Do you like Eddie better when he's older or younger?

I'm not sure but to me Eddie is Eddie at either age. Funny,obnoxious and arrogant. I liked him all the way through.

Older definetly, he showed both sides of himself, Eddie the wise guy and Eddie the nice guy.

I liked him better when he was older too. I didn't like him too much when he was younger. He was always making fun of Wally and Beaver. I didn't understand why Wally would want him for a friend. When Eddie was older, Wally would stand up to him more and didn't believe everything he said.

I liked him all the way through, younger years and older years.

Eddie had funny points about his character both when he was an early teenager and an older teenager.

Truthfully, I preferred episodes when he was younger and he was involved in scenes. For awhile, June and Ward didn't totally realize that Eddie was just feeding them bull all the time. It took a couple of years for them to stop appearing to be snowed over by his compliments, but they would still rarely slip up because they liked the ego boost.

How about the scenes where Ward might say something like, "OOOOOHH, that EDDIE HASKELL!!!"
June would reply (after a snow job that made her feel good):
"Sometimes I think he is a very nice boy."

I loved in the earlier years when Eddie's voice would crack while going through puberty:
Wally's birthday:
Eddie: "You mean you haven't been peekin'?"
Wally: "Heck NO!"

Eddie: "Boy, is that really taking a chance!"
Wally: "How come Eddie?"

Eddie: "Parents are always givin' you stuff they call useful like shirts, ... or socks... or neckties!"
Wally: "Aaaww, my parents wouldn't give me something like that on my birthday."

Eddie: "Yeah? If your parents are as square as mine, they might even give you a suit!" (voice cracked on the word "suit")
Wally: "Aaaww, they wouldn't pull a dirty trick like that!" :lol:

I liked the older Eddie Haskell a little more, because of the masterful character development as the seasons went by. He was always 2-faced and insecure, but in the first 2 seasons he was more downright 'mean' to go along with those qualities, and by the later years he was just egotistical. But he always had a 'good side' usually hidden, which June once told Beaver was "the other Eddie." I think it is a 1st season ep where he pretends illness to make Wally feel alright about going on a date with a girl Eddie had claimed was his 'girlfriend,' when she didn't even know him. And it was always good when he unexpectedly did something to help out Beaver, like encouraging Wally to wear a sportcoat to a party instead of the suit that Beaver had accidentally ruined.

Eddie was a character within a character. This type of persona is always entertaining if done right, and in the case of Ken Osmond and LITB, is definitely was. 'Fonzie' on Happy Days is another such characterization. He has to maintain his 'supercool' image and he almost always does; but still there are times his other side-- sensitive, sentimental, decent, generous-- is allowed to be shown, especially when he is in Richie's hospital room and he sheds tears and does his version of a "prayer" for Richie to come out of his coma. Eddie would probably do somethjing similar if Wally (maybe even Beaver) were in a hospital in a coma.

I agree with tdr. Eddie was always funny, but the older Eddie is more of a well developed con artist, and a little funnier. He's more matter of fact in his corruption.

Sure, Eddie was always funny, but what makes this question both interesting and tough is that you should pick: Younger or Older.

To me the choice is incredibly easy - OLDER Eddie wins hands down. His character definitely did develop into more of a con man as the years went by. Many of you hit the nail on the head with the answers about Eddie being a bit more mean early on, and then moving into more of a con artist later on.

I actually believe the team of Eddie and Lumpy together, in the last two seasons, was a fantastic combination!

Good point,tdr! :nod: I couldn't agree with ya more! Eddie Haskell did like to tease and stuff,but he wasn't heartless and over all,he was a good guy. He did care and he had good morals. (except lying,...lol! :winkgrin ) Yeah,I,too,can see him saying a prayer and feeling horrible if something happened to Wally or Beaver or Lumpy and they had to go in the hospital.

As for whether I like the older or younger Eddie better,I like both,however,I enjoy the later seasons when Wally,Lumpy,Eddie,and even Beaver are really into girls. The earlier episodes are cute,but I really like the "dating episodes" where the guys get all twitterpated. :lol: One is cute in a little kid kinda way and the other is cute in a "teenage puppy love :eyes:" kinda way. And,call me a total sap,but I love to see people in love. So,since I like the later episodes better,I'll say I like the older Eddie better,too.

Young or older Eddie was a stinker-he just polished it up as he got older......Eddie Haskel is one of those characters you just love to hate and he's probably a real sweetheart in real life..I'll say one thing, he did one heck of a job playing that role..........:wave:

I like Eddie alot,he was such a jerk but then he could be nice.Im sure alot of us here have had freinds like Eddie when we were kids,i know i did.

I liked Eddie when he was a kid because I liked the earlier seasons as opposed to the rather pedestrian later seasons when the series lost some of the create juices that fueled the first two or three years.

I wish we had a professional analysis of the kid. He really needed some help. Altho his compliments to June ("Gee, Mrs. Cleaver, that's a lovely dress!") were fun, they were also unnatural, weird, and inappropriate coming from a 12 year old kid. They caused me to wonder if Eddie was a TV or closet drag queen.

I think Eddie hated his lowly status as the son of a garage owner and envied Wally, Beaver, and others as the offspring of college educated pencile sharpeners and paper shufflers like Ward and Fred. Eddie was a blue collar kid screwing around with white collar kids. He was insecure.

Ken Osmond appeared in the "Lassie" episode called "Cub Scout" about the time he made his first appearances in LITB. He played a 12 year old city kid visiting the country. Timmy was joining the cub scouts and Ken gave him the cocky kind of razzing he gave Beaver. When the scouts took a hike Ken sneaked along on their flank harassing them. At the end, he lit a campfire to cook his hot dog and came close to burning Calverton County to the ground. In the "Lassie" episode Ken's character Ralph was cut from the same cloth as LITB's Eddie but in "Lassie" Ken's character was much more dangerous than Eddie ever was in LITB.

As Eddie aged on LITB he mellowed and we could take his antisocial, weird behavior in stride. Eddie did some truly bizarre things: he quit school, he lived in a dingy apartment, and he slugged Wally over a girl in a public place. This moment I thought was truly bizarre; there was nothing in any other episode that would lead us to believe Eddie would do anything like slugging Wally. I thought this whole episode was bizarre anyways; it just wasn't "Beaver." In the end, it was obvious that there was something really "wrong" with Eddie, something skewed with his thinking and his behavior.
