say it just like Helen did. Sad, I know, but my sister & I are on the same wavelength alot of the times.party: :spit: :mooner: :groucho

I didn't see the episode, but that ending sounds like a real cop-out!
I can understand using the "abrupt ending" for certain episodes and situations, but I think that viewers deserved a better wrap-up to the Joe-Helen-Davis triangle situation.

Well, I think the ending of that episode is great. I love it when Helen yells out "Faulkners!" and then falls. It simply makes me laugh out loud. I loved her on that show.

yeah, I usually don't like abrupt endings like that, But I liked that one. I thought it was so hilarious, the look Helen had on her face while she was standing in between Joe and Davis when they were talking, and then when they finaly looked at Helen for an explanation, she yelled, "Faulkners!" and fell on the ground. hahahaha!
I didn't really feel like much more was needed to the end of the episode. I was ok with assuming that everyone got an explanation and that it all worked out fine.
