View Full Version : What browser do you use?
pandora_spocks 07-07-2003, 10:23 PM Out of curiosity, I was wondering what browser's everyone used to surf the net.
I usually use Internet Explorer, but I just downloaded something called Opera. It's pretty cool and rather fast. The only thing I don't like is their ad to make you buy their product at the top and the occasional pop-up ads. I think I'm gonna stick with IE though unless I can find a crack or something to get rid of Opera's ads.

Yeah, Netscape sucks.
Although, I have noticed that a lot of the cool features/effects I use on my website don't show up in Opera either so that kind of sucks. Although, the pages do load a lot quicker!

Truth 07-08-2003, 01:28 AM I use aol's which is just IE's.... there were rumours that AOL's was going to turn to Netscape since AOL owns netscape but thats pretty much not going to happen since they and Microsoft reached a settlement to let AOL use IE for another 7 years... I have not used Opera (Perhaps I will try it)... Though Their was a version of it released that turned msn.com into like another language or something, I think it was called opera bork or somethin lol...
Truth 07-08-2003, 01:33 AM Wow Opera actully looks pretty cool. I just read reviews of it at download.com (Even though Im mad at download.com for certain things,) I think ill install it soon, thanks Pandora...
Truth 07-08-2003, 01:34 AM "As fast as ever, Opera is still embarrassing the big browsers by loading most Web pages in a fraction of the time."
That is why I am going to try it... lol
(Yep Im on dialup)

BrandonS 07-08-2003, 09:54 AM At work I have to use IE, but when I have a choice, like at home, I use Netscape. My decision has nothing to do with the browsers, I just don't like the way Microsoft does business. As a programmer, it is perhaps more apparent to me than it might be to others. They'll do things like take a programming language that's an international standard, e.g. C++ or Java, and trick people into using an almost identical language they invent that only works on Windows. Having programming languages that are the same on every platform is important and has helped the development of computers, but they don't care. They signed an agreement with Sun Microsystems to include Java in their products, and then immediately violated the license agreement by including Windows only commands in the version they distributed. When Sun successfully sued them for license violation, they invented the lookalike language J sharp, and now are doing everything they can to destroy Java. Javascript, which sounds like Java but is actually almost unrelated, is an international standard, so what does Miscrosoft do? They create a lookalike language, JScript, with Windows specific commands, and then proceed to act like Javascript doesn't exist. They do business like the mafia and I don't want to have anything to do with them, although I often have to since they have so many monopolies and near monopolies.
Babes_Cat 07-08-2003, 10:01 AM Internet Explorer.

I'm not really interested in how they do business. I'm more interested in how my website looks in the browsers. With all the effects I use it looks better in IE and not Netscape. My dad uses Netscape and it's slow as hell. Personally, I think IE is the best because you can see a lot more that you can't see with the Netscape browser.

My thoughts exactly! You can do just about everything in IE, you just can't do the <blink> tag...You can only do that in Netscape. But that's OK, I haven't used it in four years anyway.
Blair85 07-08-2003, 02:07 PM I use a webtv classic browser that's older then Moses.

Sure, if my sole focus were on what's good for me personally, I might feel the same way.

Really? I haven't used the <blink> tag in years. When things scroll or blink like that it makes me dizzy. Trying to read those marquees are what really does it.

I think MYIE2 should have stayed an IE browser! (Its the BEST/Most beautiful IE wrapper I have ever found)
