Last night on "the new girl part 2" blair threw a pie in margos face..couldnt jo say thank yoiu? jo is still the best..but she was sorta mean!

As much as I love love love Jo I was thinking the same thing. The whole episode I was just like WHOA cool it. Ya know? I guess thats what the writers wanted but....Her crying ability was amazing!

I know, all this time I've been saying how mean Blair was, but Jo was definitely worse. Blair was actually making an effort to be friends with her, something Jo never did.

We saw the same thing in Pat 1 though... Blair offered to share her clothes, and Jo made the snide remark about bringing them in.... I enjoyed Part 1 just a little more. I found the character of Jo in Part 2 to be a shameless rip-off of Fonzie... Alas, like a fine wine, she gets better with age.

Blair and Jo really were good friends, they just fought all the time. Jo makes fun of Blair, Blair makes fun of Jo. Jo was never really mean to Blair, they just fought so much that you would think they weren't friends. Besides, I think Blair liked it, because in Four Musketeers, she said that her new friends never fought with her and you could tell that she didn't like it.

The Jo/Blair friendship always intruged me...
I mean Jo was very defensive when she first came to Eastland, not wanting to get close to anyone or show her emotion... But at the same time she stuck up for them. Like in the jail when that girl snatched Blair's watch...
I just always found it interesting between Blair and Jo, because we all know deep down they cared for each other, but neither of them wanted to show it. I actually think in the earilier years Blair showed it more than Jo, but when they got older I think Jo showed it more... Blair covered it up some.

It's just very confusing but very fun to watch! Gotta luv Blair and Jo!

Let's all keep in mind a couple things about when those episodes aired.

- It was the introduction to Jo. I'm sure the writers had the basic idea of her character, and knew that she would be Blair's opposite. But they didn't know how fans would react, so they probably tried it this way to see.

- Likewise, I'm sure that bringing McKeon on was a little tough for the original girls, especially since they had to appear a few times in the second season, knowing that they had been issued their walking papers. So the three girls remaining (Cohn, Fields, Whelchel) may have had a bit of animosity towards McKeon when she came on board. She was coming, but the others were going.

- I thought the shows did a good job of showing how tough Jo could be, as well as how vulnerable she was as well.

All in all, they just had to push her out on the stage, say "Act!," and see what happens. Characters aren't really made overnight... they, just like everyone, have to evolve with time.

Just a few thoughts... anyone else?

Someone posted about how it was weird Jo not being able to say thank you to Blair after Blair stuck up for her with the whole pie incident.

My take on the situation was that Jo probably had to always act tough in her neighborhood, therefore it was probably ingrained in her that any sign that she needed anyone else's help (like she couldn't handle the situation by herself) or if she showed any emotions in front of other people were signs of "weakness". You notice how she instantly went on the offensive after talking about "her and Eddie" when Blair made a comment something along the lines of "Jo actually being a softie". (Sorry, I know that what Blair really said was stated WAY differently, but you get the idea.)

So anyways.. that's my take on the situation. Jo probably felt she had to act tough in front of everyone, because that's what she was used to in her neighborhood. Therefore, no thankyous to Blair because she wants to make it clear.. She doesn't need ANYONE's help.

I agree with pretty much everthing people have said on this thread.

-On one side, I thought Blair was being really great by defending her. Jo should have thanked her. Also in "Double Standard" when Blair wants to beat up Harris, that really was nice of her...but Jo did hold her back and kinda thank her.

-On the other hand, these were the first few eps with the new cast, and the writers were trying to establish Jo's character and personality. I also agree with Mystery Jo Fan...growing up poor in the Bronx Jo would probably have had to be tough. Any sign of weakness might've gotten her killed, IF we're to believe that was the way she lived. But with time she really softened...I like Jo in later years better.

I am also in agreement with Mystery Jo Fan. Jo probably did have to be very tough to survive in the Bronx which is probably why she never liked to show any sign of weakness. I knew someone from my classes in college who grew up poor in the Bronx and acted the same way until you got to know her.

I too agree w/ Mystery. That was just the way Jo is (was). Take into consideration also that it sometimes is hard to say thank you to someone who you may have been given a rough time to, even after they help you out. In the end of the episode, she made it quite clear that sge was her own person, etc., but we all know she really was grateful to Blair and Mrs. G. Am I right? That was just Jo's defense mechanism while adjusting to a completely different way of life, at least IMO. That is what made her character intresting, and more fun to watch evolve.
