Would Cheers have lasted if Coach never died, and Woody never came to Boston??

I wonder what NBC would do with the show if Nicholas Calosanto never died??

As much as I love Coach, I don't think the series would last more than 4 or 5 years with him. I think that Woody was a big part in making Cheers #1.

I love woody and coach the same, I don't know. Maybe....maybe if coach hadn't died Shelley would have never left...you just don't know the options or conditions that possibility could bring..it's too hard to tell

You can't say really. Just cause you think Woody is better means nothing. Cause if Coach hadn't died, Woody Harrelson wouldn't have been introduced. You wouldn't even know about the character Woody Boyd, there would just be Coach. I think it's impossible to say.

I actually like Coach more than Woody, but DianeChambers87 is right, Shelley might have never left if Coach hadn't died, Frasier might have left after only a few appearances, its too complicated to tell.

Cheers would have lasted if Coach never died. The relationship of Sam and Diane is what made Cheers a hit. It's not like Coach was the weakest link or anything. He was Sam's closest friend. Like a father figure or something. Now if no one had replaced Coach and they just had an extra in his place after he died, then Cheers probably wouldn't have been around as long as it had.

Woody didn't make Cheers a hit, it was an ensemble cast.

I think it still would've been a hit. Coach was very funny. It would still be a great show I think.

Now what do you think?!

I think its impossible to tell, because if Nick were there, Shelley probably would've stayed too. And its too hard to tell how long the show would last if Shelley hadnt left.

the show would have been 99% different if Coach hadnt died. im not sure if theyd b better or worse, u decide:

Path 1: Season 3 - Coach never died. season 4 went on w/ basically the same storyline, but NOTHING with Woody (obviously). coach would still be a main character. frasier could be gone after a few eps. no lilith, obviously, cuz frasier would b gone by the time she wouldve showed up (if they knew they were getting rid of him, they wouldnt start a new storyline about him trying to find love again). diane wouldnt have left. the show may have lasted 8/9 seasons (at most) in its season 1/2/3 form. the reason? Rebecca and all the new characters/elements DID open up new storyline possibilities, and they milked it for alot of them (near the end). who knows how it couldve ended up w/o rebecca/frasier/robin colcord/etc/etc

Path 2: Season 3 - Coach died, and woody was introduced as he was, but Diane never left. therefore, in I Do, Adieu, the original ending stayed put (S and D got married). after that, i think they would go to, about, a season 10 at most. i do think that they would have to introduce many new elements/characters (like they did) to keep it going that long, however. then again, married life for those 2 could be interesting also...lol

Path 3: Coach didn't die, but Diane still left. therefore...would it be a ensemble w/ rebecca and coach?? that would b VERY interesting...not too many ppl think about that one, i dont think

BTW...has anyone ever noticed that the initials for "Sam and Diane" are SAD??

Ya know, it seems like a lot of you guys are saying that Cheers wouldn't have lasted all 11 years if Diane had stayed. Now, I agree with that, but I believe in quality over quantity.

I'm a fan of ONLY the Diane Years, so, to me, it doesn't matter if Cheers would've lasted 100 years with Rebecca! I'd rather have a solid 7 or 8 with Diane than a shaky 11 with Rebecca.
