Actually, the name is Irish. I don't know about Nancy's roots, but the name can be traced back to Ireland.

Nancy's Intimate Portrait said that her family was Irish-Catholic.

I myself am of Irish descent, and the name McKeon is from Ulster in Northern Ireland. It acutally is an Americanized name, and there are several different original spellings, like MacKeown and McKean.

The surname is of Scottish descent, from Eoin Barrett,a Scottish mercenary in Ireland in the 13th century..a'gallowglass'(hence McEoin, which became McKeon and other versions over time-------which happened in Ireland, before the immigration to America......).Remember the '40 million Irish in America' is a myth.......50 to 58% of those decendants are Protestant by religion, and are in fact Scottish/Ulster Scottish(who were Protestant)by heritage not Irish Catholic, and many people wearing green every March are celebrating the wrong country and heritage, having become Catholic by intermarriage in the States.
