Do you really think that Miss Jane had as big of a crush on Jethro as she let on? Or do you think she secretly had dollar signs in her eyes and thought that if she hooked up with Jethro, she would be rich.

View Full Version : Miss Jane and Jethro hawaii five-o 07-07-2003, 08:14 PM Do you really think that Miss Jane had as big of a crush on Jethro as she let on? What Miss Jane felt for Jethro was real...and in the beginning, before he went Hollywood, Jethro felt the same way. (Indeed, if you've seen the video made around the time of the release of the Beverly Hillbillies movie, Jethro, who followed in Granny's footsteps as a doctor, actually said that Jane Hathaway was the big love of his life that got away!!)   bklyngrl22 09-23-2003, 11:18 PM Hmmm...I wonder. If her feelings were so real for him, then why did they separate. In the movie, you can see that they were REAL good together. In fact, they were sort-of my fave couple. I've rarely seen the series, but have viewed the movie 12 times in the last 10 years of it's release. So, I'm going by what I saw there. Anyone see the movie and have a view to share. Please reply. Thanks, Rachael W.J. Griffin 10-05-2003, 02:23 PM Originally posted by bklyngrl22 Hmmm...I wonder. If her feelings were so real for him, then why did they separate. Thanks, Rachael You should really check out the series, particularly those from the first two seasons...at first Jethro did more or less reciprocate Miss Jane's affections, but, his being a shy country boy, and Miss Jane a sophisticaterd city woman, one could presume that Jethro probably felt intimidated by her intelligence, and, later on, after he went "Hollywood", he became shallow...but those are just my perceptions of the events, and as I am no psychologist, I can only surmise as to why there was no real relationship between these two. The movie does a good job in reflecting this initial mutual attraction, and was probably able to expound upon it where the tv writers were probably forbidden to go in the early 60s. But to get the real feel for the events, one has to watch the original series. hawaii five-o 10-05-2003, 03:06 PM I wonder how things would have gone between them if Miss Jane had been more attractive. W.J. Griffin 10-06-2003, 09:07 PM Hmmm...I think a more"attractive" actress would've muted the necessary pathos needed for this type of situation...the idea was to put the audience in Jane Hathaway's shoes in reference to an unrequited love scenario....it wouldn't have been beliveable if Miss Jane was a "hottie"... Bianca 10-08-2003, 02:21 AM Yeah, I reckon it's the real thing.... But she was tangled in a clothes line and jethro helped her out. There she said "Jethro, you're like a magnificent skyscrapper, with an uncompleted penthouse" Hehehe. his reply was "gee thanks" shel 7296 11-03-2003, 04:03 PM Yep It was the real think:) BlueEyes1767 12-07-2003, 09:53 AM Originally posted by W.J. Yes, Jethro had an eye for the pretty girls. He was Miss Jane's opposite in many ways, as she was well-educated and cultured while he only completed the sixth grade. She was light-years away from him in the intellectual department. But I think Jane was attracted to Jethro's simple, unpolished character,,, plus he wasn't bad-looking either! liane49 03-23-2013, 12:54 PM Nah. Back then a women didn't ask a man out, but today she could, although I perfer the man to ask. Frump 03-23-2013, 10:42 PM It's funny no one calls it creepy for Miss Jane to like Jethro. In the show I thought Jethro was supposed to be a teenager, whole Miss Jane was approaching 40ish I assume. If it were a 40ish year old man after Elly, everyone would be calling him a pervert and creepy. It's funny ppl call 40ish year old men that even if they are persuing a girl in her 20s who IS of age. biffbronson 04-20-2013, 11:12 PM I wonder why he never asked her out. They were out on a date of sorts in one of the color episodes; remember Jethro saying "let's get at them hamburgers!" when a romantic moment was about to transpire? liane49 01-08-2014, 01:32 PM They were out on a date of sorts in one of the color episodes; remember Jethro saying "let's get at them hamburgers!" when a romantic moment was about to transpire? I guess jethro never asked her out because He did only go for the prettier girls and I can'e believe even though Jethro was good looking that Jane would fall for somebody that dumb. Prince Michael 08-08-2016, 09:47 PM I always thought Jethro only had eyes for all the fun activities and the pretty girls in Beverly Hills, so Miss Jane never had much of a chance . HarryWild 08-09-2016, 03:26 AM I guess jethro never asked her out because He did only go for the prettier girls and I can'e believe even though Jethro was good looking that Jane would fall for somebody that dumb. In real life, ladies aka gold diggers go for the dumb, rich guys all the time! Look at all the pro athletes in the NBA and NFL and MLB as an example. You can even watch it on Millionaire Matchmaker and the Bachelor and similar shows. Getting back to Jethro, Jane like him because he was fun loving and young and good looking and also rich in that order. So Jane is not a gold digger at all! QTMcWhiskers 06-01-2018, 05:59 PM I wonder why he never asked her out. Back then a women didn't ask a man out, but today she could, although I perfer the man to ask. No worries, a lot of women don't ask men out today either. Despite events such as the Sadie Hawkins Dance (first used in 1937, so in 1964 or 2018, it makes little difference.) And I’m at a loss. What movie did Jethro become a doctor? (Sorry) Either way, I am definitely curious to see both of these things if still available. 1960'sTVfan 02-13-2024, 06:21 PM I have the DVD's of seasons 1-5 and it's great that CBS DVD included the sponsor openings and closings for the black and white seasons, seasons 1-3. I think it's in the 4th episode of the series when the Clampetts encounter a telephone for the first time and discover how a telephone works. I get a laugh from that scene, it's very funny. forn 02-16-2024, 05:22 PM In the earlier episodes, Jethro liked Miss Hathaway back. I wonder if originally, there were plans to get them together at some point? It always disappointed me that they always just dropped the idea that Jethro was fond of her, too. I guess the problem was that Jethro got a look at some of the other secretaries at the bank, I have to admit they were much better looking than poor Miss Jane. If Mr. Drysdale did the hiring, he must have had an eye for attractive women. But they never really explained Jethro's sudden lack of interest, they just acted like it never happened. Continuity is something that writers of these TV shows don't always pay close attention to. There are continuity errors in Leave It To Beaver with regards to the school grades the two boys attended. In the 1st season, Wally is said to be an 8th grader which would have made him a college freshman in the 6th and final season, but instead he's a 12th grader/high school senior in the 6th season. Beaver is said to be a 2nd grader in the 1st season which would have made him a 7th grader in the 6th and final season, but instead he's an 8th grader in season 6. |
