View Full Version : I shaved off my beard today...

...per my parents request for a family portrait we had taken today. "Just this once," they asked, "Could you get rid of it? It will grow back!"

So I drove back to my house and shaved it off, after having it for about a year. You know what? I have to concede, they were right. I look better without it. I think I'll keep the clean-shaven look for awhile.

The only drawback is that I look sixteen now...

Anyway, discuss fashion advice you reluctantly took, only to be pleasantly surprised by you taste.

Last January I spontaneously shaved off my goatee and mutton chops. I don't know why. Several teachers at my school said I looked a lot different without it and one sophomore said that I looked much better. I quickly grew them back and I still wear them today.

LOL you got to it before me!!

My dad wanted me to grow my hair out, but my mom wanted me to chop it all off. I followed my mom's advice, then stopped doing that. It looked awful, so now I listen to my dad.

Were you like me, and thought you looked better with your beard? I've seen a picture of you with no facial hair; I bet the beard made you look quite distinguished.

I'm female, so I obviously never had a beard to shave! My dad has had a beard and mustache ever since I have been born (almost 20 years) or maybe longer and he's never shaved it off!! I always ask him if he ever would and he never does. Well, I'm used to it, but I wish I could see him without it. He does look a little young for his age (he's 51, but looks between 40 and 45), but i'm sure he would look even younger without the beard!

I always love when you shave your beard or cut your hair, your friends and family tell you how wonderful you look now.

Was I a hideous freak before? And if so, why didn't anyone sit me down and tell me how crappy I looked before the trip to the barber?

I have been letting my hair grow out for a few months now. I can see the look on my Mother's face now...

I want to let my hair grow out. My mom think I'll look like a hoodlum! I told her I don't care what others think. She says that she does. I love that women but sometimes she can drive me nuts!

Oh Yeah! The beard was really working for me. I was actually planning to go for the Brad Pitt/Mountain Man look, but my parents didnt like that idea too much.

It just won't stop. Today, I decided to crop my formerly shoulder-length hair. Now it's 1/2 an inch long.

Nobody's going to recognize me at work tomorrow.

I cut about 3 inches off of my hair about 3 months ago. I hate it. I just wish it would grow back! It's already grown about halfway back, but it's so many different lengths. I won't be cutting it off any time soon.

My preference would be the natural look.
BTW, since the second summer session classes start on Wednesday, I'll go cut my hair tomorrow and trim my beard. :D

I had REALLY long hair (see the little banner below the blend in my siggy), it went down about 3 inches past my shoulders. Last month, I was getting so sick of it always making the back of my neck hot, so I went in and told my hairdresser to just cut my hair to chin-length. I feel SO much better now. I think I actually prefer short hair...I don't know when I'll do that, but I'll do it soon. I've had short hair before and I love the way I look with short hair. When I was a freshman in HS, I was going through a bad time in my family life. I had long hair too, so in January 2000, I suddenly decided to cut EVERYTHING off. I had a neighbor who wasn't a hairdresser, but was very talented at it, so she cut off my long hair for me. After she got through with me, I only had about an inch or two of hair left and felt SO much better. The next day, I went to school, and NOBODY recognized me! :D

Long red hair. Pink was embarrassing. It didn't last very long at all!
Yeah, girl, I'm breaking new ground here! Laugh now! In 10 years all the boys will be living large, like me! :happyface

That is, if I can win the battle of wills with my mom.

Now that you mention it, dyeing my hair was a fashion whim. I didn't think I would look good but I gave it a shot. Once I tryed it, I never looked back!
