Yeah no kidding. Britney Spears doesn't even sing live. That's her "back-up" singers job.

I loved Mariah until she started shoving rappers in your face all the time. Her fanbase is more of the Celine type than the Snoop type, and she can't understand that. If she ever decided to ditch the rappers, I might become a fan again, but I don't like rap period, much less with Mariah forcing us to listen to it.

is there anyone on this list who hasn't had a hit in the past 5 years? it looks more like a fan-written list than a real list. Basically the entire list consists of current artists, and it seems like whoever wrote it was playing favorites moreso than actual stats. Avril in the top 10 and Patti Labelle and Chaka Khan aren't even in the list? Crack is whack kids.

Luther and Madonna both deserve to be higher than they are. Madonna's not the greatest vocalist, but anyone whose heard Evita or Something To Remember knows she can sing when she wants to, especially since J-Lo is higher.

So Jennifer Love Hewitt is #70 and James Taylor doesn't make the list. Right.

I think the list was compiled by a teen. It looked more like someone picking their fave artists out instead of actually listing great vocalists. There are some great vocalists on there (Mariah, Celine, etc...), but the list seems more fixed in favor of TRL than in reality. Britney made a list of great singers and Aretha, Patti, Chaka, Linda Ronstadt, Annie Lennox, Olivia Newton-John and Barbara Streisand didn't? Avril makes the top 10? J-Lo (the worst vocalist we've seen since Paula Abdul) ranked higher than Madonna (who I admit is not the best vocalist, but even with a cold she could blow Lopez offstage)? Luther only made the 80's and Elton and Sting are only in the 40's? Tina's not even in the top 40. This list is a complete joke and looks more like a TRL voted list than one actual adult music fans choosing the best singers. Because believe it or not, there was a lot of great music that was around before 1998 (seems like every artist on the list has had at least one hit in the past 5 years), check it out.

Is this an actual list from Billboard or something, or is it just something that was slapped together by a board member?

The reason I ask is simple: I, as well as many others who have stated their opinion in this thread, disagree with the entire list.

As stated above, this looks more like a teenage girl's list of her favorite artists than a comprehensive, balanced list of the greatest voices of all time (or even just of the present).

I was thinking the same exact thing, Jrnygrl!! Jennifer Love Hewitt over Freddie?!! I have nothing against Jennifer but even if she continued singing for the next 20 years, she couldn't even compare to him, or Steve(I was never much of a fan of Marvin). 3 more singers with incredible voices who were omitted Geoff Tate of Queensryche, Chris Cornell(more with Soundgarden than with Audioslave), & James Labrie of Dream Theater.

Seems like this list was made up of the 'flavor of the month', and so many other great singers were left off.

BTW, I never even heard of this Cove magazine.

I agree that that list is horrible, Avril while I like her music, is no amazing live singer/performer, some of the others you guys have listed to be on that list should definitely be on there instead. I mean, I agree with people like Christina Aguilera b/c she has an incredible voice, but some of the people on that list are ridiculous.

Oh! And what about Amy Lee? She sounds amazing live, has a gorgeous and strong voice and has INCREDIBLE stage prescence, especially for someone without fancy dances and stuff, amazing amazing stage prescence.
