I don't think so. There were times when the series was shot on location like in the episode where Larry and Beaver are accused of stealing a boat.

They used canned laughter, they didn't use live audiences at that time yet.

Canned laughter helped the TV audience feel that they were a part of something. In those days they didn't record live in front of a studio audience. So they had no way of getting the kind of togetherness of audience participation that they can get now with the live audience. Even now they have people come on stage, before a live showing begins, and prime the audience with jokes; get them warmed up to laugh; get them in the mood to participate. Once in awhile you'll see a show that tries to go on without live or canned laughter. It might work, but if so that might be because today's TV watchers are more attuned to the rythym of sitcoms. Maybe not but, anyway, I don't blame or fault the LITB producers for using canned laughter.

Actually I Love Lucy used a live audience but I don't know if even that show was the first. It wasn't until the 1970s when recording a show in front of a live studio audience became more common in sitcoms.

Now that I see this thread that reminds me of something I have noticed on the show. When they have the laugh tracks put in there I have noticed in at least 2 episodes when Beaver or Wally have done something I swear I hear this person in the laugh track quietyly say "uh oh!" during the laughter. I can't remember exactly which episodes they were put I'm pretty sure I heard that. It's kind of funny that they would have more than laughter in there. Did anyone else notice that or I'm I going nuts? :)

I'm not sure if you're thinking of what I'm thinking of or if it is something different. It's not quite an "uh oh" I notice sometimes, but it's kind of a half laugh/half uh oh. It sounds like a lady and it is the same sound that can be heard on ILL too! It's kind of like a "uhoohoohooh." LOL.
