I uesd to think Golf was one of the most boring things to watch on TV.
Then I started playing.

I guess like many sports, you really need to play it to appreciate it.

That's true. Tennis is a lot of fun once you start playing it but it can sometimes be boring to watch on TV.

I agree. I can't stand watching golf on TV, it's so boring, but I've been playing for about 5 years and could seriously spend everyday on a golf course.

True, golf is walking and more of a game than a sport. But your legs do get pretty conditioned when you walk 18 holes and carry your clubs on your back. It's funny listening to people complain after they walk a round of golf, especially if they had a pull-cart for their clubs. Personally if I'm going to walk around 3 miles, I'd rather do it playing golf than just walking aimlessly.

So true...And oftentimes, I get stuck in the back of the church. Because I'm bored as hell and in the back of the church, I look around at the back of peoples' heads and I can't help but giggle if I see someone w/ a funny hairstyle or a really bad taste in clothes...I CAN'T HELP IT. I hate how I always get the giggles at public functions where I'm not supposed to talk! :p ;)

I am from Memphis Tennessee and drove or ridden in vehicles on I-40 from and back from Memphis to California and Nevada (lived in Las Vegas). No offense to these fine states but most of Oklahoma into the Texas Panhandle are ungodly, ungodly boring. Hours and hours of the same flat landscape. Passing exits to tiny towns with maybe a truckstop and/or some fast food places. But hours and hours of nothing.

Maybe and I am sure the signs are still there but Texas had warning signs on the route "DUI, YOU CANT AFFORD IT". The sign should have read maybe 'SERIOUSLY, WE KNOW THIS IS INCREDIBLY BORING DRIVING,AND WE KNOW YOU WANT TO, BUT DON'T DRINK, OR WE WILL THROW YOU IN JAIL AND YOU WILL BE MORE BORED."

Driving back from Las Vegas through the Panhandle or Oklahoma in the middle of the night there was absolutely nothing on the radio. AM or FM. Would have been happy listening to anything. Ended up (to stay awake) a religious Pentecostal sermo. PRAISE JESUS! This was after a long time of putting my radio on scan. It was just the middle of nowhere.

I am from Memphis and consider myself from Mississippi (went to college there and lived there) but the drive from Jackson, Mississippi to Memphis, Tn. is also boring as hell. The main thing and I dont know why, but the state planed tall pine trees on either side obscuring the view of the countryside. So it isnt anything but 200 miles of pine trees.

Lastly, about three years ago, I drove with my elderly parents (my father was 88 and his wife, my stepmother was 75, for some reason wasting her retirement on my father) drove from Memphis to Beloit Wisconsin, which was right acoss the border from Illinois. The last city in Illinois before the border was Rockford, the hometown of Cheap Trick! My elderly father mandated like Hitler that we couldnt drive over 60 MPH, even though the speed limit was like 75. I accidentally drove about 70 and he screamed at me.

Oddly from Springfield Illinois (which I would have loved to stopped in because my love of history and the city had a Lincoln museum), there seemingly was NOTHING from Springfield to the Wisconsin line. Nothing. We were on a federal highway but there was no truck stops, McDonalds, nothing. Just corn fields. My stepmother became concerned in the late afternoon because she flet my father needed to eat and rest (he drove after cussing me out) and it was just an expanse of nothing, seriously. I figured Illinois to be a heavily populated state. FINALLY we reach a town with gas. Then we went on to Beloit and the rest of the trip.

They've somehow even managed to ruin one of their best programs, This Old House. It used to be interesting, but has become a crashing bore.

It may be that they've covered everything there is to say, after 40+ seasons.

Well, your one long story on this topic is questionable this is how I see it..

I-40 from Ft Smith Arkansas to Albuquerque is pretty desolate. I remember driving it back when the nationwide speed limit was 55 mph, and on more than one occasion wondered if perhaps I'd died, and just didn't realize it yet.

There is a section of I-40 in Arizona that is downhill and straight for miles that can be fun for the lead footed....but other than that...not much

PBS had some good things. For example, the BBC I Claudius was and still is a favorite series of mine. I saw it as a child because I loved history and found the subject matter fascinating, maybe even if I did not understand it all when I was about eight years old. PBS seemed to show a lot of dramatic BBC series productions like "Upstairs, Downstairs". If you like music and like country music especially there is Austin City Limits.

PBS seemed to be the station of the intellectual and the very intelligent, people with PhD's who lived in the city and were mostly academics. I do know that at least in my city and everywhere else, PBS had a lot of pledge drives since there was no commercials. Seseme Street even back in the early 1970's (mine was the first generation who watched it) was a moneymaker selling toys (I had a Burt puppet) so maybe there was some kind of monetary agreement with Seseme Street and PBS.
