View Full Version : Spider-man series on MTV
Hey cartoon fans, has anyone caught the new Spider-man animated series on MTV?
I must admit I wasn't looking forward to is when I first heard about it, but I think it's pretty good.
The animation is very impressive, I guess it's CG, but it looks like tradtional cel animation.
Thumbs up folks. Catch it if you can.
;)
ConservativeBalla 07-26-2003, 10:29 AM Is it as good as the ones from the '90s on Fox? 'Cuz I loved those.

They're basically picking up the storyline from last year's big screen Spider-man, so the style is different from the 90's series.
If anything, the computer animation really lets Spidey show off his incredible skills.
Hey, I have some of the 60's spiderman cartoon series and all of the 70's live action series with nicholas hammond.
ConservativeBalla 07-28-2003, 11:49 AM I can't say for sure yet, but I would probably like the Fox '90s Spider-Man show better.
W.J. Griffin 07-29-2003, 11:59 PM I did see the new "Spider-Man" series on MTV and I must say I wasn't too impressed with it.
Why, you ask?
1. The Animation...it's basically cgi with black ink lines around it. It's too distracting.
2. The character designs make all the characters look like literal stick-figures...Peter, Harry, Mary Jane, even J. Jonah Jameson all pretty much have the same physique!
3. The stories. Too much flash, not enough substamce.
I know they have to update these characters for new audiences every so often, but jeez, they went overboard on this one. And would it of killed them to come up with a DECENT theme song??
Of course, this is just my opinion, and no one is obligated to take anything I write here as gospel. Still, this show could be better...I guess I was expecting...MORE from these folks, but, being that's it's not about artistic integrity, it's about the Benjamins, this is probably the best I can expect...:(
gonna have to agree. That is the crappiest piece of computer animation I ve ever seen. I hate it. The 60's & 90's sereis are far better than the MTV. You would think with all the lastest technology in computer animation these days. The animators would have cleaned up the graphics. If you 're going to do spiderman at least take something from the comic to base an episode or series upon. Its just bad. I think I d rather watch the power rangers than the MtV spiderman. Cel animation is more detailed as to bad cgi. They are obviously doing it as cheap and as fast as they can. They care nothing about quality of the animation. Hell my ten yr old creates better images of spidey than they do. Give me a break. This is just my opinion.
ConservativeBalla 08-05-2003, 11:16 AM Dude, why does everything have to be computerized and cel-shaded, etc.? Why can't they make a freakn' CARTOOON like the old days?!
Sterling Holobyte 08-05-2003, 11:25 AM I saw a little bit of it and I liked it. But then I usually like anything with computer animation.
I agree 100 percent with ConservativeBaller. Look the animation from 60's submariner, aquaman, spiderman, The Hulk, Iron Man etc Now that's quality animation. Everything was done by hand.
There's far details in the work back then. The only company who has really got it right for computer animation is Pixar. You can noticed the improvements with each film they release. Finding Nemo was impressive. Don Bluth is another fine example.
The Secret Of Nimph was excellent.
The first Land before Time was nice. Now its over KILL.
If Im not mistaken. Bluth used to be a disney animator and now he is lacking on the quality of his films. It's sad. Everyone wants to make a quick million. Instead of taking their time and putting out quality. That be considered a master piece and admired by future generations. ahh yes , the good ol' days of cartoons.
musicradio77 08-14-2003, 09:42 PM The 60's version is better than the MTV ones.
I am Him 08-17-2003, 02:43 AM I think this spiderman series is decent. I enjoy it.
On a side note, the animation is done by the same company that did Reboot, and Beast Wars.
They also did Warplanets/ShadowRaiders and Heavy Gear.
ConservativeBalla 08-18-2003, 02:45 PM That's it! I know I'd hate it!
ConservativeBalla 08-22-2003, 09:28 PM CLASSIC Spidey-lovers, you should get the DVD's released of the Green Goblin and the Daredevil; I bought 'em yesterday, they're GREAT. The great '90's episodes *sigh*.... Plus you get some bonus '60's episodes. Lol, the '60's ones're so cheesy!
W.J. Griffin 08-22-2003, 10:35 PM You can't beat that theme song, though..."Spider-Man, Spider-Man, does whatever a spider can..."
They just don't write 'em like that any more...*sigh*
ConservativeBalla 08-26-2003, 08:29 AM Lol, yeah.
ConservativeBalla 09-06-2003, 09:16 PM I finally caught a little of this, and it's better than I thought it'd be, but it's still horrible. Is it cel-shaded?
ConservativeBalla 09-06-2003, 09:29 PM Regarding the Spider-man DVD's out now (they're the early 1990's that were shown on Fox). These are/were the ones I LOVE! And I'm trying to collect them all. I've gotten "Spider-man Vs. Daredevil", and "The Return of the Green Goblin". Now, I went to " TVshowsonDVD.com ", and I looked, and it seems there are two more; "Ultimate Spider-Man Collection" and Ultimate Villain Showdown". When I read the links on these two, it has the same shows, and same cover. But, it says one was released in April of last year, and one's coming out sometime THIS month. Could someone fill me in or help me figure it out?
if you need spidey. I have spidey
60's spiderman complete
spiderman & his amazing friends complete
spiderman 90's complete
spiderman through the years
ConservativeBalla 09-07-2003, 10:43 AM Uh, no, thanks anyway; I wanna buy the DVD's and support the company making them.
