Does anyone own a dvd recorder? If so- what is the best format dvd recorder to buy? I heard there are like 5 different recording methods for dvd recorders and it'll only really be known which is most popular by the end of the year. Can you add menus or edit dvd's that you record yourself? That'd be cool to make your own menus for a sitcom or something. Can you tape something that you have on VHS from your VCR to your dvd-recorder? I might buy one near the end of the year but I'm still trynna find out about them.
Also- does anyone have Tivo? In the UK we have Tivo and Sky Plus- with Sky Plus being more popular for some good reasons. Though I don't think it has the 'for life' deal tivo offers, which isn't for life but like 5 years (so I heard)- but what the hell.

I have a Philips DVD recorder. It records in DVD+R and DVD+RW. I've heard this is the most versitle format and will play on most regular DVD players. It plays on my other and on my computer.
It creates a menu for you, which you can later title. You can only edit DVD+RW. DVD+R is a one-time record and always records at the end of the disc.
I convert VHS things to DVD all the time. It's the main reason I bought the machine. The Philips is a very easy machine to use.

So- the combined dvd+r and dvd+rw seems to be best? I'm going to wait a while to buy a recorder- as we saw with dvd players- the prices plummet quickly anyway- and I don't have the £500 to buy one at the minute. Is it easy to set you dvd recorder to record? And- can you also PLAY dvd's on the dvd recorder? Is it possible at all to make detailed menues or does it require some kind of programme (I'm not real fussy- i just wanna convert the shows, even onto vcd but preferably dvd).
Thanx 2 u

1) I've heard that DVD+R/DVD+RW is the best.
2) I've never set mine to record. I haven't even set the clock! But I have recorded while sitting and watching the program.
3) Yes, it'll play DVDs, CDs...just like a regular DVD player.
4) The menus are already in the recorder. You can just name the show.
