An article in USA Today (http://www.usatoday.com/life/television/news/2003-07-15-tv-dvd_x.htm) contained a wealth of release information for previously unannounced shows. Here's the list:
General Hospital
All My Children
Northern Exposure
The Critic
King Of Queens
Barney Miller
Also mentioned was Seinfeld (we brought you news on this previously) and confirmation that Alias: Season 2 will be out in early December. We assume that the two soaps listed will be "Best of" discs, since season sets of a soap opera don't make any sense at all. We wish we had information on who was releasing Northern Exposure, but unfortunately it wasn't included in the article.

I can't wait. I hope it's a "Complete First Season" set and not just a "best of" compilation. But either way, I'll buy it!
That's the best news I've heard all week:D

I would hope so too.
The hard part is if it comes out as a 5 episode best of dvd.
You know you want to buy it, but you don't know if a few months later they will release the first season.
If it does come out as a "best of" I would suggest everyone buy it so it sells well enough to warrant a season by season release.

I agree. If it comes out as a "best of", buy it! That's the only way we will get full seasons of Barney Miller is if we buy the DVDs. The popularity of the compilations sometimes does lead to a season set- this has happened with several shows.
But I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a season set anyway :)

There were only 12 or 13 eps in season one, so its a pretty good bet. besides, i voted for a full season release about 8000 times, lol.

Last summer USAToday revealed (http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=530) that Barney Miller was on it's way to DVD. No timeline or other information was given; just that the almost 30-year-old show was in-the-pipe for digital release.
Columbia has let it be known that on November 10th they will themselves publicly announce their Barney Miller - The First Season DVD set, which is when you'll find out when you can buy it, how much it costs, and what they will do to promote this beloved classic show's first DVD release.
There is some preliminary artwork floating around that is just a "placeholder" thing, and not the final cover art at all. The studio was very specific in saying that the package shown was subject to be changed. So don't put any stock in unofficial art or info, and tune in to TVShowsOnDVD the morning of Nov. 10th to find out when you can join the force and hang out with Hal Linden as Captain Barney Miller, and also Wojo, Harris, Yemana, Luger, and Abe Vigoda as Det. Fish.
I just got an email from tvshowsondvd.com about it. I am so excited:D November 10th I can't wait.
