It is suppose to seem in "I Love Lucy" Ethel was older than Lucy. The truth is she was younger. She was suppose to eat more to look older.

To be honest I never thought about Ethel's age. It was obvious that Fred was a lot older than the others, but I really didn't think about it with Ethel at all. She didn't act old, and her relationship with Lucy wasn't like Fred's was with Ricky (the way Fred called Ricky 'my boy' every so often, and Ricky asked his advice sometimes). I pretty much just think of Ethel as being Lucy's age I think.

I just finished reading 'the Lucy book' a few weeks ago and it stated that Vivian Vance actually WAS older than Lucy, but only two years. She was born in 1909?

I agree w/ you Mickey. I never thought of Ethel as a lot older than Lucy. Where Fred was more of a father figure for Ricky.

I kind of felt sorry for her because her hair never looked as good as Lucy's and her clothes were always kindof tacky. I didn't think of her as much older (if any) either.

They tried to pass Ethel off as a frumpy landlady. Lucy used to tell Ethel to put on more weight. this isn't a quote but, Lucy made the remark to the make up people that she was the star why did Viv look so good. Something to that effect anyway.

I dont think she is old..... but some thing interesting (well this is from a guys point of view) In the episode dont know the name but when Lucy and Ethel sing that song Friendship. When they are showing Fred and Ricky what they have come up with Ethel is wearing close I see people walking around wearing the same thing and its 2003!!!!!!

Well they do say that all fashions come around again eventually! (Hopefully that doesn't include whalebone corsets and frilly lace bonnets...)
