HOLLYWOOD, Calif., July 8 -- It is the ultimate guy movie
that spawned a million toga parties and completely re-invented the comedy genre. "Animal House" is the comedy spoof of 1960's college life that follows the hilarious adventures of the Delta fraternity. The film launched the careers of major talent including Kevin Bacon, Tom Hulce, Tim Matheson, Peter Reigert and Karen Allen, and catapulted then unknown director John Landis,
rookie writer Harold Ramis and producer Ivan Reitman into storied filmmaking careers. Now, the First Network For Men takes an in-depth look at this classic film with GO INSIDE: ANIMAL HOUSE. This one-hour original special produced by Universal Studios premieres on TNN Sunday, August 24 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT).
GO INSIDE: ANIMAL HOUSE explores the behind-the-scenes stories of the infamous comic blockbuster. Discover how the idea for the movie was developed -- based on the actual experiences of a National Lampoon columnist. Follow the trials, tribulations and scandals that happened during production -- such as the physical clashes between cast members and University of Oregon (where the film was shot) fraternity members and the off-set rivalry between the "Delta" and "Omega" actors. Witness the audience reaction to the movie's premiere (including the initial screening at a local fraternity convention) and follow the continuing legacy of the film, from the institutionalizing of the toga party and the hit song "Shout" in pop culture, to the movies it spawned ("Porky's," "Fast Times At Ridgemont High," "American Pie") and the ensuing careers, lives and deaths of the film's stars.
These stories are told through a mix of memorable clips from the film as well as new interviews with key talent including Tim Matheson, Kevin Bacon, Peter Reigert, Karen Allen, Stephen Furst, Judy Jacklin Pisano (John Belushi's wife, who has an un-credited role in the film), James Widdoes and Bruce McGill, and the film's executives John Landis, Harold Ramis, Ivan Reitman
Matty Simmons and Chris Miller.
With unprecedented access to Universal Studio's archives, GO INSIDE: ANIMAL HOUSE features never-before-seen footage/photos of John Belushi on the set, the set up of the famous "food fight" scene, and outtakes and filmed sequences that never made it to the final cut.
TNN, the First Network for Men, is the only television network officially sanctioned by Universal Studios to present a 25th anniversary tribute to Animal House. On Wednesday, August 27 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) the network will present a special encore of GO INSIDE: ANIMAL HOUSE in direct conjunction with Universal Studios Home Video national release of National Lampoon's Animal House Double Secret Probation Edition DVD. Information and specific details about the special DVD release is available at http://www.universalstudios.com.
GO INSIDE: ANIMAL HOUSE is the first in a series of three original specials for the network produced by Universal Studios that take a new and in-depth look at Blockbuster movies for guys. The two additional installments of GO INSIDE will feature Scarface and The Blues Brothers.
Gary Shenk of Corbis, the world's largest media archive, serves as executive producer of GO INSIDE: ANIMAL HOUSE. Paul Nihipali served as the special's producer.
TNN, the first network for men, is available in 86 million homes and is a division of MTV Networks.
